Tue May 29 201220:39Vance Worley could return June 4
Vance Worley (elbow) could rejoin the Phillies rotation June 4 against the Dodgers.
Worley threw 30 pitches in a bullpen session Tuesday with no issues and is scheduled for another bullpen session Friday. He could simply slide into Roy Halladay's (shoulder) spot in the rotation. "It feels like it's been some time," said Worley. "There's a little rust mechanically. I felt good, but the ball was a little flat, just because I haven't been able to get any angle to it, I hadn't been on the mound in [a while]."

Vance Worley (elbow) threw 30 pitches in a bullpen session Tuesday.
Worley remains encouraged by his progress, but there's no clear timetable for his return to the Phils' rotation. The 24-year-old right-hander will likely require surgery to address a bone chip is his elbow, but he will attempt to pitch through the ailment.

Mon May 28 201220:09Vance Worley 'not really feeling' bone chip
Vance Worley has made 70 throws from up to 120 feet over the last couple days, and said he's "not really feeling" the bone chip in his elbow.
"I haven't felt anything," Worley said. "The inflammation has gone down. It's made it to where I'm not really feeling the bone chip right now. Will it come back? I don't know. If it does ... I don't have a choice." Worley will pitch through the ailment even if he does start feeling the chip again (which seems likely). He could wind up taking Roy Halladay's (shoulder) spot in the rotation if Doc needs a DL stint.

Thu May 24 201218:10Worley (elbow) plays catch Thursday
Vance Worley (elbow) said he was pain-free playing catch Thursday.
Worley visited Dr. James Andrews earlier this week, who confirmed the Phillies' diagnosis of a bone chip and inflammation in his elbow. The 24-year-old right-hander may require offseason surgery, but he'll try to pitch through the condition for now. He's slated to play catch again Friday and will slowly ramp up his throwing program from there.

Sun May 20 201214:10Vance Worley has bone chip in elbow
Vance Worley has been diagnosed with a bone chip in his right elbow that will likely require offseason surgery.
For now, Worley will gut it out and pitch through the pain. "Man up," he said. "That's the only thing I can do. I'll just grit and grind out there." While that likely means that Worley should be ready for activation when eligible or shortly after, it's hard to believe his results won't be affected by the ailment. He'll test out the elbow by resuming throwing later this week.

Fri May 11 201221:33Worley strong, fans 9 in win over Padres
Vance Worley delivered a strong performance against the Padres on Friday, allowing three runs on six hits over six innings of work.
He struck out nine and walked just two in the game. He ran into a bit of trouble in the fourth, allowing the Padres to string together a few hits and score twice, then surrendered a solo homer to Yonder Alonso in the sixth. With the victory, Worley improves to 3-2 on the season and raises his ERA to 3.07. He owns a stellar 45/15 strikeout to walk ratio through his first 44 innings on the season. Sat May 5 201215:54Vance Worley struggles against Nats
Vance Worley wasn't sharp in a loss to the Nationals Saturday, surrendering five runs on 11 hits and two walks over six innings of work.
It's his worst outing of the season, and just his second non-quality start to this point. Worley was undone by a couple longballs, with the big one coming in the form of a three-run jack from Jayson Werth to kick off a four-run fifth innings. The right-hander will carry a still-terrific 2.84 ERA into next week's matchup against the Padres.

Wed Apr 25 201200:53Vance Worley strikes out six in victory
Vance Worley yielded one run in six innings Tuesday in a victory over the Diamondbacks.
A Cody Ransom homer was the only damage. Worley struck out six tonight and has a 27/9 K/BB ratio in 25 innings for the season. That he's allowed four homers despite largely facing weak offenses (his first three starts were against the Pirates, Mets and Padres) is the only red flag.

Worley will attempt to put this effort behind him and get back on track next week against the Padres in San Diego.

Sat Mar 17 201216:49Vance Worley goes four scoreless for Phils
Vance Worley held a Blue Jays split-squad scoreless for four innings in the Phillies' 4-3 victory Saturday.
Worley wasn't quite so outstanding today as he was when he struck out eight Pirates five days ago, but he got the job done against the better of the Jays' two split-squads (this one had 4 1/2 regulars). He allowed four hits, walked none and struck out three.

Wed Sep 21 201123:05Worley loses final start of 2011
Vance Worley took just his third loss of the season on Wednesday, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks in six innings of Philadelphia's 7-5 setback against the Nationals.
The non-quality start was just his fourth in 12 non-rain shortened outings since the All-Star break. It was also his final start of the season, as the Phillies will move him to bullpen, where he will pitch during the playoffs, for the season's final six days. Despite his excellent rookie campaign, Worley isn't a compelling option in keeper leagues.

Vance Worley pitched well in picking up a no-decision Friday, giving up just one run on six hits and three walks over six innings in an extra-innings loss to the Cardinals.
He struck out five. Worley's command was a little off in this one, but he still battled and came away with another quality start. Despite possessing far less than electric stuff, Worley has managed to maintain dominant numbers, posting a 2.85 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 7.9 K/9 rate over 123 innings. He'll get the Nationals next week.

Mon Sep 12 201112:21Worley likely to be moved to 'pen in October
Vance Worley is likely to be moved to the bullpen when the Phillies advance to the postseason.
Worley has posted a dazzling 11-2 record and 2.92 ERA in 117 innings this year for the first-place Phils, but he is -- quite incredibly -- not one of the team's top four starters. He should do well in an October long relief role.
