Washington Nationals pitching prospect Cade Cavalli went seven innings and allowed two hits, zero runs, one walk and struck out six in his most recent start for Triple-A Rochester. The right-hander has been inconsistent on the season, but has allowed just one run and recorded 12 strikeouts over his last two starts (12 innings). Cavalli had a chance to crack the Nationals Opening Day roster this season, but had a dismal spring training and the results in Triple-A have been far too inconsistent with a 2-3 record to go along with a 5.58 ERA in nine starts. When everything is going right, Cavalli is one of the more talented pitching prospects in the game and the 6'4 righty has shown the ability to throw his fastball in the upper 90s. Command continues to be an issue for Cavalli and he will need to figure out how to find the strike zone better. There is still a chance that he gets to the big leagues at some point in 2022, but the Nationals are sure to want to see better results before rushing up the right-hander. Cavalli would be an intriguing option in redraft leagues, but offers his most value in dynasty leagues at the moment.

Washington Nationals right-hander Cade Cavalli was sent to the minor leagues on Saturday, but the Nationals expect their top pitching prospect to be up in the major leagues at some point in 2022. Cavalli could use a bit more minor league seasoning after posting a 14.04 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in just 8 1/3 innings over three appearances (one start) in Grapefruit League action this spring. The 23-year-old will begin the year with Triple-A Rochester after posting a 3.36 ERA and 1.26 WHIP while striking out 175 and walking 60 in 123 1/3 innings over 24 starts for High-A Wilmington, Double-A Harrisburg and Rochester last year. Cavalli will have to improve the 13.2% walk rate he had at Triple-A before the Nats feel he's ready to pitch in D.C.
