Sun Jul 18 201016:12Stammen excellent in tough-luck loss
Craig Stammen hurled six innings of one-run ball in a loss to the Marlins on Sunday afternoon.
A rare solid start by Stammen. He scattered six hits while fanning six and walking three. The lone run scored on an RBI double by Gaby Sanchez in the bottom of the fifth inning. Stammen has just one win over his last 13 starts. Sunday's start notwithstanding, he is not a recommended option in fantasy.
Mon Jun 28 201023:01Nats recall Craig Stammen
Nationals recalled RHP Craig Stammen from Triple-A Syracuse.
As expected, Stammen will start Tuesday's game against the Braves. The 26-year-old right-hander has a 5.43 and 1.45 WHIP over 12 starts with the Nationals this season. He's not worth your time in fantasy leagues.
Mon Jun 28 201015:18Stammen to start against Braves on Tuesday
Craig Stammen will be called up to start against the Braves on Tuesday.
Stammen was optioned to the minors on June 6 after posting a 5.43 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and a 31/16 K/BB ratio over 12 big league starts. The 26-year-old has done a decent job at Triple-A, but should be avoided in all fantasy formats.

Sat Jun 19 201013:29Stammen could move to Nationals' bullpen
Nationals manager Jim Riggleman told MLB.com's Bill Ladson that Craig Stammen could pitch out of the Nationals' bullpen when the Nationals recall him.
The Nationals would be wise not to add another starter to their current mix, since Jordan Zimmermann is going to take someone's spot when he returns in August anyway. Stammen wasn't particularly effective in his 12 starts with the Nationals, 1-2 with a 5.43 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP, so perhaps a move to the bullpen will benefit him.

Sun Jun 6 201017:13Strasburg coming: Stammen to Triple-A
Nationals optioned RHP Craig Stammen to Triple-A Syracuse.
The move comes in anticipation of Stephen Strasburg's imminent promotion. The 26-year-old Stammen made himself expandable by going 1-2 with a 5.88 ERA over 11 starts. He's produced a 5.39 ERA over 165-plus career innings in the big leagues.
Sat May 22 201019:32Stammen knocked around in no-decision
Craig Stammen was touched up for six runs -- four earned -- over 5 1/3 innings as part of a no-decision against the Orioles on Saturday.
Stammen was pounded for nine hits, including two home runs -- one of the inside-the-park variety -- while striking out one and walking none. He is winless since April 19 against the Rockies, a span of six starts. He'll bring a 5.96 ERA into a matchup against the Giants next week.
Fri May 7 201022:09Stammen allows just one earned vs. Fish
Craig Stammen was a hard-luck loser on Friday night after surrendering just two runs -- one earned -- in 6 2/3 innings against the Nationals.
Stammen impressively struck out a career-high eight and walked none. He still sports an ugly 5.62 ERA, but that mostly stems from a 1 1/3 innings, seven earned run shellacking in Philadelphia on April 14. He's a decent back-of-the-rotation starter for the Nationals, but he's not on the fantasy radar.
Sat Apr 24 201017:34Stammen handed no-decision vs. Dodgers
Craig Stammen yielded three runs over seven innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Saturday afternoon.
Stammen scattered six hits and didn't walk a batter. He was even 2-for-3 with an RBI. Unfortunately, a pair of home runs by Casey Blake spoiled the solid effort. On the bright side, Stammen has allowed just four runs over his last 14 innings pitched (1.29 ERA). He'll look to keep the ball rolling against the Marlins next week.
Mon Apr 19 201022:00Stammen stymies Rockies in 5-2 win
Craig Stammen yielded two runs over eight innings in a 5-2 win over the Rockies on Monday night.
He was probably just happy to see anybody besides the Phillies. Stammen pounded the lower part of the zone, throwing 62 of 94 pitches for strikes while fanning five, walking one and inducing 11 groundballs. Even with the excellent start, his ERA stands at an obscene 8.16 after three starts. He'll look to build on this one against the Dodgers this weekend.
Wed Apr 14 201022:55Stammen gets rocked in Philly
Craig Stammen was blasted for seven earned runs in 1 1/3 innings against the Phillies on Wednesday.
Stammen was staked to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and instantly fell apart. Remarkably, he didn't take the loss. It's almost unfair that he's had to face the Phillies in both of his starts this season, but we suspect he'd only fair slightly better against a mediocre offense. It doesn't get much easier against the Rockies next time out.
Thu Apr 8 201019:43Stammen allows nine hits in rough outing
Craig Stammen surrendered nine hits and four earned runs over five innings Thursday to the Phillies, but escaped with a no-decision.
Stammen was about as bad as we expected. He had a nice spring, posting a 2.89 ERA over 9 1/3 innings, but probably doesn't belong in a major league rotation and definitely shouldn't be on fantasy rosters. The 26-year-old will face the Phillies again next week in Philadelphia.
