Wed Mar 26 201418:43Marcus Thornton won't play vs. Bobcats
Marcus Thornton (back) will not play against the Bobcats on Wednesday.
There was never really a chance he was going to play despite the team calling him a game-time decision. Thornton has been way too inconsistent to be counted on in most leagues.

Wed Mar 26 201417:43Marcus Thornton is a game-time decision
Marcus Thornton (back) is a game-time decision to face the Bobcats on Wednesday.
He called his status "kind of iffy" and he probably isn't close to 100 percent. Thornton has a bruised lower back which he sustained on Monday and the Nets should probably just hold him out. Expect Alan Anderson to have a more prominent role, but he's not really an option on a 10-game Wednesday night.

Wed Mar 26 201415:48Marcus Thornton doesn't practice on Wed.
Marcus Thornton (back) said his status for Wednesday's game vs. the Bobcats is "kind of iffy."
He suffered a back injury on Monday and did not return. Thornton doesn't really have any chronic back issues and there hasn't been anything of note regarding that type of injury since 2010. Fantasy owners should look another direction while Alan Anderson may be a bigger part of the wing scoring.

Mon Mar 24 201421:32Marcus Thornton out for game with back issue
Marcus Thornton will not return after suffering a bruised lower back injury on Monday.
He played 10 minutes before his injury, finishing with three points on 1-of-6 shooting. Thornton has been up and down all season, so his fantasy owners might want to think twice about keeping him through this injury. He's a risky player to own even before this news. Shaun Livingston and Alan Anderson will pick up some extra minutes.

Sun Mar 23 201423:03Marcus Thornton scores 20 points w/ four 3s
The Nets stole an overtime win in Dallas on Sunday thanks in part to Macus Thornton's 20 points, four 3-pointers, seven rebounds and one assist in just 24 minutes.
He drained 7-of-11 shots but he didn't play in overtime and this outburst shouldn't persuade fantasy owners to pick him up. Thornton has scored 20+ points four times in March but he has yet to score double-digit points in consecutive games, which paints a clear picture of his inconsistent role as a bench scorer.

Sat Mar 15 201421:30Marcus Thornton hits five 3-pointers in loss
Marcus Thornton continued his up-and-down ways on Saturday, hitting five 3-pointers and 7-of-11 shots off the bench for 19 points, three rebounds and one assist in a loss to Washington.
Looking at Thornton's game log will make you dizzy, but if you throw him into your lineup on the right night, he can be a difference maker. The problem is you might have better luck playing the lottery than figuring out on which night he'll choose to get hot.

Wed Mar 12 201423:24Marcus Thornton stinks vs. the Heat
Marcus Thornton scored just five points vs. the Heat on Wednesday with three boards, three steals and one 3-pointer.
Simply put, Shaun Livingston has just been too good to take off the floor. He's a great fit for the Nets and he had a huge play tonight. Unless you're in dire need of treys, Thornton isn't a fantasy option while the Nets are remotely healthy on the wing.

Mon Mar 10 201423:01Thornton disappears as usual on Monday
Marcus Thornton hit just 2-of-6 shots for five points and one three in 18 minutes off the bench on Monday.
Thornton scored 27 points against his old Kings team on Sunday, but predictably fell back to earth against a Raptors team that plays on a different level than Sacto. Smooth out the ups and downs and he has been a 14-team player over the last two weeks, with averages of 12.9 points, 1.9 treys and 1.8 combined steals and blocks while hitting 46.9 percent of his shots. The defense and shooting are unsustainable.

Sun Mar 9 201420:41Marcus Thornton has 27 points vs. former team
Marcus Thornton scored a team-high 27 points vs. his former team on Sunday, making 11-of-15 FGs with five 3-pointers as the Nets defeated the Kings.
Thornton's scoring totals have been all over the place in Brooklyn (his past four games had totals of four, 20, three and 25 points), but owners targeting points and 3-pointers may find him too tempting to pass up -- at least when the Nets face a lenient defense. He was helped tonight by the absence of both Paul Pierce (shoulder) and Andrei Kirilenko (ankle), and Thornton should get more minutes and shots if either of those veterans miss Monday's game vs. Toronto.

