An earlier MRI showed nothing more than inflammation in Bettis' elbow when he was placed on the DL last month, so the right-hander will initiate his throwing program with the hope of rejoining the Rockies by mid-August. Once Bettis demonstrates that he's healthy, he would likely replace either Yohan Flande or Eddie Butler in the club's rotation.

Bettis' MRI revealed no structural damage in his elbow, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.

It's certainly encouraging news, but Bettis remains without a timetable for a return from the DL. Eddie Butler took Bettis' roster spot and appears in line for an extended run in the Rockies' rotation.

Bettis was placed on the 15-day DL prior to Sunday's game against the Padres due to right elbow inflammation.

Bettis owns a 8.55 ERA over four June starts, and this may help explain some of the struggles. He'll now head to the DL, and will likely have to wait until the soreness subsides before taking the mound again. The Rockies used his roster spot to call up Sunday's starter, right-hander Eddie Butler.

Bettis gave up three runs on three hits and three walks over six innings while not factoring into the decision in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Padres. He also struck out five batters.

Bettis had only given up one run heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, but he would give up a two-run double in the frame to give the Padres a 3-1 lead. A brief Rockies comeback later in the game would take Bettis off the hook for his third loss in four starts, though that's probably not of much consolation to fantasy owners. With a 4.88 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over 75.2 innings, Bettis has been one of the better members of a terrible Rockies rotation, but it's difficult to wring much value out of him outside of NL-only formats.

After he was tattooed for 10 runs while failing to escape the third inning in his previous outing against the Angels, Bettis was able to rebound to an extent Sunday, but was far from a dominant showing. Though the eight strikeouts marked a season best, he tied a career high with five walks, which he previous set against Atlanta in his 2013 MLB debut. Bettis' recent hiccups of late should give fantasy players some pause in considering scooping him off the waiver wire.

The four homers doubled the total Bettis had allowed from his previous 10 starts on the season, which came over a period of 61.1 innings. In was a troubling outing for the right-hander, who had probably been the rotation's most consistent performer this season prior to Tuesday's implosion. Bettis was victimized by leaving his pitches up in the zone against the red-hot Angels, but his 100 percent HR/FB on the night shouldn't be taken as a sign of things to come. He'll look to reestablish some momentum heading into the All-Star break with a turn Sunday at Coors Field against the Braves.

After a promising stretch, Bettis has been backsliding recently -- over his last five starts, he's has allowed 15 runs in 28 innings, good for a 4.82 ERA, and his K:BB in that span is a modest 23:12. It's worth noting that Bettis has (bizarrely) been significantly better at home in Coors Field than on the road, and he'll host the Angels in his next start Tuesday.

Bettis (4-2) covered six innings and gave up three wins to claim the road victory over the Giants on Friday. He struck out three batters and scattered six hits and a pair of walks.

Bettis has quickly become the most reliable option of a beleaguered Rockies rotation, as he's now submitted quality starts in six of his nine turns. Though he's still probably worth avoiding in shallower formats whenever he draws a start at Coors Field or faces a tougher offense on the road, Bettis remains worthy of a pickup in deeper leagues. His 3.36 FIP and respectable 46:17 K:BB ratio over 55.2 innings suggests the 3.56 ERA he's posted to date isn't a mirage.

Bettis gave up six fly balls including a pair of home runs, responsible for four of the five runs he allowed. The home runs were Bettis's first allowed in 43.1 innings. The long ball was an issue in each of Bettis's first two major league stints, and Monday suggests it probably isn't fully resolved yet. Bettis's MLB ERA was above 5.00 in each of his first two seasons.

Bettis (2-1) took his first loss of the year Wednesday, giving up three runs on six hits over five innings. He struck out six, walked two and threw two wild pitches.

This wasn't a bad outing at all by Coors Field standards, but it did push the young righty's ERA back up over the 3.00 mark. With 33 strikeouts against just 11 walks in 38.1 innings over six starts, Bettis has demonstrated the control necessary to succeed in the majors, but he hasn't allowed a home run this year despite a middling groundball rate, and you know that can't last in Colorado. He next lines up at home against Houston on Monday.

Bettis' next start has been moved back to Wednesday against St. Louis, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Bettis (2-0, 2.96 ERA) carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning before Cody Asche broke it up with a single. Once a highly-prized prospect, he has struggled with consistency. He was moved to the bullpen last season - it was a disaster - and went back to starting prior to this season, so he needs to solidify his position with the big club. Starts like this one should help do that.

The 26-year-old has now delivered quality starts in each of his last two outings and owns a respectable 4.19 ERA on the season after Sunday's performance. Bettis should stick in the Rockies rotation if he keeps delivering these solid numbers, but he doesn't have a tremendous track record of major league success so you needn't rush to add him just yet. The righty has a solid matchup against the Phillies on Saturday.

Bettis overcame some early trouble to prevent the game from getting away from the Rockies, and ultimately retired the final seven hitters he faced. His track record as a starter at the MLB level hasn't been encouraging -- Tuesday marked just his second quality start in 10 career turns -- but the Rockies appear inclined to stick with him while Tyler Matzek continues to languish at Triple-A Albuquerque.

Bettis lasted five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and four walks with three strikeouts against the Dodgers on Thursday.

He gave up a two-run double to Adrian Gonzalez in the first then an RBI single to Brett Anderson in the second and an RBI single to Yasmani Grandal in the fifth. Bettis's next start is scheduled for Tuesday against Philadelphia.

Bettis has been officially recalled and will start Thursday against the Dodgers.

Bettis' recall was just a matter of time as he was already announced as the starter Thursday. He's posted a 3.97 ERA and 1.41 WHIP while accumulating 26 strikeouts. A good outing Thursday could lead to another start in the rotation, with only four other pitchers currently listed as part of the rotation.

Bettis will be recalled to start Thursday against the Dodgers, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

The Rockies have chosen Bettis, a second-round pick in 2008, to serve as the team's fifth starter for the time being over the struggling Jon Gray. Bettis' numbers with Triple-A Albuquerque this season are nothing to write home about (3.97 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 26:10 K:BB), and most will want to avoid the right-hander in his 2015 debut even in the pitcher-friendly confines of Dodger Stadium.
