Fri Feb 22 201323:13Thornton scores eight points vs. ATL
Marcus Thornton scored eight points on 3-of-6 shooting (including two threes) with two rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench on Friday.
As long as mediocre veterans John Salmons and Travis Outlaw are getting heavy minutes for the should-be-rebuilding Kings, Thornton is going to struggle. That means he's going to be hard to count on in fantasy leagues.

Wed Feb 20 201301:55Marcus Thornton scores 16 with 4 treys
Marcus Thornton hit 6-of-16 shots and four 3-pointers on his way to 16 points, four rebounds, zero assists and a steal in 24 minutes of Tuesday's loss.
He missed his last game with a hand injury but played well tonight. He's been a model of inconsistency all season, and scored 15, 3, 24 and 9 points in each of his previous four games before sitting out his last one with the injury. He was solid tonight and could be ready to get hot, but there's a reason he's probably still available in your league.

Tue Feb 19 201309:30Marcus Thornton expected to return Tuesday
Marcus Thornton (hand) returned to practice on Monday and is expected to play on Tuesday.
Thornton injured his hand before the All-Star break, but he should be good to go for the Kings first game out of the gate on Tuesday.

Wed Feb 13 201319:55Marcus Thornton will not play Wednesday
Marcus Thornton (right hand) will not play against the Mavericks on Wednesday.
He suffered the injury to his hand while banging with Marc Gasol in Tuesday's game and the X-rays were negative. Thornton should probably be ready to go after the All-Star break, but he hasn't really been able to put together enough value in standard leagues lately.

Tue Feb 12 201323:14Marcus Thornton scores 15 vs. Grizzlies
Marcus Thornton shot 4-of-12 from the field for 15 points with one rebound, one steal and three 3-pointers in 21 minutes against the Grizzlies on Tuesday.
The good news is that he took 12 shots and he's taken at least 12 shots in three of his last four games. Thornton hasn't really made the most of those chances, making just 35.7 percent of his attempts in his last four. The needle still hasn't moved enough to pick him up in most formats, but he's certainly on the radar.

Mon Feb 11 201300:59Thornton has another off game on Sunday
Marcus Thornton shot 1-of-4 from the field for three points with one rebound and one 3-pointer in 19 minutes against the Rockets on Sunday.
He went off on Saturday with a 24-point outing, but that appears to be an outlier as his only game in his last six in double figures. All four of his field goal attempts came from beyond the arc, but he didn't get any free throws to follow up on his nine-attempt game on Saturday. He won't be much fun to own right now, but there's some upside here.

Sun Feb 10 201301:33Marcus Thornton leads Kings w/ 24 points
Marcus Thornton scored 24 points vs. the Jazz, draining 7-of-14 FGs, 2-of-5 threes, and 8-of-9 FTs in 27 minutes.
This matches Thornton's highest playing time in the past three weeks, and his highest scoring total since Nov. 3. He recently wrote on Twitter, "Patiently waiting until he decides to really turn me loose then it's ON," a transparent message to Keith Smart which fantasy owners would happily echo.

Fri Feb 1 201322:23Thornton plays 23 minutes on Friday
Marcus Thornton played 23 minutes on Friday, scoring six points on 2-of-5 shooting with two assists and two steals.
Keith Smart refuses to play the team's top scorer from last season and we're not sure the coach even knows why he's doing it at this point. There's upside here, but owners should feel free to watch this action from the wire until there are indications Thornton will get real playing time. Playing in an incompetently structured offense, he needs big minutes to have real value.

Wed Jan 30 201322:37Marcus Thornton plays 27 minutes Wednesday
Marcus Thornton played 27 minutes on Wednesday, scoring seven points with three rebounds, one assist, three steals and three 3-pointers against the Celtics.
It's pretty discouraging to see him falter even with John Salmons (flu) out of the lineup. Thornton is a stash-type guy, but we don't blame owners in standard leagues for wanting to jettison him for another player.

Mon Jan 28 201322:23Thornton hits three treys against Washington
Marcus Thornton hit three triples on Monday, finishing with 11 points on 4-of-12 shooting, four rebounds, two assists, and a steal in 24 minutes off the bench.
It's pretty ridiculous that the Kings' leading scorer from last season is riding the pine, but it is what it is. He's a stash candidate with an uncertain future and plenty of upside.

