Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Rays have agreed to sign right-hander Roberto Hernandez to a one-year, $3.25 million contract.
Topkin reported last week that the two sides were close. The deal includes $1.85 million in incentives based on innings pitched and relief appearances. Wed Dec 12 201212:28Rays close to signing RHP Roberto Hernandez
Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Rays are close to signing right-hander Roberto Hernandez.
Hernandez, formerly known as Fausto Carmona, got off to a late start this season following an arrest for falsifying his identity and then posted a 7.53 ERA in three starts with the Indians prior to suffering an ankle injury. He would function as depth for the rotation or bullpen, according to Topkin.

Mon Dec 3 201220:02Roberto Hernandez wants one-year deal
Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com hears that Roberto Hernandez is seeking a one-year deal and is drawing interest from at least five teams.
The artist formally known as Fausto Carmona is looking to re-establish himself on a one-year pact. The Indians declined his $6 million option for 2013 but are one of the clubs that is interested in the right-hander. Hernandez posted an ugly 7.53 ERA in three second-half starts in 2012.

Wed Nov 14 201222:02Roberto Hernandez drawing 'healthy interest'
According to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Roberto Hernandez is drawing "healthy" interest as a free agent.
The Indians declined Hernandez's $6 million option for 2013, but they're interested in bringing him back at a lesser rate. It sounds like they'll have some competition, though. Carmona posted an ugly 7.53 ERA in three starts before suffering a season-ending ankle sprain, but his ankle is fine now and he's shown enough flashes in the past that he could be a worthwhile back-end of the rotation addition.

Wed Oct 31 201212:43Indians decline option on Roberto Hernandez
Indians declined RHP Roberto Hernandez's $6 million club option for 2013.
Another expected move. Hernandez agreed to reduce his option from $9 million to $6 million after falsifying his identity, but he did little down the stretch to convince the Indians to keep him around, posting a 7.53 ERA in three starts before suffering a season-ending ankle sprain.

Fri Oct 26 201213:20Indians likely to decline Hernandez's option
Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports that the Indians are "likely" to decline Roberto Hernandez's $6 million option for 2013.
Hernandez's option was reduced from $9 million to $6 million after he was found to have a fraudulent identity, but apparently it's not enough of a discount to get the Indians to bring him back. It's not a surprise, as the 32-year-old was terrible in 2011 and late in 2012 for three starts before going down with an ankle injury. The Tribe is expected to exercise Ubaldo Jimenez's $5.75 million option.

Wed Sep 26 201220:53Roberto Hernandez throws simulated game
Roberto Hernandez (ankle) threw a four-inning simulated game Wednesday.
The Indians will decide on Friday whether to shut Hernandez down or give him another start. He's been out since August 27 due to a sprained right ankle. "He threw the ball very well and moved around better than the last time I saw him," manager Manny Acta said. "We're going to see how he bounces back, how he shows up on Friday, and then we'll make a decision then."

Tue Sep 25 201213:35Hernandez (ankle) set for simulated game
Roberto Hernandez (ankle) is scheduled to throw a simulated game Wednesday.
Hernandez hasn't pitched since August 27 due to a mild right ankle sprain. Throwing isn't an issue, but the Indians want to see how he moves around while fielding. It's possible he could be shut down for the rest of the season if he still feels discomfort Wednesday.

Wed Sep 19 201217:24Roberto Hernandez still not 100 percent
The Indians will make a determination on Roberto Hernandez's (ankle) status after a bullpen session Friday.
Hernandez still doesn't have full mobility with his right ankle, and if that remains the case Friday, the Tribe will likely just shut him down. He hasn't made a start this month.

Tue Sep 18 201220:26Roberto Hernandez throws bullpen session
Roberto Hernandez (ankle) threw an extended bullpen session Tuesday.
Hernandez will be re-evaluated in the coming days. The right-hander hasn't made a start this month due to an ankle injury, and although he seems healthy enough to do so, it's not a guarantee that he'll be re-inserted into the Indians' rotation.

Wed Sep 12 201218:46Roberto Hernandez to throw off mound
Roberto Hernandez (ankle) long-tossed this week and is scheduled to throw off a mound sometime next week.
The Indians have expressed doubt whether Hernandez would be able to make it back this season, but if he throws a bullpen session next week with no issues, he should have time. It remains to be seen whether he would be put back into the rotation.

Tue Sep 11 201219:10Roberto Hernandez out of walking boot
Roberto Hernandez (ankle) has had the walking boot removed from his right foot, but he's not a given to return this season.
From falsifying his identity and the subsequent suspension, to the 7.53 ERA he put up in three starts after returning and now to the possible season-ending injury, it's been a disastrous year all around for the right-hander. Jeanmar Gomez will continue to hold down Hernandez's rotation spot for now.

Sat Sep 1 201217:37Roberto Hernandez to miss at least one start
Roberto Hernandez (ankle) still has his foot in a walking boot and will miss at least one more start.
Hernandez has struggled through three starts on the season, posting an 0-3 record, 7.53 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 2/3 K/BB ratio over 14 1/3 innings. Jeanmar Gomez will continue to occupy his spot in the rotation for the time being.

Wed Aug 29 201216:33Acta confirms Hernandez won't miss start
Indians skipper Manny Acta confirmed Wednesday that Roberto Hernandez (ankle) will make his next start.
Hernandez suffered a mild right ankle sprain in the middle of his outing Monday against the A's, but he played catch Tuesday and threw a bullpen session on Wednesday afternoon. The right-hander should be fully recovered before it's his turn again to toe the rubber.

Mon Aug 27 201220:00Roberto Hernandez exits start with injury
Roberto Hernandez left Monday's start against the Athletics in the third inning with an apparent injury.
Hernandez had a lenghty chat on the mound with catcher Lou Marson and manager Manny Acta before retiring to the clubhouse. Before exiting, he allowed two runs and left with runners on second and third and one out. Chris Seddon replaced him on the mound. The Indians should provide an update on Hernandez's status soon.

Thu Aug 16 201200:57Roberto Hernandez shelled in 2012 debut
Making his first start of the season - and first not known as Fausto Carmona - Roberto Hernandez got lit up by the Angels in Wednesday's loss, allowing eight runs (five earned) on 10 hits in six innings.
New name, same tricks. One of the league's top groundballers when he's on his game, Hernandez could come into some value in AL-only leagues and deeper mixed formats down the stretch, but there's little upside in trusting him until he's reeled off a good start or two. He has a good matchup lined up for next Tuesday, where he'll take on the Mariners at Safeco Field.

Indians reinstated RHP Roberto Hernandez from the restricted list.
Hernandez, formerly known as Fausto Carmona, will make his first start of the season Wednesday night against the Angels. He posted a 4.07 ERA and 20/4 K/BB ratio over 24 1/3 innings during four minor league tune-ups starts and should have some value in AL-only leagues down the stretch.

Sat Aug 11 201216:17Roberto Hernandez returning to Indians Wed.
Roberto Hernandez -- formerly known as Fausto Carmona -- will make his season debut on Wednesday, getting the start against the Angels.
Indians skipper Manny Acta made the announcement on Saturday. Hernandez pitched very well in his final rehab start Friday with Triple-A Columbus and may be worth a try in deeper mixed leagues down the stretch if he shows positive signs early on and gets good matchups. He is likely to replace Chris Seddon in the Indians' rotation.
