Fri Jul 30 201023:23Casilla's 2-run HR propels Twins to a 5-3 win
Alexi Casilla hit a two-run homer in a 5-3 win over the Mariners on Friday night.
The home run was reviewed by umpires before they came back with a positive verdict for Minnesota. Casilla's first homer of the season would have been a three-run job had Denard Span not been picked off (again) from first during his at-bat. With Orlando Hudson and Nick Punto on the disabled list, Casilla is playing second base everyday while batting second. He's hit a surprising .286/.370/.413 in limited at-bats this year and deserves to be used in AL-only formats until Hudson is activated.

Twins activated INF Alexi Casilla from the 15-day disabled list.
Casilla has been out since the beginning of June after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow. He was batting .256/.370/.333 in 39 at-bats when he went down and will return to a utility infield role.

Alexi Casilla (elbow) is expected to return to the Twins this week.
Casilla has been sidelined since early June due to arthroscopic elbow surgery and has been traveling through the Twins' farm system for over a week to get his timing right at the plate. The utility infielder was batting .256/.370/.333 in 39 at-bats before hitting the disabled list on June 1.

Wed Jun 23 201000:19Casilla making progress after elbow surgery
Alexi Casilla is making progress after undergoing surgery to remove bone chips from his right elbow earlier this month.
Casilla reportedly felt "great" after playing catch and taking 30 swings left-handed and 15 right-handed on Tuesday. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said that he could be ready to take batting practice with the team when they return home next week. Barring any setbacks, a rehab assignment won't be far behind.

Alexi Casilla, recovering from elbow surgery, took swings Saturday in a batting cage and played catch.

Wed Jun 2 201020:20Casilla's elbow surgery to cost him 4-8 weeks
Alexi Casilla will have arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow Friday and is expected to miss 4-8 weeks.
With Orlando Hudson's current health concerns, Casilla's injury comes at a most inopportune time. He was playing effectively in a utility role and shouldn't have any issues pushing Matt Tolbert aside once he rehabs the elbow.

Tue Jun 1 201001:22Casilla may need elbow surgery
Twins placed IF Alexi Casilla on the 15-day disabled list with bone spurs in his right elbow.
Casilla was used as a pinch-runner Monday night, but the inability to backdate the DL stint likely doesn't matter because he may need arthroscopic surgery that would be sideline him for at least a month. He was playing well in a utility role and would have been in line for starts with Orlando Hudson out.
Sat May 22 201021:02Twins' Casilla returns, walks three times
Alexi Casilla, who was unavailable Friday because of a sore elbow, walked three times in three plate appearances after entering Saturday's game.
We can only assume his elbow was still really bothering him. Casilla isn't quite a hacker at the plate, but he typically walks about once every 14 plate appearances. He entered today's game because Orlando Hudson left with an elbow injury of his own.
Sat May 22 201000:19Casilla undergoes MRI on elbow
Alexi Casilla was unavailable on Friday after undergoing an MRI on his right elbow.
"He came in today and it was really sore, so we're doing an MRI to check it out and see what's in there," said Twins manager Ron Gardenhire. "So we're thin to say the least. With Casilla down, the Twins only had Brendan Harris available as an extra infielder off the bench on Friday, but it hardly mattered, as the Twins trounced the Brewers 15-3. It's not known if the injury will require an extended absence.
