Wed Mar 4 201511:54Gentry will platoon in center field with Sam Fuld
Gentry will platoon in center field with Sam Fuld, reports Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
With Coco Crisp moving to left field, this opens up center field for the defensively gifted Gentry and Sam Fuld platoon. Gentry is on the side of the platoon where he won't see as many at-bats as Fuld, but one would guess that Fuld will not hit enough to play against every righty. Gentry only had 232 at-bats in 2014 due to a myriad of injuries, but was still able to swipe 20 bases in only 22 attempts when he was on the field.
Thu Jan 15 201522:24Gentry agreed to one-year
Gentry agreed to a one-year, $1.6 million contract with the Athletics on Thursday, Jon Morosi of Fox Sports reports.
Gentry missed the final couple months of the season due to a hand injury and a concussion. He finished the campaign with a .254/.319/.289 batting line with 12 RBI and 20 stolen bases, failing to hit a ball out of the park. He figures to be the top reserve outfielder in 2015 behind Sam Fuld in left, Coco Crisp in center and Josh Reddick in right.

Gentry (concussion) took batting practice Monday, the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser reports.
He has slowly progressed, and it looks like he could possibly be used as a defensive replacement in the wild card game or possibly take on an expanded role if the A's are able to advance.

Gentry (concussion) hit off a tee and will shag fly balls prior to Friday's game, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
According to the report, Gentry is feeling "immensely" better, after experiencing headaches and exhaustion for several weeks after suffering the concussion. It's great news, but it's uncertain whether Gentry would be able to play in a postseason series, though he said he's going to do all he can to try to be ready.

Gentry (concussion) is viewed as a "long shot" to play again this season, John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group reports.
This report doesn't officially rule Gentry out for the playoffs, but it does seem that that outfielder won't be able to contribute much more during the regular season. The 30-year-old hasn't played since Sept. 9, posting a .254/.319/.289 slash line on year. He does have 20 stolen bases, but it remains to be seen if the As will be comfortable enough to deploy his prowess on the basepaths if they make the postseason.

Gentry (concussion) has not been cleared to play but is feeling better of late, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Genry has been out since Sept. 9 and it remains to be seen whether or not he'll return to action in 2014. His headaches have reduced and he has more energy, but Gentry is yet to resume any sort of baseball activities, so a return before the end of the season still seems like somewhat of a longshot.
Sun Sep 21 201414:36Gentry's concussion recovery hasn't been going as planned
Gentry's concussion recovery hasn't been going as planned, and he risks missing the remainder of the regular season, Ron Kroichick of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Gentry has been out of action since Sept. 9, and considering the fact that he has yet to resume baseball activities, it appears unlikely that he'll return prior to the conclusion of the regular season. The As are just barely hanging on to an AL Wild Card spot at the moment, and if they end up advancing to the playoffs, there's a chance Gentry could be available as early as the ALDS. Until then, look for Coco Crisp to start whenever he's able, with Sam Fuld also seeing extra work in the outfield.
Fri Sep 19 201418:50Gentry (concussion) still hasn't resumed any baseball activities
Gentry (concussion) still hasn't resumed any baseball activities, Joe Stiglich of CSN California reports.
Gentry has been shut down for well over a week now as a result of a concussion, suffered in a collision with White Sox second baseman Carlos Sanchez. With no timetable for him to start back up with baseball activities, a return this season for Gentry is looking iffy, at best.

Gentry (concussion) remains out of the lineup Friday against the Phillies, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.
Gentry will miss his ninth straight start Friday, and it's uncertain whether he'll be available in any capacity for the final two games against Philadelphia. The 30-year-old is battling sinus issues on top of his lingering concussion symptoms.

Gentry is now dealing with sinus issues in addition to his lingering concussion symptoms, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.
It's been a week now since Gentry suffered a concussion in a collision with White Sox second baseman Carlos Sanchez, and it sounds like he's yet to completely shake the cobwebs. There is no set timetable for Gentry's return to action, but manager Bob Melvin did confirm that he will not be available off the bench Tuesday.

Gentry (concussion) rod the exercise bike for the second straight day and reported feeling better, Joe Stiglich of CSN California reports.
Gentry is making progress toward returning from the concussion he suffered Tuesday, but will need to be cleared before being able to return to the lineup. Even when he returns, Gentry probably won't see everyday action in the outfield.

Gentry (concussion) remains out of the lineup Thursday against the White Sox, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Although Gentry reported feeling a little better Wednesday, a day after suffering a concussion in a collision with second baseman Carlos Sanchez, he'll need to be cleared through league protocol before returning to action.

Gentry (concussion) reported feeling a little better but is not available to play Wednesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
This comes as no surprise, as Gentry was diagnosed with a concussion after colliding with White Sox second baseman Carlos Sanchez on Tuesday. Manager Bob Melvin said Gentry is still dealing with aftereffects from the concussion, and he will need to be fully cleared through league protocol before returning to action.
Tue Sep 9 201422:34Craig Gentry: Leaves With Concussion
Gentry has been diagnosed with a concussion, the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser reports.
He left Tuesday's game after colliding with White Sox second baseman Carlos Sanchez, as his head made contact with Sanchez's shoulder. He walked off under his own power, but was visibly shaken up. There's a good chance we won't see Gentry for a week or more, depending on how quickly he moves through the league's concussion protocol. In most formats there will be better options over the final three weeks than Gentry, who was a part-time player to begin with.

Gentry left midway through Tuesday's game after colliding with White Sox second baseman Carlos Sanchez, possibly suffering a head injury, USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports.
He walked off under his own power but looked shaken up. It's possible he just got the wind knocked out of him, but his head may have collided with Sanchez's shoulder, so a concussion is also possible. Consider him day-to-day for now, and we'll update his status when the A's specify on Gentry's injury.

Gentry (hand) was activated from the 15-day DL on Friday and is expected to be in the A's lineup against the Angels.
He began a rehab assignment at Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, and hit .267 in four games. The A's will find modest playing time for Gentry now that he's healthy, and he offers speed (18 steals in 218 plate appearances) with a .250-.280 batting average for those in deeper leagues.

Gentry (hand) is scheduled to start a rehab assignment at Triple-A Sacramento on Monday.
It's unclear exactly how much time Gentry will require at the affiliate in order to prove his health, but the outfielder has already spent more than three weeks on the disabled list recovering from a non-displaced fracture in his right hand.
Wed Aug 13 201418:37Gentry (hand) has progressed to hitting off tee
Gentry (hand) has progressed to hitting off a tee, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
There was some hope Gentry would miss as little as two weeks after suffering a non-displaced fracture in his hand last month, but he has already missed more than two weeks and just received clearance to resume swinging. Gentry will have to gradually increase his activity from here, though it looks like he should still be able to get into rehab games before the minor league season ends.
Sun Aug 10 201414:59Gentry (hand) hopes to hit off tee Monday
Gentry (hand) hopes to hit off a tee Monday, Joe Stiglich of CSN California reports.
Gentry will use the tee session as a measuring stick on how his hand is doing. He fractured his hand while attempting to bunt on July 28, but will make his first steps toward rejoining the A's. After the tee session, Gentry will likely participate and a BP session and either a simulated game or go on a rehab assignment before becoming available.
Mon Jul 28 201417:29Gentry (hand) hopes to return soon
Craig Gentry is dealing with a non-displaced fracture of his right hand and hopes to only miss a couple of weeks.
Gentry broke his hand on a bunt attempt Sunday, but it sounds like things could have been much worse under the circumstances. The A's have called up speedster Billy Burns for some outfield insurance with Coco Crisp (neck) also sidelined.
