Wed Apr 20 201108:45Ordonez not ready to play every day
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Tuesday that Magglio Ordonez is not yet to the point where he can play every day.
Ordonez is working his way back from ankle problems that have kept him in and out of the lineup for the past three weeks. "When Magglio is right, he'll be in the lineup," said Leyland. "You can take that to the bank. It's just a matter of how far you can push it and when you can start pushing it." Don Kelly started in right field on Tuesday night. It would make sense to stick Ordonez in the DH spot while Victor Martinez is on the disabled list, but Leyland said he might prefer to have him playing the field.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland hopes Magglio Ordonez (hamstring) can return to the lineup Thursday.
Ordonez is currently sidelined with a tight left hamstring, something that has bothered him on more than one occasion this spring. He chose to take off Tuesday -- every Tigers' veteran gets one spring day off -- and the team has a scheduled off-day on Wednesday, so hopefully the rest will do him good. "It played out perfectly that his day off is tomorrow," said Leyland. "I'm a little concerned. I've got to get Magglio ready." Ordonez is batting .211 with one homer, two doubles and two RBI over 38 at-bats this spring.

Thu Jan 20 201116:27Magglio to hit third in Tigers' 2011 lineup
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Thursday that he plans to bat Magglio Ordonez third, Miguel Cabrera fourth and Victor Martinez fifth this season.
As with all big league lineups, this is subject to change. But it does make some sense. Ordonez didn't flash great power last season, but he still managed a cool .378 on-base percentage and should allow a ton of RBI chances for Cabrera and Martinez. The heart of the Tigers' lineup is lethal.

The 36-year-old Ordonez posted a .303/.378/.474 batting line and 12 home runs over 323 at-bats in 2010 for Detroit and will be relevant in fantasy leagues if he can stay off the disabled list. He's expected to start in right field.
