Petit lasted just four innings Tuesday against the Rockies, allowing six runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out five in the no-decision.
After taking Tim Lincecum's spot in the rotation and looking good in his first two starts, Petit took a step back after Tuesday's sub-par outing. He now has 3.89 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 101:18 K:BB ratio in 90.1 innings pitched this year(including eight starts). We'll see if the Giants stick with Petit, as he may make next Tuesday's start at home against the Diamondbacks, but it's undecided at this moment.
Fri Aug 29 201420:07Petit scheduled to start Tuesday against Colorado
Petit is scheduled to start Tuesday against Colorado, Amy Gutierrez of CSN Bay Area reports.
Petit received the start in the place of Tim Lincecum Thursday, and it appears he will keep the job through at least one more turn through the rotation. He also pitched well in his last outing, so it's possible he could retain the spot for the remainder of the regular season if he continues to do so.

Petit was dazzling on Thursday afternoon, allowing just one run on four hits, he did not walk a hitter and struck out nine over six innings of a 4-1 win against Colorado.
Along the way, Petit (4-3, 3.44 ERA) established a Major League record by retiring 46 consecutive hitters - he has not allowed a baserunner since late July - before the opposing pitcher Jordan Lyles smacked a double in the third inning to break the string. He has stepped in for the struggling Tim Lincecum, and this outing will only reinforce his claim to that rotation spot. Since he has been pitching primarily in long relief, he may need some time to build his stamina, but he's on a roll right now.
Mon Aug 25 201420:06Petit will join rotation and start Thursday against Rockies
Petit will join the rotation and start Thursday against the Rockies, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
After Tim Lincecum failed to cover six frames in five of his last six starts and lasted just 2.2 innings his last time out, manager Bruce Bochy decided to drop the former two-time Cy Young winner from the rotation, with the Giants desperate to improve their positioning for the postseason. While Petit doesn't have anywhere close to the shiny resume Lincecum does as a starter, he's probably the better rotation option at this stage of their respective careers. Although he's had mixed results in his six previous starts this season, Petit owns a 3.59 ERA (2.78 FIP) and an impressive 87:17 K:BB ratio over 80.1 total innings, and was highly effective in seven starts with the Giants in 2013. It's not clear at this time if Petit's appointment to the rotation will be permanent, but if he continues to pitch close to as well as he already has to this point, it will be tough to justify moving him back to the bullpen.

Petit tossed 4.1 perfect innings of long relief Saturday, striking out five and walking none in the loss to the Nationals.
Petit was asked to take the ball after starter Tim Lincecum was chased after just 2.2 innings. Lincecum has struggled mightily in the month of August (7.94 ERA) and Petit hasn't allowed an earned run since July 22 (12.1 innings). There are talks that Lincecum may be skipped for his next outing, and Petit would be the likely candidate to take his spot in the rotation. Nothing is finalized, but it is important to note that Petit's ERA as a starter this season is 6.32, compared to 2.01 as a reliever, so he wouldn't be a must-add despite his recent success.
Wed Jul 23 201401:09Petit takes no-decision in a marathon win
Yusmeiro Petit went home with a no-decision, allowing five runs in five innings as the Giants outlasted the Phillies in a 14-inning win on Tuesday.
Petit was starting in place of the injured Matt Cain. The top of the Phillies' lineup had his number, particularly in a three-run fifth-inning which included a Jimmy Rollins two-run home run. Overall, Petit yielded seven hits and two walks while striking out five. Pitching mostly out of the bullpen, Petit has a 4.24 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 71/17 K/BB ratio. He'll start against the Dodgers at home on Sunday.

Mon Jul 21 201412:03Petit to start for Giants on Tuesday vs. PHI
Yusmeiro Petit will start for the Giants on Tuesday night against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.
Petit is filling in for Matt Cain, who was placed on the disabled list Monday morning with right elbow inflammation. Petit, 29, has a solid 3.86 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 66/15 K/BB ratio in 63 innings (five starts and 21 relief appearances) this season for San Francisco. He makes for a decent streamer in deep mixed fantasy leagues.

Sat May 31 201418:28Petit allows Oscar Taveras HR in loss to STL
Yusemeiro Petit surrendered one run in six innings Saturday in a loss to the Cardinals.
Petit was making a spot start in place of Matt Cain (hamstring) and really only had one hiccup -- a monstrous debut solo home run for Cardinals top prospect Oscar Taveras. Petit struck out five and yielded just two total hits. He could get another turn next week.

Mon May 26 201420:06Yusmeiro Petit struggles in spot start
Yusmeiro Petit struggled in a spot start Monday, yielding four runs over five innings in a loss to the Cubs.
Petit was gifted a 3-1 lead after Pablo Sandoval's two-run homer in the third, but the wheels came off in the fifth when he served up four hits and three runs to cough up the lead. Matt Cain (hamstring) is expected to be fine for his next start, so Petit is headed back to the bullpen.

