Todd Redmond will be recalled to start the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cubs.
Redmond has been up with the Reds a couple times this season but hasn't appeared in any games. He's held a nice 3.54 ERA and 125/34 K/BB ratio over 134 2/3 innings at the Triple-A level this season. The 27-year-old will be making his major league debut.

He'll take the place of the injured Joey Votto (knee) on the active roster. Johnny Cueto was scratched from his scheduled start on Sunday due to a blister, so Redmond will presumably function as insurance in case he has any issues. Redmond, who was acquired from the Braves over the weekend for Paul Janish, has a 3.58 ERA and 96/28 K/BB ratio through 105 2/3 innings this season at the Triple-A level.

In other words, he hasn't officially been called up to the majors. Johnny Cueto, who was scratched from Sunday's start due to a blister on his finger, is expected to start Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.

It's a nice get for Cincinnati, considering how expendable Janish has been since the arrival of young shortstop Zack Cozart. Redmond, 27, had a 3.58 ERA and 96/28 K/BB ratio through 105 2/3 innings this season with the Braves' Triple-A affiliate in Gwinnett, Georgia. He'll presumably join the rotation at Triple-A Louisville.

The move keeps him from becoming a minor league free agent. Redmond, 26, posted a 2.92 ERA and 142/47 K/BB ratio over 169 2/3 innings with Triple-A Gwinnett this season. He'll stick around as insurance for the major league starting rotation.
