Tue Apr 15 201423:32Report: Josh Johnson could need TJ surgery
Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan reports that the Padres are worried that Josh Johnson might need Tommy John surgery.
Johnson's elbow hasn't been getting any better and will be sent to the infamous Dr. James Andrews next week for a second opinion. It would be Johnson's second Tommy John surgery and the second operation on his elbow in the last six months, as he had bone spurs removed over the offseason. The Padres have a $4 million option on Johnson for 2015 if he starts fewer than seven games.

Tue Apr 15 201420:04Dr. Andrews to look at Josh Johnson's elbow
Josh Johnson will have his right elbow examined by Dr. James Andrews next week.
Well, that's never a good sign. Johnson began the season on the DL with a strained flexor muscle, and he's yet to show any notable improvement. Padres general manager Josh Byrnes admitted Tuesday that he's "not sure" whether the right-hander will pitch this season. More will obviously be known after his exam next week.

Sun Apr 13 201420:44Josh Johnson to be re-evaluated this week
Josh Johnson (forearm) will be re-evaluated this week.
The Padres are growing concerned that the oft-injured hurler isn't improving quickly enough. He was given an initial timeframe of five weeks, but it's beginning to look like it could extend beyond that mark.

Sat Mar 29 201421:14Johnson (arm) placed on 15-day disabled list
Padres placed RHP Josh Johnson on the 15-day disabled list with a strained flexor muscle in his right forearm.
Johnson will miss up to five weeks with the injury. Robbie Erlin will take Johnson's rotation spot to start the season. Johnson signed a one-year, $8 million deal with the Padres in November.

Sat Mar 22 201419:05Johnson to miss a month with strained flexor
Josh Johnson will miss a month to five weeks with a strained flexor muscle in his right forearm.
It's a huge blow to the Padres, who were counting on Johnson as a productive member of the starting rotation. Johnson had surgery in October to remove bone spurs from his right elbow, so it's unclear if this injury is related to his previous issues. Robbie Erlin may step into Johnson's rotation spot to start the year.

Tue Mar 18 201423:50Josh Johnson looks good versus Mariners
Josh Johnson held the Mariners to one run on three hits and two walks over 4 1/3 frames Tuesday.
He also recorded five strikeouts, pushing his K/BB ratio this spring to 13/4 over 13 1/3 innings to go along with a 3.38 ERA. Johnson has nice bounce-back potential this year in San Diego if he can stay healthy.

Thu Mar 13 201417:11Johnson performs well against Brewers
Josh Johnson tossed four strong innings in his start against the Brewers on Thursday, allowing only one run.
Johnson was on point, giving up just two hits and a walk while striking out three in the effort. The right-hander is coming off of off-season elbow surgery. If he can stay healthy, he is a good bounce-back candidate especially when his new home ballpark is factored in.

Sat Mar 8 201418:21Johnson surrenders 3 runs over 3 innings
Josh Johnson allowed three earned runs on five hits and a walk over three innings in Saturday's 10-inning 4-4 tie against the Indians.
He struck out three and walked one in the Cactus League action. The right-hander tossed two perfect innings in his Padres' debut on Monday. Add it all up and he's at a 5.40 ERA through two spring appearances. Johnson had surgery to remove bone spurs in his right elbow in October. Fantasy owners should be monitoring his Cactus League outings as close as anyone this month.

Mon Mar 3 201418:05Johnson blanks Padres over two innings
Josh Johnson blanked the Giants over two perfect innings of work in Monday's start.
Johnson, making his Cactus League debut, struck out Hunter Pence and Michael Morse in the second inning before departing. The right-hander had surgery to remove bone spurs in his right elbow in October, so this is as good a start as the Padres could have hoped for.

Sun Mar 2 201413:02Josh Johnson on normal throwing schedule
Josh Johnson (elbow) will make his Cactus League debut on Monday.
He'll then pitch again on Saturday. Johnson has been brought along slowly after surgery in October to remove bone spurs from his pitching elbow, but he's now on a normal throwing schedule. The big right-hander has bounce-back potential in 2014 pitching half his games at Petco Park.

Sat Feb 8 201420:55Johnson to be brought along slowly in spring
Josh Johnson (elbow) will be brought along slowly this spring to keep him healthy, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports.
Johnson had surgery in October to remove bone spurs from his pitching elbow, but he's already thrown three bullpen sessions this spring and he hopes to throw two more before pitchers and catchers report on February 13. Johnson signed with the Padres in November, and the team is counting on him to be a valuable member of the rotation this season. Assuming health and with his horrendous 2013 behind him, Johnson is a nice bounce-back candidate this year.

