Mon Jul 29 201323:25Kyle Blanks not close to returning
Kyle Blanks (Achilles) is not close to returning to the Padres.
"It's bothersome, sore," Padres manager Bud Black said Monday of Blanks' Achilles tendons. "The doctors looked at him today and said it would be a couple of weeks. I'm not sure if that means he'll play in a big-league game in two weeks or if it means he can put on his spikes. Honestly, I don't think he'll be in the lineup in two weeks." Blanks has been sidelined since mid-July, and it appears it will be at least well into August before he returns.

Sun Jul 28 201310:43Mariners interested in Kyle Blanks
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Mariners are interested in Kyle Blanks.
The problem is that Blanks is dealing with tendinitis in both Achilles tendons and has no timetable for a return. The outfielder/first baseman is also making just $605,000 this season and is under team control through 2015, so it remains to be seen if the Padres would have any interest in dealing him.

Wed Jul 24 201321:10Kyle Blanks won't return when eligible
Kyle Blanks (Achilles) will not return from the disabled list when first eligible on Saturday.
Blanks has been out since mid-July with tendinitis in both Achilles tendons, and it doesn't sound like he'll return anytime soon. "There is no timetable on him going out for a rehab assignment," said Padres manager Bud Black. "This hasn't gone as quick as I thought," Blanks added. "I'm gaining ground. Actually, the left ankle feels better than the right."

Fri Jul 12 201318:49Padres place Kyle Blanks on disabled list
Padres placed OF Kyle Blanks on the 15 day disabled list with Achilles tendinitis.
With Yonder Alonso and Jedd Gyorko coming back from the disabled list, Blanks was looking at a large decrease in his plating time regardless of the injury. He had cooled in recent weeks, hitting just .154 (6-for-39) with 12 strikeouts since June 29. Once he's healthy, he'll surely get another opportunity with the Padres at some point this summer.

Fri Jul 12 201318:32Blanks not listed on roster for Padres
Kyle Blanks is not listed on the Padres' roster for Friday's game.
It's unclear whether he has been optioned to Triple-A or if another move has been made, such as a possible trip to the disabled list. Either way, he has been cleared with the Padres bringing Yonder Alonso and Jedd Gyorko back from the disabled list. There should be an official announcement on Blanks' status soon.

Wed Jul 10 201321:31Blanks in prolonged slump since late June
Kyle Blanks hasn't logged a multi-hit game since June 24.
On that day, Blanks finished 4-for-5, raising his batting average to .285. He's batted .170/.170/.234 with a 14/0 K/BB rate over 47 plate appearances in 12 games since. Perhaps it's not a surprise that the Padres are 2-10 in those contests. Yank Blanks from your mixed league lineup until he turns things around.

Tue Jun 25 201302:07Blanks the hero in Monday's wild win vs. PHI
Kyle Blanks played the role of hero Monday night, knocking in three runs in the last two innings and scoring the game-tying run in a wild 4-3, 10-frame victory against the Phillies.
Blanks finished 4-for-5, raising his batting average (.285) 16 points in the process. San Diego's offense was more quiet than Teller prior to Blanks' two-run single off Jonathan Papelbon in the ninth inning, which cut Philly's lead to 3-2. Blanks later scored on Carlos Ruiz' passed ball. The big man singled in the 10th with the bases loaded to send San Diego to another come-from-behind-victory.

Kyle Blanks hit a tiebreaking three-run home run in the eighth inning of Sunday's win over the Diamondbacks.
Blanks was the Padres' entire offense outside of a solo shot by Will Venable. He's now homered in back-to-back games after going 2-for-4 with a home run on Saturday. Blanks is batting .281/.365/.511 though his first 145 plate appearances.

Sun Jun 16 201301:26Blanks goes 2-for-4 with a homer and 2 runs
Kyle Blanks went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored Saturday in a win against the Snakes.
The surprisingly athletic 6-foot-6, 264-pounder played left field, right field and first base in the game. The 26-year-old outfielder has rewarded San Diego for the everyday at-bats he's been receiving, and now boasts a .282/.368/.496 batting line in 131 at-bats this season. As long as he keeps raking, Blanks is usable in mixed leagues.