Sun May 25 201410:31Yusmeiro Petit to make spot start
Yusmeiro Petit will start on Monday versus the Cubs in place of the injured Matt Cain (hamstring).
The hope is that Cain will miss just the one outing, so it's just a spot start for Petit, who holds a 4.76 ERA but a nice 33/8 K/BB ratio over 34 frames this season. It will be his fourth start this season.

Sat May 17 201401:40Yusmiero Petit gives up five runs in start
Yusmeiro Petit surrendered five runs -- four earned -- over five innings in his spot start Friday against the Marlins.
Petit has been ineffective in two of his three starts for the Giants this year, but that's less of a concern now than Ryan Vogelsong has turned things around. Petit has done just fine in the pen, and he'll return there if Tim Hudson can make his next start.

Tue May 6 201401:06Yusmeiro Petit gives up eight runs to Pirates
Yusmeiro Petit was pounded for eight runs in 4 1/3 innings Monday in his spot start against the Pirates.
Petit entered with a 2.61 ERA in one start and eight relief appearances, but the Pirates had his number tonight. He's slated to return to the pen now with Matt Cain hopeful of returning this weekend. He still has some value in NL-only leagues as a swingman.

Sun May 4 201420:56Petit expected to start for Giants on Monday
Yusmeiro Petit is expected to start in place of Matt Cain against the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Monday.
Cain hit the disabled list on Sunday due to his lacerated finger, giving Petit at least one more go-round through the Giants rotation. He was excellent in emergency duty on Tuesday, hurling five shutout innings in a victory over the Padres.

Wed Apr 30 201400:52What emergency?: Petit shuts down Padres
Yusmeiro Petit made the most of Tuesday's emergency start, firing six shutout innings with four strikeouts in an impressive victory over the Padres.
He scattered just three hits and didn't walk a batter. Not bad for a guy that woke up having zero conception that he'd be starting. Matt Cain, of course, was scratched after cutting his right index finger at the ballpark. Petit will head back to the bullpen on a high note. He's 2-1 with a 2.61 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 20/4 K/BB rate over 20 2/3 frames this year.

Sat Mar 22 201400:16Yusmeiro Petit fans seven in win over A's
Yusmeiro Petit racked up seven strikeouts in an impressive showing during Friday's victory over the Athletics.
Petit allowed just two singles and didn't walk a batter in the impressive showing. With Ryan Vogelsong having a rough spring, Petit could conceivably sneak in and occupy the final spot in the Giants rotation, but more likely he's battling David Huff for the long reliever role in the Opening Day bullpen.

Wed Mar 12 201418:59Petit solid against the White Sox
Yusmeiro Petit allowed an unearned run in two innings of work in the Giants' 4-3 victory over the White Sox.
The unearned run was entirely Petit's fault as he made an error trying to throw out Alejandro De Aza. De Aza then stole second base and came around to score on a single. Petit has been slowly getting better as the month has progressed but he'll have to turn on the afterburners to secure a spot in the rotation.

Mon Mar 3 201418:13Petit struggles again on Monday
Yusmeiro Petit was hit around to the tune of four runs in 1 1/3 innings of work Monday against the Giants
Petit has had back-to-back ugly outings to start Cactus League play. The four runs came on a walk and six hits, including a solo home run to Alexi Amarista. Petit is attempting to earn a spot at the back of the Giants' rotation but these last two appearances haven't helped his cause.

Wed Feb 26 201417:00Yusmeiro Petit gives up four runs vs. A's
Yusmeiro Petit gave up four runs on five hits in an inning of work against the Athletics on Wednesday.
Petit is competing for a spot at the back of the Giants' starting rotation, but the right-hander had a shaky Cactus League debut. The right-hander had a strong showing at the end of the 2013 season, posting a 3.59 ERA in seven starts, including nearly tossing a perfect game against the D-Backs.

Fri Jan 17 201414:03Yusmeiro Petit, Giants avoid arb.
Giants avoided arbitration with RHP Yusmeiro Petit by agreeing to a one-year, $845,000 contract.
Petit, who was arbitration-eligible for the first time, can earn more through incentives. The right-hander pitched surprisingly well down the stretch for the Giants last season, putting up a 3.56 ERA over 48 innings.

Sat Sep 28 201319:07Yusmeiro Petit knocked around by Padres
Yusmeiro Petit was knocked around in Saturday's loss to the Padres, surrendering five runs on seven hits in just 3 2/3 innings of work.
Petit struck out two and didn't walk a batter on the forgettable afternoon. He cruised through the first three innings, allowing just a solo homer to Chris Denorfia, but fell apart and was chased from the game in the four-run fourth inning. It's the first loss that he's suffered this season, concluding 4-1 with a 3.54 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 54/11 K/BB ratio over 53 1/3 innings. The 28-year-old is arbitration eligible this Winter, and will head to spring training looking to secure a spot in the Giants' Opening Day rotation
