The Cleveland Indians optioned right-hander Shawn Armstrong to Class-AAA Columbus on Saturday, reducing their roster to 47 players.

Armstrong was recalled by the Indians on Tuesday.

Armstrong has displayed dominant stuff at Triple-A Columbus throughout the season, striking out 80 batters in just under 50 innings. He'll add right-handed depth out of the bullpen for the Indians.

Armstrong will be called up on Tuesday from Triple-A Columbus.

With the rosters expanding on Tuesday, Armstrong will get the call up from Triple-A Columbus. In 46 appearances in Triple-A, Armstrong holds a 2.36 ERA with 16 saves in 17 chances and has not conceded a run in 2.2 innings with the Indians this season.

Armstrong was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Saturday night, Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

In order to clear a 25-man roster spot for Saturday's scheduled starting pitcher, Josh Tomlin, Armstrong was deemed an expendable piece in the Tribe's bullpen and sent back to the minors. Armstrong logged the first two big-league appearances of his career during the call-up period, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings and striking out four batters.

Armstrong was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Saturday.

Armstrong will make his major league debut likely operating out of middle relief to begin. He's put up impressive numbers in 2015, throwing 44 innings with a 2.25 ERA and striking out 14.1 batters per nine innings. He's also allowed a grand total of seven home runs in his professional career spanning five years and 206.2 innings, including none allowed in 2015.

Armstrong was optioned to Triple-A on Tuesday, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports.

Armstrong will be used as a reliever at Triple-A until the Indians have a need of reinforcements in the big league bullpen, at which point Armstrong could be used in the middle innings.
