Tue Feb 21 201212:01Mattingly confirms Guerra is likely to close
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly confirmed Tuesday that Javy Guerra is likely to open 2012 at closer.
"I'm going into camp thinking Javy is the guy," Mattingly told reporters at spring training in Arizona. Kenley Jansen has superb raw stuff and dominated batters last season, but Guerra was also excellent to the tune of a 2.38 ERA and 38/18 K/BB ratio in 46 2/3 frames. They should both carry significant fantasy value this year.

Mon Feb 13 201216:35Guerra likely the favorite to close for LAD
Buster Olney of ESPN.com writes that while Javy Guerra is "probably the frontrunner" to be the Dodgers' closer at the start of the season, Kenley Jensen is also a possibility.
Nothing groundbreaking here. Guerra came out of nowhere last season to post a 2.38 ERA, 21 saves and a 38/18 K/BB ratio over 46 2/3 innings, but Jensen has already shown he can be an elite late-inning reliever. Both should be on the radar in mixed leagues, but Jensen will likely end up being the better value.

Wed Sep 28 201106:22Guerra blows save, takes 2nd loss of season
Javy Guerra could not protect a 6-2 lead on Tuesday, surrendering a walk and a grand slam to hand the Diamondbacks a 7-6 win.
The Dodgers would have prevailed 6-1 if not for Aaron Miles' fielding error with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning. Guerra was summoned with the bases loaded and served up only his second homer in 46 2/3 innings. Having pitched the last three games, Guerra is likely done for the season. But with a 2.31 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 21 saves in 23 chances, he certainly could be viewed as the Dodgers' frontrunner for next season's closer job -- particularly if Jonathan Broxton is not re-signed.

Fri Sep 2 201123:20Billingsley knocked around by Braves
Chad Billingsley was knocked around by the Braves Friday but picked up a no-decision, giving up five runs - three earned - on nine hits and three walks over four innings of work in the 8-6 win.
Billingsley's defense didn't help him out, but he simply wasn't sharp in this one. The right-hander has now posted three straight non-quality starts and has allowed at least four runs in six of his last nine outings to push his ERA all the way up to 4.15 and WHIP to 1.45. He'll try to rebound next week against the Nationals.

Wed Aug 31 201101:31Guerra collects his 12th save Tuesday
Javy Guerra collected his 12th save Tuesday with a scoreless inning against the Padres.
He gave up a hit and struck out a batter. Guerra has been a revelation this season, blowing only one save and emerging as the one sure-thing in Los Angeles' revolving door of a bullpen. His ERA is down to 2.20 and his WHIP is at 1.16.

Sat Aug 20 201121:55Javy Guerra blows first save
Javy Guerra was charged with his first blown save after giving up two runs in the 12th inning Saturday against the Rockies.
The Dodgers surely thought they had this won after unlikely homers from Aaron Miles (just his second of the season) and Trent Oeltjen (an inside-the-park shot) in the top of the 12th, but Guerra, who had been 10-for-10 saving games, couldn't hold the lead. His ERA jumped from 1.82 to 2.35.

Sat Aug 6 201113:34Javy Guerra nails down 10th
Javy Guerra collected his 10th save Friday with 1 1/3 scoreless innings against the Diamondbacks.
Guerra came on to strike out Gerardo Parra in the eighth before notching two more strikeouts in the ninth. We continue to be underwhelmed by his stuff, but Guerra has converted all 10 of his save chances and holds a nifty 1.69 ERA and 1.16 WHIP for the season. His job is very safe right now.

Sun Jul 24 201119:24Javy Guerra stays perfect, records save again
Javy Guerra pitched a perfect ninth inning against the Nationals Sunday to earn his seventh save in seven chances.
Over his last six outings, Guerra is 1-0 with five saves and a 0.00 ERA. While the Dodgers won't officially name Guerra their closer, he sure looks like one. The 25-year-old is reaching the mid-90s on the radar gun while showing no signs of his inexperience. There's no question anymore that Guerra is the man to own in this bullpen.

Wed Jul 20 201118:40Javy Guerra notches sixth save
Javy Guerra pitched a perfect ninth Wednesday to earn his sixth save against the Giants.
Guerra came into a 1-0 game and retired Pablo Sandoval, Cody Ross and Brandon Belt in order. It's the first time in a month that he's thrown a perfect inning, but he's now 6-for-6 saving games for the Dodgers.

Sat Jul 16 201101:05Javy Guerra notches fifth save for Dodgers
After Hong-Chih Kuo started the ninth, Javy Guerra got one out Friday against the Diamondbacks for his fifth save.
Kuo came into a 6-4 game and retired two of the three batters he faced, walking the man in between. With Xavier Nady up next, the Dodgers made the switch to the right-handed Guerra. Nady got a single anyway, but Guerra struck out pinch-hitter Brandon Allen to end the game.

Sat Jul 9 201101:17Javy Guerra notches save for Dodgers
Javy Guerra was called on to pitch the ninth in a 1-0 game against the Padres on Friday and worked his way out of a bases-loaded jam for his third save.
He gave up a double to Cameron Maybin and then hit the next two batters he faced before striking out Kyle Phillips and Will Venable and getting Jason Bartlett to line out to center to end the game. Guerra looks like the favorite for saves in L.A. right now. Too bad they only seem to generate a closing opportunity once every other week. Guerra's previous saves came on May 25 and June 19. He had pitched just four times since that last save opp, allowing one run over four innings. We're not particularly impressed by him, but he has a 2.45 ERA in 18 1/3 innings since being called up.
