X-rays on Jeff Keppinger's wrist have come back negative.
It's evidently a relatively minor injury, but Keppinger still mind wind up on the disabled list, as the Giants need healthy bodies right now after going through a rash of injuries. Nate Schierholtz (foot) is also day-to-day, and it seems likely that San Fran will choose one of the two to DL. Keppinger is probably the better bet.

Jeff Keppinger is being sent for an MRI on his wrist.
Well, this is just getting ridiculous. The Giants are getting Keppinger checked out after he jammed his wrist in a collision with Freddie Freeman at first base on Monday night. Mike Fontenot will start in his place at second base Tuesday and bat second against right-hander Randall Delgado.

Keppinger is has come out of the All-Star break by going 6-of-13 with two homers. However, this is a guy that hit six homers and drove in 57 runs last year despite getting 514 at-bats. Don't chase this little burst.

Keppinger has been getting regular playing time all month, but he came into today with no homers and six RBI in 23 June games. And when he got 514 at-bats a year ago, he hit just six homers and drove in a mere 59 runs. Today can safely be considered a fluke.

Astros manager Brad Mills isn't sure how the playing time will break down amongst his multitude of infielders.
With Jeff Keppinger added to the roster and Brian Bogusevic sent down, the Astros now how seven infielders and just four outfielders on the roster. Keppinger started at second base and hit in the second spot in the lineup in his first game back off the DL, getting two hits and driving in a run. He's likely to play all over the infield, stealing playing time from Bill Hall, Clint Barmes and Chris Johnson.

Astros general manager Ed Wade said Tuesday that Jeff Keppinger (foot) could return from the disabled list as soon as Friday.
"I'm optimistic by the weekend he'll be back," said Wade. "We asked him to extend his stay at Oklahoma City to get back-to-back games under his belt. If everything moves in a straight line, we're looking at Friday or Saturday." Keppinger is batting .318 (14-for-44) with one home run and a 1/3 K/BB ratio over the first 11 games of his rehab assignment. He could soon supplant the struggling Bill Hall as the starting second baseman.

Jeff Keppinger (foot) will play Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for Triple-A Oklahoma City before being reevaluated by the Astros, who could then activate him from the disabled list.
Keppinger underwent foot surgery in January and needs to get some at-bats under his belt. He's hitting .314 with a homer over 35 rehab at-bats. "This is his spring training," Astros manager Brad Mills said. "We want to build up at-bats, build up strength. He's mentioned that [his foot] has been tired, so we have to build up strength. We just want to keep it to where it doesn't get worn out. That's the biggest thing."
