Sun Jan 5 201416:28Shane Battier out vs. TOR, Lewis will start
Shane Battier (quad) will not play against the Raptors on Sunday.
This will be his second consecutive game out of the lineup. Battier's minutes are down to just 20 per game on the year, so he's not worth owning in most leagues. Rashard Lewis will get the start against the surprisingly hot Raptors and is coming off an 18-point game on Saturday, so it's not too wild of an idea to stream him in deep leagues.

Sat Jan 4 201418:12Shane Battier (quad) ruled out on Saturday
Shane Battier (sore quad) has been ruled out for Saturday's game vs. the Magic.
His absence opens up more opportunities for Rashard Lewis and Michael Beasley, but not enough to alter fantasy lineups. Consider Battier questionable to return for Sunday's matchup with the surging Raptors.

Sat Jan 4 201412:09Shane Battier (quad) uncertain to play Sat.
Shane Battier has a sore quad and his status for Saturday's game is uncertain.
Battier didn't go through shootaround and the injury is worth keeping an eye on if you're relying on him in a very deep league. And with Dwyane Wade (rest, back, knee) also questionable to play vs. Orlando, the stage may be set for a big game from Michael Beasley.

Thu Dec 5 201312:34Shane Battier to start against Bulls Thursday
Shane Battier will draw the start at power forward when the Heat face the Bulls on Thursday.
While tempting to use in deeper leagues because of the 21-plus minutes per game he's been playing this season, Battier hasn't scored more than eight points since the calendar read October. The Duke alum is a case of being a better option in real-life than in fantasy and doesn't deserve to be in fantasy owners' starting lineups unless one of Miami's stars misses an extended period of time.

Sat Nov 30 201301:04Battier (illness) plays on Friday vs. TOR
Shane Battier (illness) played on Friday against the Raptors, scoring two points with two rebounds in 17 minutes.
Battier is averaging 0.9 threes, 0.6 steals and 0.6 blocks per game and that's about it. Outside of very deep formats, that's just not cutting it.

Fri Nov 29 201319:17Shane Battier is starting for Miami
Shane Battier started against the Raptors on Friday.
He missed Wednesday's game due to an illness and should be back into his usual role. In his nine starts this year, Battier scored just 4.9 points in 22.9 minutes per game. He'll be tough to use in fantasy leagues while the Heat are suiting up their stars.

Shane Battier (illness) is a game-time decision to face the Raptors on Friday.
He missed Wednesday's game with an illness and participated in shootaround this morning. Battier is playing just 21 minutes per game on the season and will be tough to use in most fantasy leagues while Dwyane Wade is active.

Shane Battier will not play on Wednesday, according to Udonis Haslem.
We'll update Battier's status when the reason for his absence is revealed. In the meantime, just make sure he's not in any active lineups. Haslem is likely to start in his absence.

Tue Nov 5 201322:27Shane Battier efficient, quiet in start
Shane Battier hit 3-of-4 shots to score eight points in 20 minutes of Tuesday's start in place of Chris Bosh (personal), but ended up posting a pretty efficient line.
He added two rebounds, two assists, a steal, a block and two 3-pointers to round out a pretty solid night. He'll go back to the bench once Bosh is back after the birth of his child, so continue to ignore him except in the deepest of leagues (20-30 teams).

Tue Nov 5 201318:22Battier to start in place of Chris Bosh
Shane Battier will start in place of Chris Bosh (personal) on Tuesday.
Battier, who is averaging 20 minutes per game this season, isn't likely to do enough to help fantasy owners outside of his 3-point shooting. In 20 starts last year he posted 7.9 points, 2.4 triples, 2.3 rebounds, 0.7 steals and 0.9 blocks. Bosh will likely be back in the lineup on Thursday, so plan accordingly.

Sat Nov 2 201301:24Battier goes hitless on Friday vs. BKY
Shane Battier did not score and took just two field goal attempts in Friday's loss to the Nets.
This is the life of a low-minute reserve and one of the reasons he's best suited for deep 8- and 9-cat formats.

Wed Oct 30 201300:09Shane Battier scores 14 points off the bench
Shane Battier scored 14 points off the bench on Tuesday, making four 3-pointers with two boards and one assist in 22 minutes vs. the Bulls.
There are few players that get better more wide-open looks for 3-pointers than Battier and he led the league in triples from the corner last year. If you're in a deep league and need to bolster your production from beyond the arc, there are worse guys out there than 35-year-old forward.

Wed Oct 23 201323:55Shane Battier doesn't score in 24 minutes
Shane Battier didn't score in 24 minutes against the Pelicans on Wednesday, while adding five boards and three assists.
He doesn't make a lot of headlines and his contributions as a teammate are often unheralded. Although, NBA rookie Luigi Datome of the Pistons said he wants to play a Battier-like role for his team, so Battier certainly does get credit inside NBA circles. No player made more corner 3-pointers than Battier last season, but he's not worth drafting in most formats.

Fri Jun 21 201300:38Shane Battier hits six triples in Game 7 win
Shane Battier was hot in Game 7's win on Thursday, making 6-of-8 from beyond the arc for his 18 points with four boards, one assist and one steal in 29 minutes.
He was a deadly weapon for the Heat all year long and shot a sterling 43.0 percent from downtown during the regular year. In fact, no player made more threes in the corner than Battier this year thanks largely to the attacking style of LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. He's under contract next year and should have a similar role.

Sat Jun 8 201320:48Shane Battier may retire after 2013-14 season
Shane Battier said that he may retire after the 2013-14 season, when his contract with the Heat expires.
"I think I have one more year," said Battier. "My contract is up next year, and I'll reassess where I am, but we'll see ... at that point I'll be 36 and it may be time to do something else." He has been instrumental to Miami's success all season, averaging 25 minutes per game, though his shot has abandoned him in the playoffs (21.7 percent FGs).

Wed Jun 5 201316:27Battier compares benching to 'turd sandwich'
Shane Battier compared his Game 7 benching to eating a "turd sandwich."
"Sometimes you've got to eat a turd sandwich. Makes the ribeye taste better next time," said Battier, who found himself with a DNP-CD in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals. Fortunately for the veteran swingman, he should get more playing time against the Spurs because of the different matchups. The Spurs don't have nearly the size that the Pacers do, which should mean more Battier and less Chris Andersen in the Finals.

Wed Jun 5 201308:16Shane Battier should get shot in Finals
Shane Battier should get another opportunity to contribute in the Finals.
Because of the matchup with the Spurs, Battier is more likely to see the court after struggling against the Pacers. The Spurs don't have the same size that the Pacers do, meaning we could see more of Battier and less of Chris "Birdman" Andersen.

Sat May 25 201300:46Shane Battier has no response to Hibbert
Shane Battier said he had no response to Roy Hibbert's accusation of intentionally kneeing him in the groin.
"I have no response. You'll read about it in my book one day," Battier said. He was quiet in Game 2 and failed to score in 14 minutes, so Hibbert certainly has the last word at this point.

Thu Apr 25 201317:54Shane Battier (chin) will play on Thursday
Shane Battier (chin) will play in Game 3 vs. the Bucks on Thursday.
Battier took a hard shot in Game 2, which caused a gash that required stitches, but he's in no danger of being limited as Miami seeks a vice-grip lead on their first-round series.

Tue Apr 23 201323:33Shane Battier gets four stitches Tuesday
Shane Battier received four stitches for a chin laceration on Tuesday.
He got a face-full of Larry Sanders in a collision in the fourth quarter. Battier is fine and was joking around in the post-game press conference, so he should resume his usual role with the second unit.
