RHP Chad Bettis pitched into the seventh inning for the second straight start, allowing three runs on nine hits over six-plus innings with four strikeouts. The outing was a far cry from his first start of the season against the Diamondbacks on April 5, when he gave up five runs on seven hits and three walks in 5 1/3 innings.

RHP Chad Bettis threw a career-high 114 pitches as he allowed six hits and four runs in 6 2/3 innings. His previous high was 111 pitches at Oakland on July 1, 2015. Bettis has pitched at least six innings in four consecutive starts. Catcher Nick Hundley said, "I thought he used both sides of the plate really well. He attacked. He's our horse. He's the guy we look to. Whenever he's on the mound, we expect to win. The work that he puts in -- he's the leader of this staff."

RHP Chad Bettis allowed three straight hits, including back-to-back homers by Jay Bruce and Adam Duvall, to begin the second inning on Wednesday in Cincinnati. Aside from those three batters, Bettis was perfect. He retired the final 15 batters he faced.

RHP Chad Bettis made his first career start at Wrigley Field memorable on Friday as he allowed just three hits in a six-inning shutout stint as the Colorado Rockies cooled off the Chicago Cubs with a 6-1 victory. Bettis (2-0) walked three and struck out four. "He's really throwing the ball well," said Rockies manager Walt Weiss. "I love the way he competes. I love the tempo he works at and he executed pitches. He's got really good stuff to go along with the makeup that he has."

RHP Chad Bettis gave up five runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings hits while striking four and walking three. He staked to a 6-2 lead but was removed after giving up two hits and a walk to three of the first four batters in the sixth. "I definitely think I wasn't as efficient as wanted to be right there," Bettis said. "Towards the sixth I started yanking balls, balls started to get away from me a little bit more than earlier in the game. You could say I ran out of gas but what it comes down to is you got to make your pitches and that is not what happened."

Bettis (8-6) took the loss Wednesday, giving up an earned run over six hits and three walks while striking out six over six innings in a 3-1 loss to the Diamondbacks.
Bettis gave up an unearned run in the fifth inning on a passed ball and Phil Gosselin sacrifice fly, followed by a sixth inning earned run on a Jarrod Saltalamacchia RBI single. Unfortunately, the 66-92 Rockies were only able to offer Bettis minimal run support, resulting in his first loss since Sept. 5 -- a span including three quality starts. Bettis isn't exactly a prospect at 26 years old, but posted good enough numbers this season to likely hold down a rotation spot for Colorado in 2016.

Bettis turned in a quality start while not factoring into the decision in Thursday's 5-4 defeat to the Pirates. He lasted six innings and gave up two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five.
The no-decision ended Bettis' two-game winning streak, but it didn't change his standing as the Rockies' most reliable starter in the second half. Though that designation isn't saying much given the rotation's collective struggles this season, Bettis has at least proven himself to be a trustworthy commodity in NL-only formats. Since his 10-run blowup against the Angels on July 7, Bettis is 4-1 with a 3.57 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 40:17 K:BB ratio over 45.1 innings.

Bettis (8-5) pitched well again on Friday, as he allowed one run on four hits and a walk across five innings while striking out six in a win over the Padres.
Bettis is a very underrated pitcher for the Rockies and he's shown some very promising potential this season. If you take out a 10-run outing in July, his ERA would be at 3.68. A more impressive stat is that he's only allowed more than three runs five times this season. That may not sound special, but that's very good for a pitcher who has to toe the rubber at Coors Field in half of his starts. Bettis very well may be the best pitcher the Rockies have right now and they'll need him to continue to develop if they are to find any success in the future.

Bettis (7-5) was brilliant on Friday, striking out six over seven shutout innings while allowing just three hits and three walks in a win over the Mariners.
Bettis has established himself as one of the Rockies best pitchers and this is now his second seven-inning shutout this season. The 4.59 ERA on the season can be blamed to a couple of Coors Field blow-up starts and that alone will keep him out of standard mixed league relevancy. He'll look to continue this form against San Diego next Friday.

Bettis (6-5) struggled Saturday, allowing four earned runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out one over 4.1 innings in a 7-3 loss to the Giants.
Bettis started the year on an encouraging note, notching quality starts in five of his first six outings. Hitters have since figured him out, however, resulting in a gaudy 1.46 WHIP. Colorado doesn't have anyone better to replace him with in the rotation, so he'll likely continue receiving starts as the Rockies finish the season.