Kyle Blanks launched a two-run homer Saturday in the Padres' defeat of the Rockies.
Blanks hit his two-run shot in the top of the fourth inning and added a double in the top of the seventh. The 26-year-old outfielder has been on fire lately and now boasts a .300/.383/.527 batting line in 39 total games this season. He's a definite post-hype sleeper.

Blanks crushed a two-run homer into the left field seats in the top of the second inning and later added an RBI single in the fifth. The 26-year-old is now batting .292/.374/.491 through 38 games this season. With Yonder Alonso (hand) expected to miss around a month, hopefully more starts at first base are in Blanks' future.

Fri Jun 7 201317:12Blanks starting at first base Friday
Kyle Blanks is starting at first base Friday against the Rockies.
It will be his third start at first base this season. With Yonder Alonso (hand) on the disabled list, hopefully we'll see a lot more of them in the coming days. However, Padres manager Bud Black figures to give plenty of playing time to Mark Kotsay and Jesus Guzman, too.

Thu Jun 6 201317:46Blanks remains on Padres' roster
Kyle Blanks remains on the Padres' active roster.
The Padres originally planned to send Blanks down to the minors when Cameron Maybin was activated from the disabled list Thursday, but they have decided to put Yonder Alonso (wrist) on the disabled list instead. Blanks is batting .273/.362/.434 with four home runs and 16 RBI in 116 plate appearances this season and should continue to see playing time between first base and the outfield.

Thu Jun 6 201313:52Padres option Kyle Blanks to Triple-A Tucson
Padres optioned OF Kyle Blanks to Triple-A Tuscon.
Blanks has posted a decent .273/.362/.434 batting line in 116 plate appearances this season in the major leagues, but the Padres needed to clear a spot for Cameron Maybin. Blanks should be back up in a couple of weeks.

Wed Jun 5 201301:21Kyle Blanks homers, scores three times
Kyle Blanks went 2-for-3 with a homer, a walk and three runs scored against the Dodgers on Tuesday.
He also made a nice running catch of a Hanley Ramirez liner to right field. For a young guy who isn't getting consistent playing time, Blanks is doing a nice job for the Padres, hitting .277 with four homers and 16 RBI in 94 at-bats. We suspect he'd prove to be a more valuable player than Carlos Quentin if given the chance.

Wed May 15 201316:01Kyle Blanks homers for Padres
Starting for the first time in five days, Kyle Blanks homered and walked Wednesday against the Orioles.
Carlos Quentin will probably prove to be a better hitter than Blanks this season, but there's no doubt the Padres would have been better off starting Blanks regularly in his place over the first month and a half. Quentin did have a hit today, though: his popup to shallow right got lost in the sun by Ryan Flaherty. If only he had run it out rather than sulked, he would have had a double instead of a single.

Mon Apr 22 201321:48Kyle Blanks available to play
Kyle Blanks (shoulder) is not in the lineup Monday.
He should be available off the bench, though. Blanks banged up his left shoulder and suffered a cut above his left eye when he collided with the outfield wall Sunday. He'll be fine, but, unfortunately for him, Carlos Quentin will be back from suspension Tuesday, so he'll go back to the bench.

Sun Apr 21 201319:36Blanks needs four stitches after collision
Kyle Blanks needed four stitches above his left eye as a result of his sunglasses cutting him during a collision with the outfield wall in Sunday's loss to the Giants.
Blanks is considered day-to-day for now, but a stint on the 15-day disabled list can't be ruled out. The Padres were giving Blanks an extended look in left field prior to the injury. He went 0-for-2 before being removed.

Sun Apr 21 201318:04Kyle Blanks exits game with shoulder injury
Kyle Blanks left Sunday's game with an apparent left shoulder injury.
Blanks ran into the outfield wall face-first making a catch and had to be removed from the game. The Padres should provide an update on his status soon.

Thu Apr 18 201301:52Kyle Blanks hits first homer in win
Kyle Blanks went 2-for-3 and hit his first home run of the year Wednesday off the Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw.
Blanks is worthy of a long look, but he's only up right now because Carlos Quentin got suspended. There's not going to be much room for him after Quentin returns, but odds are that Quentin will spend some time on the DL later on.