Sun Jan 27 201300:26Marcus Thornton scores 8 in 10 minutes
Marcus Thornton had just eight points and two 3-pointers in 10 minutes of Saturday's blowout loss to the Nuggets.
Thornton had 13 points and three 3-pointers on Friday, but didn't get enough run tonight, mainly because this game was a blowout. The Kings are still a mess and there are a lot of guards to feed in Sacramento, meaning Thornton's owners are going to have to be ready to take the bad nights along with the good ones.

Sat Jan 26 201302:23Thornton scores 13 points with four steals
Marcus Thornton scored 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting (including three treys) with two rebounds and four steals in 25 minutes off the bench on Friday.
Thornton has been up and down (mostly the latter) lately but the recent signs of life are encouraging. There have been whispers about his ankle being part of the reason behind his low minute totals, but chances are it's the randomness of Keith Smart. He's worth a look but still has plenty of risk.

Mon Jan 21 201316:06Marcus Thornton held to four points
Coming off an 18-point performance, Marcus Thornton flopped with just four points and four rebounds in 11 minutes on Monday.
Thornton has been dreadful since returning from an ankle injury 10 days ago, and he's done nothing to deserve a spot in active lineups. Whether you can keep him on your roster is dependent upon the your individual team's record, needs, and league depth.

Sat Jan 19 201322:21Marcus Thornton scores hollow 18 points
Marcus Thornton scored 18 points with four 3-pointers in Saturday's victory, but he added just one rebound with no other stats to his credit.
This came against the league's worst defense and Thornton's scoring totals in the past five games don't exactly inspire confidence -- five, 20, four, two, and tonight's 18. Reason suggests that his role ought to expand going forward, but prescriptive thinking hasn't gotten us anywhere with the Kings this season.

Sat Jan 19 201300:34Thornton scores two points vs. Grizzlies
Marcus Thornton scored two points on 1-of-6 shooting with two rebounds and two assists in 20 minutes off the bench on Friday.
Keith Smart said he was going to tighten his rotation and played 13 guys tonight, giving anybody who believed a word that guy says an orange cone to wear all night long. Thornton is a good basketball player playing in an unbelievably bad system, and with all the distraction in Sacramento it's fair for owners to look elsewhere. Just be ready to move if he heats up.

Tue Jan 15 201301:18Marcus Thornton scores 20 with three 3s
Marcus Thornton helped propel the Kings to a 124-118 win off the bench with 20 points, one rebound, one assist, two steals and three 3-pointers in 30 minutes.
He has been a ghost in the box scores in his last two games back from an ankle injury, scoring a combined five points in 28 minutes. Thornton has the upside to be one of the better bench scorers in the league, so he's worth grabbing in all standard leagues for points and triples.

Sun Jan 13 201300:39Marcus Thornton plays 21 minutes vs. Heat
Marcus Thornton (ankle) played 21 minutes in a reserve role on Saturday, scoring five points with one assist.
He played just seven minutes in his return to action on Thursday and this was an appropriate increase in playing time, despite fantasy owners' impatience. It's concerning that Francisco Garcia and John Salmons are still playing significant roles (even starting, at the moment), but Thornton makes a nice stash thanks to his explosive offensive upside.

Fri Jan 11 201301:20Marcus Thornton plays just seven minutes
Marcus Thornton played just seven minutes in his return from an ankle injury and failed to score with one rebound against the Mavericks on Thursday.
He didn't check in until the third quarter and wasn't very active. Thornton's ankle sprain clearly isn't of the garden variety and it might take him some time before he gets back in the swing of things. His upside makes him someone that should be owned in standard leagues, though.

Thu Jan 10 201320:53Marcus Thornton is a game-time decision
Marcus Thornton (ankle) is a game-time decision to face the Mavericks on Thursday.
"He's going to out and warm up. He'll be a game-time decision," coach Keith Smart said. Thornton has missed five games with his sprained ankle and has been disappointing with just 26.9 minutes per game this year. He still has some nice upside with the way he can rack up 3-pointers and owners in standard leagues should consider adding him. John Salmons, Jimmer Fredette and Francisco Garcia would take a hit upon his return.
