Fri Jan 17 201419:12Ruggiano and Cubs swap arbitration numbers
Justin Ruggiano requested $2.45 million and was offered $1.6 million from the Cubs when arbitration figures were exchanged on Friday.
Aside from a brutal stretch in the middle of the season, the 31-year-old outfielder was fairly productive for the Marlins in 2013. He owns a dazzling combination of power and speed and should be an attractive fantasy option as long as he earns everyday at-bats for the Cubs.

Thu Dec 12 201309:44Cubs acquire OF Ruggiano from Marlins
Cubs acquired OF Justin Ruggiano from the Marlins for OF Brian Bogusevic.
Ruggiano is coming off a down year in which he batted .222/.298/.396 in 128 games, but he hit 15 out of his 18 home runs on the road. The opportunity for playing time should be there with the Cubs and he could rebound in a more hitter-friendly environment.

Wed Dec 11 201308:46Fish listening to offers for Justin Ruggiano
MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports that the Marlins are listening to offers for outfielder Justin Ruggiano.
Ruggiano is arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter and the penny-pinching Fish want to see if they can move him for some rebuilding parts or to fill their vacancy at third base. The 31-year-old had 18 homers and 15 stolen bases in 128 games this past season, but he also batted just .222 with a .298 on-base percentage.

Justin Ruggiano went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in the Marlins' loss to the Phillies on Tuesday.

Sun Sep 22 201322:40Ruggiano belts 18th homer in loss to Nats
Justin Ruggiano belted his 18th home run of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Marlins dropped the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader against the Nationals.
The solo blast off Stephen Strasburg in the second inning was the only hit for Ruggiano in his four trips to the plate on the night. Despite hitting just .223/.296/.403, the 31-year-old outfielder has been useful in most fantasy formats thanks to his combination of power and speed which has generated 18 homers and 14 stolen bases on the season in 121 games.

Fri Aug 16 201322:56Ruggiano blasts two homers in loss to Giants
Justin Ruggiano blasted a pair of home runs and drove home four, but it still wasn't enough to overcome the Giants on Friday.
Ruggiano finished the night 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBI. He entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the fourth inning, where he promptly homered off Chad Gaudin. His second blast was a solo shot off Barry Zito in the ninth to cap the scoring for the Marlins. After an 0-for-43 stretch, Ruggiano has now turned in consecutive three-hit efforts.

Wed Aug 14 201317:51Justin Ruggiano ends 0-for-42 skid in victory
Justin Ruggiano snapped his 0-for-42 skid by going 3-for-4 with an RBI in the Marlins' 5-2 defeat of the Royals on Wednesday.
Ruggiano was promptly caught stealing after his first single, but he made up for it with a couple of more knocks later on. The hits were his first since July 8. He's a candidate to be traded this month if anyone thinks he'd be an asset off the bench. Obviously, he looked like more of one a couple of months ago than he does now.

Mon Jul 8 201320:39Justin Ruggiano drawing interest
Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that the Marlins have received inquiries about Justin Ruggiano.
Rodriguez says the Marlins "aren't actively shopping" Ruggiano and aren't "all that motivated" to trade him at this point. Of course, Ruggiano will be arbitration-eligible over the winter and will be further squeezed out of the outfield picture when Christian Yelich arrives, so a deal certainly can't be ruled out. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal has reported that the Yankees and Rangers are potential suitors for him.

Wed Jul 3 201322:21Ruggiano doubles, homers Marlins past Braves
Justin Ruggiano went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI as the Marlins beat the Braves on Wednesday.
Ruggiano's ability was on full display Wednesday, as he hit his 12th home run and also stole his ninth base in the game. He batted leadoff, a spot where he was inserted recently with some success. Continuing to hit leadoff could marginally appreciate his fantasy value.

Tue Jun 25 201321:41Justin Ruggiano scratched from lineup
Justin Ruggiano was scratched from Tuesday's lineup with a sore left shoulder.
Ruggiano suffered the injury while diving for a ball over the weekend. Marlins manager Mike Redmond isn't sure how long the outfielder will be sidelined. "We'll see if it's a short-term deal, long-term deal or what," said Redmond. "We'll just have to play it by ear."

Wed Jun 19 201318:38Justin Ruggiano homers against Arizona
Justin Ruggiano went 2-for-4 and homered for the Marlins' only run Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.
The homer came off former teammate Heath Bell in the ninth. It's the third straight start in which Ruggiano has collected two hits. Unfortunately, those three games have been spread out over 11 days. He's in line for more at-bats while he's hot, but the Marlins will probably go primarily with their younger outfielders as the season progresses

Mon May 27 201319:03Justin Ruggiano homers in loss to Rays
Justin Ruggiano launched his eighth home run of the season in Monday's loss to the Rays.
It was a solo shot. Ruggiano finished the day 1-for-5 with three strikeouts and left seven men on base. While the 31-year-old outfielder has done his part in the power and speed departments thus far, he's hitting just .217 with a .293 on base percentage through 47 games. He could lose his starting job if (or when) the Marlins deem top prospect Christian Yelich ready for the majors.

Fri May 17 201303:33Ruggiano strikes out as pinch-hitter in loss
Justin Ruggiano struck out as a pinch-hitter in Thursday's 5-3, extra-innings loss to the Reds.
Since May 6, he has just three hits, dropping his average to .216. After breaking out in 2012 as a 30-year-old -- Ruggiano batted .313 with 13 homers, 14 steals and 36 RBI in 91 games -- he's plummeted back to earth. Ruggiano has a tantalizing combination of power and speed which he deploys seemingly at random. For instance, on May 5, in a 14-2 win over the Phils, Ruggiano blasted a pair of homers and stole a base. Since that time? He's slashed an unsightly .148/.258/.259 and has been caught stealing as many bases as he's swiped (one).

Fri Apr 19 201322:14Ruggiano's ninth inning blast downs Reds
Justin Ruggiano blasted a solo home run off Aroldis Chapman in the ninth inning on Friday, powering the Marlins to a 2-1 victory over the Reds.
It was Ruggiano's only hit in four trips to the plate on the evening, but far and away the biggest in the game. Working to prove that his 2012 season was no fluke, Ruggiano is now hitting .259/.310/.500 with three homers, nine RBI and three steals through his first 15 games. He remains a very attractive option as a third or fourth outfielder in mixed leagues due to his tantalizing combination of power and speed.

Thu Apr 18 201322:33Justin Ruggiano hits one out
Justin Ruggiano accounted for the Marlins' only run in Thursday's loss to the Reds, hitting a solo homer.
Tony Cingrani only throws fastballs and Ruggiano only hits fastballs, so it was a favorable matchup for the outfielder. He also had a single and drew a walk. Ruggiano entered the season in a platoon with Chris Coghlan, but he's outperfomed him and should draw the majority of starts.

Justin Ruggiano finished 2-for-4 with three RBI in the Marlins' win over the Nationals on Tuesday.
Ruggiano is clearly well past the groin tightness that bothered him last week. He's now batting .256/.304/.419 with one homer, seven RBI and three stolen bases.
