RHP Nate Jones experienced a setback and has halted his throwing program in his attempted return from a right elbow injury. The 31-year-old has been on the disabled list since May 4.

Jones started the inning in relief of LHP Carlos Rodon and got the first two outs. He was injured on the second out when SS Carlos Correa hit a hard ground ball back to the mound. The ball ricocheted off the inside of Jones' left foot before he picked it up and threw Correa out at first. Jones is 2-0 with a 2.20 ERA in 17 appearances this season.

He will occupy a late-inning, role, but it will take an David Robertson injury for him to earn any saves.

Jones struck out one in two-thirds of an inning Wednesday against the Angels.

Jones just came off the disabled list, but he has been immediately thrown into high-pressure situations. On Wednesday, he was called upon to pitch to Mike Trout and Albert Pujols while the White Sox clutched a one-run lead. Two of Jones' seven pitches touched 99 mph, so it looks like he has not lost much velocity despite not pitching for much of the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

Jones (elbow) was activated from the 60-day disabled list Wednesday.

Jones, who underwent Tommy John surgery at the end of July last season, will finally make his first big league appearance of the 2015 campaign. His procedure doesn't seem to have set him back much, as he allowed just one run over 6.1 innings of work at Triple-A Charlotte. Jones challenged for the closer role in 2014 before being sidelined, but with David Robertson now in that role, the best that the 29-year-old can likely hope for is a setup role.

Once viewed as the future closer of the White Sox heading into last spring, Jones would eventually require surgery on his back and then a Tommy John procedure in July to wipe out his season. It may take a while for the hard-throwing Jones to harness his velocity, but he should make a cameo in the White Sox bullpen before the season ends.
