Mon Jul 28 201417:04Craig Gentry placed on DL with broken hand
Athletics placed OF Craig Gentry on the 15-day disabled list with a broken right hand.
Ouch. Gentry presumably broke his hand on a bunt attempt Sunday. The A's have called up prospect outfielder Billy Burns to take his place on the active roster, but they are going to have to hope that Coco Crisp's neck issue isn't serious. Gentry is obviously going to be sidelined for a while.

Sun Jul 6 201422:17Gentry has RBI, run scored in win over Jays
Craig Gentry went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's win over the Blue Jays.
Gentry had his second straight two-hit day, as he's raised his average from .273 to .286 over the past two games. Gentry isn't a run producer -- he has yet to hit a home run, and Sunday's RBI was just his sixth of the year -- but he's scored 30 runs in 66 games and has 15 steals in 15 chances. His speed still makes him a viable asset in AL-only leagues.

Sun Jun 22 201421:03Gentry steals two bases in loss to Red Sox
Craig Gentry stole two bases and scored a run in Sunday's loss to the Red Sox.
Gentry didn't have a hit in three at-bats, but he made things happen with his legs. After getting hit by a pitch in the eighth inning, Gentry stole second base and then third off Red Sox catcher David Ross. He came in to score on a Yoenis Cespedes single. The outfielder is now a perfect 15-for-15 in stolen base attempts and is a nice player to own in AL-only leagues.

Sun May 11 201420:46Gentry has two hits, stolen base against Nats
Craig Gentry went 2-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in a win over the Nationals on Sunday.
Gentry began the year on the disabled list, but he's been a nice contributor for the A's since being activated on April 12. The outfielder is hitting .284/.360/.373 with six stolen bases and 14 runs scored in 26 games. When Coco Crisp has been out of the lineup Gentry has also batted atop the A's lineup, another plus for the 30-year-old.

Craig Gentry (back) will begin the season on the disabled list.
The glacial pace at which Gentry recovered from the lower back strain he suffered in late February forced skipper Bob Melvin's hand. Gentry is aiming for a mid-April return. This revelation is probably good news for Michael Taylor, who is out of options.

Craig Gentry (back) and Ryan Cook (shoulder) remain question marks for the Opening Day roster, reports the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser, but both will be ready to return early in the season if not.
Gentry has been slow to recover from a lower back strain. Cook's shoulder inflammation may keep him out until the middle of next month. Whenever he returns, he'll serve as the primary setup man to new Oakland closer Jim Johnson. They'll aid in each other's recovery Wednesday when Gentry hits off Cook in batting practice.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Friday that Craig Gentry (back) is close to taking batting practice.
He's slowly making progress in his recovery from a lower back strain, but his availability for Opening Day remains in question. The speedy outfielder is likely to see a decent amount of playing time in the A's outfield this season, and his speed makes him a worthwhile target in the later stages of AL-only and mixed league drafts.