Wed Nov 20 201313:14Padres officially sign RHP Josh Johnson
Padres signed RHP Josh Johnson to a one-year, $8 million contract.
Johnson can earn an additional $1.25 million if he makes more than 26 starts. If he makes fewer than seven starts, the Padres will have the option of bringing him back for $4 million in 2015. The 29-year-old had an awful 6.20 ERA in 16 starts with the Blue Jays this past season and is coming off surgery to remove bone spurs from his pitching elbow, but he'll be in a great environment for a rebound. Look for him to be a very trendy sleeper pick in fantasy leagues next spring.

Tue Nov 19 201323:28Johnson inks one-year, $8M deal with Padres
EPSN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Padres have signed Josh Johnson to a one-year, $8 million contract.
The deal also includes performance bonuses based on games started. Following a disappointing 2013 campaign, Johnson was looking for a one-year deal as a means to rebuild his value, and he certainly found a cushy landing spot. If he can manage to stay healthy, the big right-hander makes for a nice fantasy sleeper while pitching his home games at spacious Petco Park.

Tue Nov 19 201314:34Pirates finalists to sign RHP Josh Johnson
Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review was told by Josh Johnson's agent that the Pirates are one of the finalists to sign his client.
Johnson's agent said he's considering three or four teams. On a related note, we heard Monday that he would prefer to sign with the Giants and Padres. All of them would offer promising environments for a rebound. Coming off an injury-plagued season, Johnson is looking for a one-year deal to reestablish his value and test the market again next winter.

Mon Nov 18 201318:14Giants, Padres are Johnson's first choices
Henry Shulman of the San Francisco Chronicle hears that Josh Johnson has told the Giants and Padres that they are his first choices.
He has both clubs at the top of his list because they're near his Las Vegas home. Shulman says he's unsure whether the Giants have offered Johnson a contract, and they might no longer be interested after signing Tim Hudson. The big right-hander could be looking for a one-year deal as he attempts to rebuild his value.

Wed Nov 13 201317:56Royals hoping to sign starter Josh Johnson
ESPN's Buster Olney writes that the Royals "want to work something out with Josh Johnson."
Johnson had a brutal 6.20 ERA in 16 starts with the Blue Jays this year, but he's been a frontline pitcher in the past and the Royals are hoping to get him on a low-risk, one-year deal. Johnson was not given a qualifying offer from Toronto, so signing him does not require the forfeiture of a top draft pick. Because of all these factors, he is likely drawing interest from multiple teams.

Mon Nov 4 201313:56Josh Johnson not tendered qualifying offer
Josh Johnson will not get a qualifying offer from Toronto.
So he'll be a free agent on Tuesday with no ties to draft pick compensation. The 29-year-old righty had a miserable year with the Blue Jays but should have multiple suitors this winter because of his past success. The qualifying offer would have been one year, $14.1 million.

Fri Nov 1 201316:32Jays unlikely to make qual. offer to Johnson
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Blue Jays are unlikely to make a qualifying offer to Josh Johnson.
Johnson posted a 6.02 ERA over just 16 starts this season and ended the year on the DL with forearm trouble. He also had surgery last month to remove bone spurs from his pitching elbow. However, Johnson's agent, Matt Sosnick, said Friday his client is "100 percent healthy" and will begin his offseason throwing program in 10 days. He's always going to be a health risk, but Johnson won't have trouble getting someone to gamble on his upside.

Tue Oct 1 201312:24Josh Johnson undergoes minor elbow surgery
Josh Johnson's agent, Matt Sosnick, told MLB Trade Rumors that his client underwent minor elbow surgery Tuesday morning to remove bone spurs.
The surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews. The good news is that no issues were found with his elbow ligament and he will resume throwing in five weeks, so he should have plenty of time to get ready for spring training. The 29-year-old posted an ugly 6.20 ERA over 16 starts this season and figures to look for a one-year deal in free agency this winter so that he can reestablish his value and test the open market again after 2014.

Wed Aug 28 201310:52Josh Johnson (forearm) done for the year
Josh Johnson (forearm) will not pitch again this season.
It's hardly a big surprise at this point, as Dr. James Andrews recently shut him down from throwing for two weeks due to a right forearm strain. The good news is that he won't need surgery, but there simply won't be enough time for him to get back into game action. The 29-year-old will head into free agency with a disappointing 6.30 ERA over 16 starts. Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com speculates that the Blue Jays likely won't bother making him a qualifying offer.
