Wed May 21 201423:06Jeremy Guthrie goes seven strong
Jeremy Guthrie allowed just one run and three hits over seven innings in a no-decision against the White Sox on Wednesday.
Guthrie didn't get a win for his effort. He prevailed in his first two starts of the year, but he's 0-3 in eight starts since, even though the Royals have won four of those games. The start tonight lowered his ERA from 4.76 to 4.39.

Sun May 11 201421:02Guthrie allows seven runs against Mariners
Jeremy Guthrie allowed seven runs, including three home runs, over 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Mariners on Sunday.
Guthrie served up two homers to Dustin Ackley and another to Kyle Seager among his eight hits allowed. The right-hander didn't walk a batter while striking out two. His offense bailed him out from taking his third loss, but Guthrie still hasn't earned a win since April 9. He'll keep searching for that win Saturday against the Orioles.

Wed May 7 201401:30Guthrie holds Padres to one run in Petco
Jeremy Guthrie fired eight innings of one-run ball as part of a no-decision versus the Padres on Tuesday.
Guthrie didn't blow anybody away, of course -- striking out two -- but he limited unforced errors (one walk) and kept the Padres off balance (three scattered hits; the fourth was Yasmani Grandal's fourth inning solo homer). Guthrie is earning his salary thus far, going 2-2 with a 3.91 ERA in seven outings. The veteran remains out west in Seattle on Sunday.

Thu May 1 201422:55Guthrie takes the loss as Royals fall to Jays
Jeremy Guthrie took the loss in Thursday's start, allowing four runs in six innings as the Royals fell to the Blue Jays.
Guthrie allowed eight hits and two walks while striking out four. The right-hander made two big mistakes resulting in home runs: a two-run shot to Juan Francisco in the fourth, and a solo shot to Colby Rasmus in the sixth. Thursday's start marked the fourth out of six in which Guthrie has allowed exactly four runs, emblematic of who he is: reliably and consistently a 4.50 ERA-type pitcher.

Wed Apr 9 201417:20Guthrie goes seven strong in win over Rays
Jeremy Guthrie threw seven innings of one-run ball to lead the Royals past the Rays on Wednesday.
Guthrie was hammered for four runs over 5 2/3 innings last Friday against the White Sox but still escaped with a victory. He was much sharper Wednesday in Kansas City and moved to 2-0 on the year. The right-hander remains a matchup-to-matchup play in fantasy leagues. Next week's tilt in Houston is an attractive one.

Mon Mar 24 201418:24Rockies get to Guthrie early
Jeremy Guthrie allowed four runs in five innings during Monday's start against the Rockies.
Guthrie walked one and allowed six hits, including a solo shot to Troy Tulowitzki in the second inning. Guthrie has a 7.04 on the spring, which isn't really inspiring confidence in his ability to improve upon last season's 4.04 ERA in 211 2/3 innings.

Thu Mar 13 201417:28Guthrie struggles against the Indians
Jeremy Guthrie struggled against the Indians in Thursday's start, giving up three runs (two earned) in three innings.
Guthrie allowed five hits and three walks but did strike out five. Strikeouts aren't really his forte, though. He does eat up a lot of innings while issuing relatively few walks.

Mon Mar 3 201418:51Guthrie struggles in Monday's start
Jeremy Guthrie allowed three runs in two innings in Monday's start against the White Sox.
Guthrie was under pressure from the start in his Cactus League debut, allowing back-to-back singles to start the first inning before allowing a one-out, three-run home run to Andy Wilkins. The right-hander showed improvement last season despite allowing a league-leading 236 hits, finishing with a 4.04 ERA.

Mon Jan 13 201410:56Royals re-work contract with Jeremy Guthrie
The Royals have reworked their contract with Jeremy Guthrie, adding a $10 million mutual option for 2016.
Guthrie will make $8 million in 2014 rather than $11 million and his new mutual option will include a $3.2 million buyout. It's the same amount of guaranteed money as the originally-agreed-to deal and clears some room in the Royals' budget to make more upgrades this winter.

Thu Sep 26 201323:12Jeremy Guthrie gearns victory over White Sox
Jeremy Guthrie surrendered two runs and four hits in seven innings to beat the White Sox on Thursday.
Guthrie finishes the year 15-12 with a 4.07 ERA. It's hardly the best he's ever pitched, but he finished with a winning record for the first time since 2007 and blew past his previous career high for wins by four. The Royals owe him $20 million through 2015, so he'll be back in the rotation next year.

Sun Sep 15 201315:53Guthrie allows 11 hits and 2 homers in loss
Jeremy Guthrie was charged with three runs on 13 hits in eight innings during Sunday's loss in Detroit.
He struck out four and walked one. Guthrie danced out of most of his self-inflicted problems, but Alex Avila had his number and smacked two homers that accounted for all three runs on Guthrie's ledger. This was Guthrie's third consecutive quality start and his fourth out of five. The right-hander drops to 14-11 with a 4.08 ERA.

Tue Sep 10 201322:59Jeremy Guthrie fantastic vs. Tribe
Jeremy Guthrie had his stuff working Tuesday, tossing six innings of one-run ball in a 6-3 win over the Indians.
Guthrie permitted nine hits, but just one of them went for extra bases and he didn't walk anyone. The right-hander has been up-and-down in the second half, allowing four or more runs in five outings but also limiting the opposition to one or zero on five occasions. He'll get a rematch against the Tribe next week in Kansas City.

Sat Aug 31 201316:02Guthrie goes seven innings in no-decision
Jeremy Guthrie tossed seven innings of one run-ball in a tough-luck no-decision against the Blue Jays on Saturday.
Guthrie scattered eight hits while walking none and striking out four. He was in line for the win until an error by Alcides Escobar in the eighth opened the door for the Blue Jays to take the lead. The veteran right-hander owns a respectable 4.08 ERA through 28 starts this season, but he doesn't miss enough bats to be a consistent option in mixed fantasy leagues.

Jeremy Guthrie hurled his second complete-game shutout of the season as the Royals smoked the Twins 13-0 on Monday.
Guthrie never had a shutout until throwing one against the White Sox on May 5. This makes two, and it's his fourth straight win after a pre-All-Star break slump. He's now 12-7 with a 3.96 ERA. It's the first time since mid-June that his ERA has been under 4.00.

Jeremy Guthrie allowed just one run over six innings against his former team as the Royals beat the Orioles 7-1 on Thursday.
Guthrie has faced the Orioles twice this year and beaten them both times, allowing a total of three runs in 13 innings. He's been struggling against the rest of the AL lately, but he does have an easy matchup coming up next week against the Twins.

Sat Jul 13 201322:06Jeremy Guthrie surrenders five runs in loss
Jeremy Guthrie was tagged for five runs on eight hits over seven frames in Saturday's loss to the Indians.
Guthrie punched out three and walked three on the evening. This game was a pitching duel, with the Royals trailing 1-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, before Lonnie Chisenhall's grand slam broke the game open. Guthrie finishes the first half with an 8-6 mark, 4.25 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 58/43 K/BB ratio in 120 2/3 innings. His inability to generate strikeouts, and propensity for allowing baserunners makes him an extremely risky fantasy option moving forward.