Bettis allowed four runs on 11 hits over six innings Monday against the Diamondbacks in a no decision. He struck out four and didn't walk a batter.
Bettis managed to avoid a blowup thanks to his control (28 balls in 92 pitches), but he was too hittable in the strike zone. Bettis has just two quality starts in his last six outings with a poor 27:15 K:BB, and he has seen his ERA jump from 3.56 to 4.78 in that span.

Bettis was sharp in his return to action Tuesday, giving up one run on five hits and two walks while striking out four in five innings against the Braves.
This was the righty's first start since July 18 as he returned from right elbow inflammation. The bar to clear in order to stick in the Rockies' rotation is quite low, so as long as he stays healthy Bettis should remain in the mix for the rest of the season. He will have to take the ball in Coors Field in his next start Monday against the Diamondbacks.

Bettis (elbow) was activated from the DL to start Tuesday's game against the Braves.
The 26-year-old right-hander will oppose Mike Foltynewicz in Atlanta after missing more than five weeks with elbow inflammation. Bettis hasn't enjoyed much more success on the road (4.54 ERA) than he has at Coors Field (5.18 ERA) this season, but he's averaging a career-best 7.7 K/9 and the Braves rank 27th in baseball over the past 30 days in wRC+.

Rockies manager Walt Weiss confirmed that Bettis (elbow) is scheduled to start Tuesday's game in Atlanta, Dargan Southard of MLB.com reports.
Bettis struck out seven batters over five scoreless innings in Thursday's rehab start for Triple-A Albuquerque. He'll start off with a favorable matchup on the road, but his following two starts will likely come at Coors Field against the Diamondbacks and then Giants.

Bettis (elbow) could rejoin the Rockies' rotation as soon as Tuesday, Nick Groke of the Denver Post reports.
Bettis shined in his five-inning rehab start Thursday for Triple-A Albuquerque, striking out seven batters while keeping the opposition off the board. With his right elbow inflammation seemingly a thing of the past, Bettis returned to Coors Field on Saturday to meet up with the big club and could soon force the Rockies to implement a six-man rotation. The team is looking to reduce the workload on rookie Jon Gray down the stretch, and the addition of Bettis to the rotation would allow the Rockies to accomplish as much.

Bettis (elbow) covered five innings and didn't allow a run during a rehab start with Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday.
Bettis struck out seven batters and generally looked very sharp in the outing, which could result in his activation from the DL at some point next week. At this point, the Rockies haven't decided yet if Bettis' next start will come in the majors or at Triple-A, so those in NL-only leagues who roster the right-hander will likely want to monitor his status in the coming days before activating him.

Bettis (elbow) tossed a successful three-inning simulated game Tuesday, the Associated Press reports.
With Bettis checking out fine during the session, he'll now begin a rehab assignment, with his first start coming Saturday for Double-A New Britain. He's expected to return from the disabled list before the month draws to a close.

Bettis (elbow) will join Double-A New Britain on Tuesday to throw a simulated game, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.
Bettis will advance to the next phase of his rehab after tossing a 48-pitch bullpen session Friday, during which he was able to throw all of his pitches. If Tuesday's simulated game goes well, Bettis would then stick around with New Britain to begin a rehab assignment next weekend. He'll likely be back in the Colorado rotation in the final week of August.
Sat Aug 8 201506:50Chad Bettis: (Elbow) Could Return at End of August
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Chad Bettis will join Double-A New Britain on Tuesday to throw a simulated game as he continues to recover from an elbow injury, according to the Denver Post.
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Chad Bettis will join Double-A New Britain on Tuesday to throw a simulated game as he continues to recover from an elbow injury, according to the Denver Post. Bettis will advance to the next phase of his rehab after throwing a 48-pitch bullpen session Friday, during which he was able to throw all of his pitches. If Tuesday's simulated game goes well, Bettis would then stay with New Britain to begin a rehab assignment as early as next weekend. Assuming no setbacks, he could return to the big club by the end of the month. "This is probably the best-case scenario, to be honest with you," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "You are always concerned when a pitcher goes down with elbow inflammation, but the way things have been going you are kind of prepared for the worst. But we got good news when his tests came in."

Bettis (elbow) checked out fine in his bullpen session earlier this week and could begin a rehab assignment next week, the Denver Post reports.
Bettis, who is working his way back from elbow inflammation, will throw again over the weekend in Washington, and if everything checks out fine, he'll begin facing hitters. The 26-year-old owns a 4.88 ERA and has struck out 65 batters over 75.2 innings with the Rockies this season.
