Sat Sep 22 2012 | 14:41 | Capps (shoulder) set to join Twins on Monday |
Matt Capps (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a 45-pitch simulated game Saturday. |
Assuming he avoids setbacks, Capps will rejoin the Twins on Monday. Look for him to be used in low-leverage situations initially, before potentially being added to a committee with Glen Perkins and Jared Burton. |

Matt Capps (shoulder) will begin facing batters this week in the Twins' fall instructional league. |
Capps could rejoin the Twins for the final series of their 2012 regular season schedule. He has thrown only 28 1/3 innings this year because of a right rotator cuff injury and is likely to have his $6 million club option for 2013 declined this winter. |

Sun Sep 2 2012 | 09:14 | Matt Capps could return this year |
Twins general manager Terry Ryan said Matt Capps (shoulder) still has a chance to return later this season. |
Capps has made just two appearances since late June due to shoulder issues. It's not clear how far along he is in his rehab, but obviously the Twins haven't given up on him making a late-season impact. He almost surely wouldn't be used in save opportunities, though. |

Mon Aug 13 2012 | 20:10 | Matt Capps not close to throwing |
An MRI of Matt Capps' right shoulder has confirmed only inflammation, but he is not close to resuming throwing. |
It was reported Sunday that he would resume throwing Wednesday if the MRI showed no structural damage, but evidently that won't happen. Obviously Capps' timetable is up in the air, and he doesn't appear likely to make much of an impact over the rest of the season. |

Sun Aug 12 2012 | 11:06 | Matt Capps to receive MRI Sunday |
Matt Capps will receive an MRI on his ailing right shoulder Sunday. |
An MRI back in June just showed inflammation, but the Twins want Capps to get looked at again after he's been unable to get over the hump with his shoulder ailment. The right-hander has yet to resume throwing but could conceivably be cleared soon if the MRI shows no structural damage. |

Wed Jul 18 2012 | 19:55 | Matt Capps will be out 'a while' |
Twins general manager Terry Ryan said Matt Capps (shoulder) will be shut down "for a while." |
He didn't specify anything more than that, but obviously he'll be on the disabled list much longer than 15 days. Capps recently had a setback with a shoulder injury that he's dealt with for over a month, and he's no sure thing to return at all this year. There's no reason to hang on to him in mixed leagues. |

Tue Jul 17 2012 | 19:51 | Matt Capps (shoulder) heads back to DL |
Twins placed RHP Matt Capps on the 15-day disabled list with right rotator cuff irritation. |
Capps made just two appearances since returning from the DL, and he's headed back there after feeling more soreness in his appearance Monday. An MRI will likely be performed before more is known about how long he'll be sidelined. Obviously, he's no longer an option to be moved before the trade deadline. The Twins will continue to give save chances to Glen Perkins and Jared Burton. |

Fri Jul 13 2012 | 08:49 | Matt Capps to be eased back into closer role |
The Twins are expected to ease Matt Capps back into his closer role. |
Glen Perkins and Jared Burton have fared pretty well since Capps went on the disabled list last month, converting 6-of-7 save chances. They'll continue to be used in the ninth inning while Capps knocks the rust off, but the Twins no doubt hope Capps can settle back into his old role quickly and build up his trade value. |

Capps hasn't pitched since last Friday due to some minor shoulder inflammation but felt good during a bullpen session Wednesday. "He went out and threw some in the 'pen and felt a lot better," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "So probably give him another day. That's our preference. It could change as we go along." Jared Burton and Glen Perkins will be used in the eighth and ninth innings until Capps is ready. |

Sat Jun 16 2012 | 00:21 | Capps allows game winning HR vs. Brewers |
Matt Capps allowed a game-winning two-run home run to the Brewers' Martin Maldonado in the ninth inning on Friday. |
It's only the third time he's been scored upon in his last 17 outings, so he isn't in any danger of losing his grip on the closer's job. This kind of outing should be expected from time to time with Capps, as he pitches to contact and doesn't possess overpowering stuff. |

Tue Jun 12 2012 | 23:28 | Twins now 10-3 in last 13 games |
Matt Capps tossed a scoreless ninth in a non-save situation to help the Twins down the Phillies on Tuesday. |
Nick Blackburn and Brian Duensing combined to give up seven runs in 5 1/3 innings, but Minnesota's offense and remaining relievers were up to the challenge in the 11-7 victory. Minnesota is now 10-3 in their last 13 games. Capps is the epitome of a player with fantasy value solely because of his role. Only a slight-above average reliever, he has 14 saves and a 2.96 ERA. He has a great 1.00 WHIP and has walked only three batters in 23 1/3 innings, but his average stuff has led to only 14 strikeouts. |