Fri Mar 7 201423:44Marcus Thornton scores four points vs. Boston
Marcus Thornton had a rough night against the Celtics on Friday, making 1-of-9 from the field for four points with four boards, two assists and two steals in 29 minutes.
The 29 minutes are the most he's played with the Nets, but this was his worst game with them based on shooting percentage. Thornton has been up and down throughout his career and he's going to have plenty more duds like this one the rest of the way. His upside is nothing more than in a timeshare with Shaun Livingston, so he's not quite worth owning in standard leagues unless you really need triples.

Thu Mar 6 201400:11Marcus Thornton scores 20 w/ five 3-pointers
Marcus Thornton got hot off the bench on Wednesday, hitting 8-of-13 shots and four 3-pointers for 20 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals in 26 minutes.
Thornton's game log is an interesting read, as he's scored 20, 3, 25, 10 and 9 points in his five games with the Nets. The fact he's gone for 20 and 25 in two of his last three is encouraging and it wouldn't be surprising to see him replace Shaun Livingston in the starting lineup at any time. He's too risky to be used in weekly leagues right now, but if you play him on the right night, he can help. And he's just getting comfortable in Brooklyn, making him worth a stash if you have room.

Mon Mar 3 201423:21Marcus Thornton has a horrible game on Monday
Marcus Thornton made just one of his seven shots in 20 minutes against the Bulls on Monday for three points and one steal.
The Nets seem comfortable in using Shaun Livingston in the starting lineup, so Thornton will have more than his fair share of duds like this one. He's seen a lot of action in garbage time, so his 22.0 minutes per game in his last four might be a little high.

Sat Mar 1 201423:35Marcus Thornton scores 25 off Nets bench
Marcus Thornton came off the bench to hit 8-of-13 shots and four 3-pointers for 25 points in 24 minutes on Saturday.
He didn't do much else and in case you're wondering, no, this wasn't a season high for him. He scored 42 points for the Kings on Jan. 24, but this was just his fourth 20-point game of the season, but the fact he's done it in one of his two games played for the Nets in encouraging. He's still not a must-own player, but if he continues to hit shots and get heavy minutes, he's worth stashing if you have room.

Thu Feb 27 201402:51Marcus Thornton makes Nets debut
Marcus Thornton finally made his Nets debut after a case of food poisoning and played 27 minutes off the bench, finishing with nine points, two rebounds, one assist and a 3-pointer on 4-of-11 shooting.
That line looks suspiciously similar to the ones he was posting in Sacramento, but we're willing to give him a pass since it was his debut. The Nets were blown out 124-80, so there's not much to learn from this one, but the bottom line is that Thornton led the team in minutes, while starting SG Shaun Livingston played just 14 minutes in his return from a tailbone injury. We're not about to call Thornton a must-own player, but it is quite possible that he steals a lot of Livingston's minutes, and could eventually steal his job. Just keep an eye on Thornton.

Wed Feb 26 201413:37Marcus Thornton (illness) will play Wednesday
Marcus Thornton (food poisoning) is ready to make his Nets debut vs. the Trail Blazers on Wednesday.
Thornton will be lucky to match the 24 minutes he was averaging with the Kings, and even then he was averaging just 8.3 points on 38.1 percent shooting, with 1.0 assists and 0.7 steals per game. He's only worth a look if you're desperate for 3-point shooting.

Tue Feb 25 201413:54Marcus Thornton expects to play vs POR Weds
Marcus Thornton (food poisoning) expects to play against the Blazers on Wednesday.
Thornton said he feels much better after missing the Nets' last two games due to food poisoning he thinks he picked up from some lobster mac and cheese. It's unclear exactly how he'll fit into the Nets' rotation, so fantasy owners in standard leagues will want to wait and see how he's used Wednesday night before scooping up Thornton just yet. Watch out for that lobster mac and cheese.

Sun Feb 23 201419:46Marcus Thornton will not play on Sunday
Marcus Thornton (illness) will not play against the Lakers on Sunday.
He's missed his last two games with the Nets due to some food poisoning. Thornton's role is not clear just yet and he's not quite worth grabbing in standards until things clear up. He has upside, so he's worth monitoring. Alan Anderson and Mirza Teletovic might get some extra playing time tonight.

Sat Feb 22 201422:32Marcus Thornton will not play on Saturday
Marcus Thornton (illness) will not play against the Warriors on Saturday.
His Nets debut will have to wait due to his food poisoning issue. Thornton will likely come off the bench when he's ready and will be too inconsistent to use in most formats until proven otherwise.
