Tue Jul 3 201218:03Nats place Chien-Ming Wang on disabled list
Nationals placed RHP Chien-Ming Wang on the 15-day disabled list with a right hip strain.
The move was made retroactive to July 1, so Wang will be eligible to return shortly after the All-Star break. He's registered a brutal 7.61 ERA in 23 2/3 innings this season, and could probably use the time off.

Wed Jun 20 201216:42Wang shifted to 'pen
Chien-Ming Wang has been moved to the bullpen.

Tue Jun 12 201222:49Chien-Ming Wang wins second
Chien-Ming Wang wasn't terribly sharp but won Tuesday anyway, allowing two runs on four hits and five walks over five innings in the 4-2 victory over the Blue Jays.
Wang was in trouble most of the night but managed to keep the Jays from putting up a crooked number on the board. Still, he's posted a 4.67 ERA and 1.90 WHIP so far, making him a big risk outside of NL-only leagues. He'll try for better results next week against the Rays.

Wed May 30 201222:29Chien-Ming Wang has rough first start
Chien-Ming Wang was shaky in his first start of the season Wednesday, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks in just four innings of Washington's loss in Miami.
He struck out four. Not the outing Wang was envisioning, but not a major concern as he settles into the Nats rotation. That being said, if he isn't in groove after four or five outings, the Nats could easily shift Ross Detwiler back into their starting five. Wang will get the Mets at home next week.

Sat May 26 201219:47Nats move Wang to rotation, Detwiler to 'pen
The Nationals are moving Chien-Ming Wang into the rotation.
Ross Detwiler, who allowed three runs in just 4 1/3 innings Friday against the Braves, will be shifted to the bullpen. Wang's poor strikeout numbers make him an unattractive option in most fantasy leagues, but he should do fine for the Nats in his more familiar starting role.

Sat May 19 201216:48Report: Nationals to use Wang out of bullpen
Nationals manager Davey Johnson said that Chien-Ming Wang (hamstring) will pitch out of the bullpen when he comes off the disabled list.
It's what we expected, given the early success of Ross Detwiler. Wang is nearing the end of his 30-day rehab window, and is slated to make one more rehab start before coming off the disabled list. The 32-year-old right-hander has drawn some trade interest, but nothing appears imminent on that front.

Mon May 14 201216:50Wang (hammy) set for another rehab start
Chien-Ming Wang (hamstring) will make one more minor league rehab start before coming off the disabled list.
Wang allowed four runs over eight innings Monday with Triple-A Syracuse. His 30-day rehab window doesn't expire until May 27, so the Nationals still have time to kill, but it's not clear if he'll return as a starter or a member of the bullpen. The 32-year-old right-hander has drawn some trade interest, so it's possible the Nats could swap him to add some depth to their injury-riddled roster.

Mon May 14 201213:55Wang (hamstring) goes seven in rehab outing
Chien-Ming Wang (hamstring) allowed two runs in a seven-inning rehab start Monday at Triple-A Syracuse.
He struck out one and walked one while inducing 13 groundball outs. It's another step in the right direction for the rehabbing Wang, who should be cleared for activation from the disabled list within the next few weeks. Whether he's going to join the Nationals' bullpen or rotation is something that still needs to be decided.

Sun May 13 201210:13Teams interested in Chien-Ming Wang?
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that Chien-Ming Wang is drawing trade interest from teams.
Cafardo says the Nationals "would rather deal lefty John Lannan, but teams appear more interested in Wang." The veteran right-hander is currently on the DL, but he's over his hamstring injury and pitching well on a rehab assignment. The Nats rotation has been lights out, so trading Wang to shore up another area would make some sense. They also like having the depth, though.

Fri May 11 201210:36Chien-Ming Wang to make one more rehab start
Chien-Ming Wang (hamstring) will make at least one more rehab start before being recalled by the Nationals.
Wang surrendered two runs over seven strong innings for Triple-A Syracuse Wednesday, with manager Davey Johnson saying he received good reports on the right-hander. "He had good sink, good curveball," Johnson said. "So he's getting close." It's hard to believe the Nats would boot Ross Detwiler from the rotation given how well he's pitched, so Wang might have to return in a relief role initially.

Mon May 7 201219:16Wang to make next rehab start at Triple-A
Chien-Ming Wang's (hamstring) next rehab start will come Wednesday at Triple-A Syracuse.
It's possible it will be his last rehab outing before rejoining the Nationals. When he does return, he figures to slide into a long relief role given the success of Ross Detwiler.

Fri May 4 201223:09Wang allows two runs in rehab appearance
Chien-Ming Wang allowed two runs -- one earned -- on three hits in six innings Friday in his latest rehab assignment with Low-A Hagerstown.
Wang is expected to make at least two more rehab starts before coming off the disabled list, but doesn't have a clear path to the majors given the success of Ross Detwiler. The 32-year-old right-hander went 4-3 with a 4.04 ERA in 11 starts with the Nationals last season before signing a one-year, $4 million contract this offseason.

Updating a previous item, Chien-Ming Wang (hamstring) will make his next minor league rehab start Friday with Double-A Harrisburg.
Wang was originally scheduled to pitch Thursday, but the outing was scrapped after a two-hour rain delay. He's expected to make at least two more rehab starts before coming off the disabled list, though Ross Detwiler may make it tough for him to reclaim a rotation spot.

Thu May 3 201221:46Wang's rehab start scratched due to rain
Chien-Ming Wang (hamstring) didn't make his scheduled rehab start Thursday with Double-A Harrisburg due to a rain delay.
The game was delayed for two hours, so his outing was ultimately scrapped. It's not clear when he'll pitch next. Wang was forced to begin the season on the disabled list due to strained left hamstring.

Thu May 3 201209:06Wang (hammy) to make two more rehab starts
Chien-Ming Wang (hamstring) is expected to make at least two more minor league rehab starts.
Wang tossed four innings of one-run ball Saturday in his first rehab outing. He'll try to get to five innings next time out and then six in what should be his final minor league start. The 32-year-old right-hander is on track to join the Nationals' starting rotation by the middle of May.

Mon Apr 23 201216:40Wang (hamstring) pitches in ext. spring game
Chien-Ming Wang (hamstring) allowed one run on five hits over three innings Monday in an extended spring training game.
Wang struck out three and walked none while throwing 37 out of 51 pitches for strikes. Assuming no setbacks with the hamstring, his next start should come with a minor league affiliate. Ross Detwiler, who has a 0.56 ERA and 15/4 K/BB ratio in 16 innings over his first three starts, will continue to hold down the fifth spot in the rotation.
