Sat Mar 28 201516:07Jorge De La Rosa: (Groin) Timetable Could Be Bumped Back
De La Rosa (groin), who was expected to make his first start in the Rockies' home opener April 10, could be out longer than than, the Denver Post reports.
De La Rosa is progressing slower than he had initially hoped, but played long toss Friday and could throw a bullpen session next week. Once his groin pain subsides, the south paw will begin building up his arm strength and believes he will need to make two or three starts before rejoining the Rockies. While his timetable hasn't officially been pushed back at this point, it would be extremely difficult to get all of that work in between and April 10. The team will likely provide an update if he is indeed bumped back.
Tue Mar 24 201513:33Jorge De La Rosa: (Groin) Unlikely To Be Ready For Opener
De La Rosa (groin) has been limited to just playing catch, and is unlikely to be ready for the start of the season, the Denver Post's Nick Groke reports.
Manager Walt Weiss said that De La Rosa has "pretty much been shut down," and it is looking like he will start the year on the disabled list due to the groin injury. While prospects Jon Gray and Eddie Butler will probably get a shot at some point this season, the Rockies may opt to slot in someone like Christian Bergman or David Hale if De La Rosa only figures to miss a short stretch of time.

An MRI on De La Rosa's left groin revealed "nothing bad" and he will play catch Monday, MLB.com's Thomas Harding reports.
He was sore on Sunday, but not on Monday, so it sounds like he should be back pitching against live hitters very soon. It is still not clear whether or not De La Rosa will be able to take the ball for his first turn in the Rockies' rotation, and this is something his owners will need to follow as the season approaches.

De La Rosa (groin) said Saturday that he's unsure if he will make his next spring start, the Denver Post reports. "We'll know more Monday," De La Rosa said. "I want to take my time. I don't want to be worse."
The groin first presented issues for De La Rosa last week, resulting in him missing a start, and he tweaked the muscle on a pitch during Friday's outing. He also said it felt tight earlier in the game. De La Rosa will be re-evaluated Monday, and if it's determined he should not take the hill for his next Cactus League turn, it could affect his availability for his scheduled home-opening start April 10 against the Cubs.
Fri Mar 20 201518:03De La Rosa has tightness in left groin
De La Rosa has tightness in his left groin, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
De La Rosa started Friday's game and reached his 45-pitch limit, at which point he left the game favoring his groin. He did not speak to the media after the game, so at this point it's unclear how severe the injury is. Consider De La Rosa day-to-day until further notice.

De La Rosa (groin) tossed two scoreless innings in his return to the mound for Sunday's B-game against the Diamondbacks.
De La Rosa wasn't exactly facing top-tier competition in his spring debut, but the Rockies have to be nonetheless encouraged by how sharp he looked in his return from left groin tightness. He painted the zone for 16 strikes on 25 pitches, and was able to get a little more work in as part of a bullpen session after the outing. The left-hander, who is expected to serve as the Rockies' Opening Day starter, is on track to cover three innings in his next spring start later this week.

De La Rosa (groin) will pitch in the Rockies' "B" game Sunday and manager Walt Weiss thinks he will be ready for the opening week of the regular season, the Denver Post's Patrick Saunders reports.
This is a positive development after De La Rosa missed his scheduled start Thursday with a tight groin. He probably won't start Opening Day, but it does not sound like he will miss his turn in the rotation the first time through.
Tue Mar 10 201513:33Jorge De La Rosa: (Groin) Will Miss Scheduled Start Thursday
De La Rosa (groin) will miss his scheduled Cactus League start Thursday, the Denver Post reports. "It's still feeling a little tight, so I won't be pitching until next week," De La Rosa said Tuesday morning. "It's not a big deal, but we are being cautious."
The 33-year-old is yet to pitch in a game this spring, but he's expected to toss a bullpen session either Tuesday or Wednesday. That indicates the issue isn't overly serious, but the Rockies will certainly exercise caution with their No. 1 starter.

De La Rosa (groin) will throw a bullpen session Sunday and is expected to make his next scheduled spring start Thursday, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.
The Rockies decided to play it safe and scratch De La Rosa from Saturday's outing due to a bout of groin tightness, but evidently it is just a minor issue. De La Rosa went 14-11 with a 4.10 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 139:67 K:BB in 184.1 innings last season and figures to make a second straight Opening Day start for Colorado, health permitting.

De La Rosa has been scratched from his Saturday spring training start due to groin tightness, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
De La Rosa will instead throw a bullpen session, which means this injury is likely insignificant in the long run to Opening Day. That said, De La Rosa is 33 years old and injuries like this can escalate as a player moves deeper into the wrong side of 30. Any time missed by him in the regular season would really hurt for the Rockies though, as he's been a fairly reliable innings eater in Coors Field, where any pitcher who can hold his own has been valuable.

