Williams was promoted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday, Sam Dykstra of MiLB.com reports.
Williams had gotten off to a great start at Double-A, slashing .317/.407/.375 with 11 steals and more walks than strikeouts through 34 games. He's never played at the Triple-A level before, but it's certainly a welcome promotion for the 23-year-old after struggling in Double-A in 2013 and 2014.

Williams was optioned to Double-A Trenton on Friday.
Williams posted a 1.025 OPS in limited action this spring, but he is not ready for the big leagues just yet. He will look to improve upon the sub-par .593 OPS he posted over 128 games with Trenton last season.

Williams was added to the Yankees' 40-man roster on Thursday.
Williams didn't have a great year in his first full season at Double-A Trenton, slashing just .223/.290/.304. He'll likely play in the minors again in 2015 as the addition to the 40-man roster just serves to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.

Williams finished the season slashing .223/.290/.304 with five home runs for Double-A Trenton.
Williams struggled at the Double-A level last year after being promoted, and his struggles continued in his first full season there. He did finish strong, an encouraging sign in an otherwise disappointing season.

Williams, 22, is hitting .213/.278/.284 in 112 games for Double-A Trenton.
Williams has added 20 stolen bases, but not much else has gone right for the 22-year-old this season. Dating back to his promotion last season, he's yet to have any success at the Double-A level, so it's unlikely that he'll be moved further up anytime soon.
