Fri Apr 22 2011 | 23:58 | Brett Wallace picks up three hits |
Brett Wallace went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Friday's loss to the Brewers. |
He has just one home run so far, but Wallace is now batting .313 with seven RBI, 12 runs scored and eight walks. With some scouts now starting to question his ability at the plate in addition to his shoddy defense, it's good to see him get off to a good start. |

Fri Apr 8 2011 | 21:54 | Brett Wallace hits first homer |
Brett Wallace went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run in Friday's loss to the Marlins. |
He scored two of the Astros' three runs. Wallace's homer came in the ninth inning off closer Leo Nunez to cut the deficit to one, but Jason Bourgeois was thrown out trying to steal on a pitchout to end the game. The first baseman is batting .240 on the year but has an RBI in four of the last five games. |

Sat Apr 2 2011 | 11:11 | Brett Wallace won't stay in No. 7 spot |
Astros manager Brad Mills said the 5-7 spots in his lineup will be interchangeable. |
Bill Hall hit fifth, Chris Johnson sixth and Brett Wallace seventh on Opening Day, but it sounds like they'll be moved around based on matchups. "Yesterday we talked to each Billy Hall, Mr. Wallace and CJ about their spots in the lineup, and they're going to be pretty much interchangeable," Mills said. "Right now those three spots might change on a daily basis depending on what we have." Wallace was the only one of the three to get a hit Friday, and we'd like to see him given a shot to move up in the order. Michael Bourn, Angel Sanchez, Hunter Pence and Carlos Lee will stay in the first four spots in the order, at least until Clint Barmes returns. |

Tue Mar 15 2011 | 17:08 | Wallace drives in seven runs against Orioles |
Brett Wallace had one of the games of the spring against the Orioles on Tuesday, going 4-for-5 with a grand slam, two doubles and seven RBI. |
Forty at-bats into his spring, Wallace is now hitting .350 to go along with seven extra-base hits and 12 RBI. He's likely to be inconsistent this season, and with Carlos Lee set to see some time at first base, his playing time could be inconsistent, as well, but Wallace is a must draft for NL-only league players, and an intriguing option in deeper mixed leagues. |

Fri Mar 11 2011 | 21:22 | Wallace has three hits in win over Nats |
Brett Wallace went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored in a 7-6 win over the Nationals on Friday. |
Just what the doctor ordered. Wallace has slumped a bit lately, so he'll need to show some consistency at the plate in order to start the season at the major league level. Remember, Carlos Lee could also play first base, so Wallace isn't necessarily a lock to make the team. |

Mon Dec 6 2010 | 21:34 | Astros hope Wallace wins 1B job |
According to MLB.com's Alyson Footer, the Astros are hoping Brett Wallace "flat-out wins" the first base job in spring training but "realize Carlos Lee may end up over there for much of the season." |
ESPN's Jerry Crasnick previously reported that the Astros are expected to go into the season with Lee as their first baseman, and that may still end up being the case, but Wallace will be given a legitimate shot to take the job with a strong spring. If Lee ends up at first, Wallace will start at Triple-A and the 'Stros will pursue a left-handed complement to Jason Michaels for left field. |

Sat Nov 6 2010 | 09:51 | Astros could go after a left fielder |
It's possible the Astros could go after a left fielder this offseason and move Carlos Lee to first base. |
That would leave youngster Brett Wallace without an everyday job. GM Ed Wade said he's "not presiding over a youth movement," so despite having high expectations for Wallace, if they think he's not ready they could put him in a backup role or start him at Triple-A. Wallace hit just .222/.296/.319 with two homers for the Astros this season while striking out 50 times in 144 at-bats. |

Wed Sep 8 2010 | 00:40 | Wallace hits first ML home run |
Brett Wallace hit his first major league home run in a win over the Cubs on Tuesday night. |
It's nice to finally get that monkey off your back. Still, with a .204 batting average to go along with a scary 31/5 K/BB ratio through his first 93 at-bats in the majors, he doesn't make for a strong fantasy option at the moment, even in NL-only leagues. There's a lot of potential here long-term, but the 24-year-old has a lot to prove yet. |
Wed Aug 25 2010 | 10:27 | Struggling Wallace benched Tuesday |
A slumping Brett Wallace did not start Tuesday's game. |
Wallace eventually entered the game, singling and scoring a run in two at-bats. Before Tuesday, he had been in a 3-for-36 tailspin, this after hitting .333 in his fist 10 games with the 'Stros. Wallace will be back in the starting lineup Wednesday. |

Sat Jul 31 2010 | 13:43 | Wallace recalled, will start Saturday |
Astros recalled 1B Brett Wallace from Triple-A Round Rock. |
Wallace, who was acquired from the Blue Jays Thursday, will be thrown right into the fire, as he's in Saturday's starting lineup. He's batted .301 with 18 homers and 61 RBI in his hitter-friendly home park in Las Vegas this season. Wallace stands a chance at generating a good amount of value in NL-only leagues right away. |
Thu Jul 29 2010 | 17:16 | Astros get future first baseman in Wallace |
Astros acquired 1B Brett Wallace from the Blue Jays for OF Anthony Gose. |
Yet another landing spot for Wallace. He's been involved in deals for for Matt Holliday, Roy Halladay and Roy Oswalt in the past year-plus and now he'll take his talents to Houston. The 23-year-old is generally regarded as a hitting machine and will eventually take over at first base for the aging Lance Berkman. Not a bad get for the 'Stros, who lost big in the Oswalt deal. |
Sat Jul 3 2010 | 14:50 | Wallace dealing with wrist injury |
Brett Wallace has been absent from Triple-A Las Vegas' lineup for nearly a week due to a sore right wrist. |
The injury is considered minor, so expect Wallace to be back out on the field sooner rather than later. He is off to a nice start this season, hitting .301 with 14 bombs in 306 at-bats (though it must be noted that Las Vegas is a hitter's paradise). The Lyle Overbay era has to end at some point, and when it does Wallace could make for an interesting mid/late season pickup. |

Thu Apr 15 2010 | 13:50 | Jays prospect Wallace hits third homer |
Brett Wallace went 3-for-4 and hit his third homer for Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday. |
He's getting a chance to play in a terrific environment for offense -- all seven of his games so far have been at home -- but it's still nice to see Wallace showing a lot of power early on. He finished with 20 homers in 532 at-bats between Double- and Triple-A last year. |