De La Rosa pitched six quality innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and four walks, while striking out seven in a no-decision Tuesday against the Padres.
De La Rosa has now tossed three-straight quality starts, where he has given up just six runs (five earned) in his last 18 innings pitched. This was De La Rosa's last start of the year and he had a solid, yet unspectacular 2014 campaign. He finishes his season with 14 wins, a 4.10 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 139:67 K:BB in 184.1 innings.

De La Rosa struck out three and walked two while giving up two hits over six scoreless innings Wednesday to earn his 14th win of the season.
On a day where the Colorado offense piled up 16 runs, the Rockies' ace pitched very well to earn his 10th win of the year at Coors Field. De La Rosa continues to display surprisingly favorable home splits an ERA (3.09) more than two runs below his road mark (5.24). Barring a change in the Rockies' rotation schedule, De La Rosa will finish his 2014 campaign Tuesday against the Padres at Petco Park.

De La Rosa (13-11) took the loss on Friday against the Cardinals as he gave up four runs (three earned) on four hits as he walked three and struck out six hitters.
Things got out of hand early for De La Rosa as a he gave up a first-inning three-run homer to Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday. De La Rosa managed to settle down only giving up one more additional run over the next five innings. De La Rosa next takes the mound on Wednesday against the Dodgers.

De La Rosa allowed six hits and three runs against the Padres on Saturday, while striking out four and walking one in a no-decision.
De La Rosa left in the sixth with a 6-3 lead, but the Rockies' bullpen couldn't hold it. The Rockies used 10 total pitchers through 12 innings before eking out a 7-6 victory.

The Rockies have agreed to a two-year, $25 million extension with De La Rosa that will keep him pitching in Colorado through the 2016 season.
His 44 wins at Coors Field are the most all-time and his .759 home winning percentage since 2008 is the second best mark in the majors. But if we dig a little deeper, the deal may not work out very well for Colorado. De La Rosa is already 33 years old and his career high for innings in a season was 185 back in 2009. In addition, his 17.7 percent K-rate this season is his highest mark since 2011. The deal doesn't contain any options, and De La Rosa will always have limited fantasy appeal as long as he's pitching in Colorado.

De La Rosa was officially credited with tossing three scoreless innings in Tuesday's resumption of a suspended game with the Giants from May 22.
The game was suspended 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning on that date, leaving De La Rosa's stat line in limbo in some fantasy leagues. Now that the game has been completed, De La Rosa's owners should check to see that he was properly credited with the three scoreless frames.
Sun Aug 31 201414:49De La Rosa (thumb) set to take mound Sunday against Diamondbacks
De La Rosa (thumb) is set to take the mound Sunday against the Diamondbacks.
De La Rosa jammed his thumb in sixth inning of his last start while attempting a bunt. Although he had some numbness initially, it dissipated after the game, leading him to the conclusion he would likely make his next start. That is indeed the case, as he takes the mound for his 28th start Sunday and will go for his 14th win of the season.
Wed Aug 27 201411:56Jorge De La Rosa: (Thumb) Expects To Make Next Start
De La Rosa (thumb) believes he'll be able to make his next start Sunday against the Diamondbacks, Rick Eymer of the Denver Post reports.
De La Rosa jammed his thumb while attempting to bunt in the sixth inning, but remained in the game to pitch the bottom half of the frame, before he was pulled after allowing a two-run homer. He said the numbness in his thumb dissipated after the game, giving him confidence that he'll be able to take the hill for his second start in the week. The Rockies will likely wait and see how he comes through his between-starts throwing session before determining if he's fit to pitch Sunday.

De La Rosa pitched just five innings (due to a thumb contusion) Tuesday against the Giants, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks, while striking out five batters in the loss.
We'll see how his thumb effects him for his next start, but his inconsistent season continues, as he now sports a 4.19 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 114:54 K:BB ratio in 154.2 innings pitched. If he can make his next start, it will come Sunday on the road against the Diamondbacks.
Wed Aug 27 201400:37Jorge De La Rosa: Exits with Bruised Thumb
De La Rosa was removed from Tuesday's start against the Rockies with a left thumb contusion, Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area reports.
De La Rosa left the game on track for the loss, after yielding two runs and striking out five batters over five innings. The injury might have been sustained during his at-bat in the top of the sixth inning, as he had trouble locating his pitches in the bottom half of the frame, walking Hunter Pence and then giving up a two-run homer to Buster Posey. The Rockies will likely wait and see how he progresses over the next two days before determining if De La Rosa is fit to make his next start, scheduled for Sunday vs. the Diamondbacks.
