RHP Craig Stammen (hamstring) had to leave Friday's game against the San Francisco Giants in the sixth inning after suffering an injury running the bases. The reliever felt tightness in his leg while dashing first to third on a single after he had walked in the sixth. The injury is not considered serious, but Stammen likely will not pitch again in the series that ends Sunday.

RHP Craig Stammen, who broke into the majors with the Nationals in 2009, returned to Washington for the first time as a visitor this weekend. Stammen, a member of the San Diego bullpen, pitched in the minors last season with the Cleveland Indians. Stammen threw two scoreless innings Saturday with three strikeouts and has a 5.02 ERA. He did not have an at-bat and was thus the only San Diego player who appeared in the game who did not strike out, as the Padres fanned 17 times.

RHP Craig Stammen or Rule 5 RHP Miguel Diaz will take over as the Padres' long man. Both appeared Sunday. Stammen gave up hits to the only three hitters he faced, climaxing with Justin Bour's decisive three-run homer. After not allowing a run over 4 1/3 innings in his first four outings, Stammen has allowed eight runs on seven hits, including three homers, and two walks over 3 2/3 innings in his last four outings. Stammen now has a 9.00 earned run average.

RHP Craig Stammen continued to make progress after undergoing surgery to repair two torn flexor tendons in his right forearm in April 2015. Stammen is rehabbing at Double-A Akron. "I don't think as of a couple of days ago he hadn't gone back to back. It's been a long road for him," manager Terry Francona said. "The reports have been pretty good on him."

RHP Craig Stammen is throwing off a mound and in the bullpen at 75 percent intensity and throwing all his pitches at the Indians' spring training facility in Goodyear, Ariz. With Washington last year, Stammen had season-ending surgery April 19 to repair torn flexor tendons in his elbow. He was non-tendered by the Nationals and signed to a minor-league contract by the Indians.

Stammen has been transferred to the 60-day DL, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.

He's expected to miss the entire season, so the move simply opens up a space on the 40-man roster for Joe Ross.

Stammen (forearm) has been diagnosed with a torn right flexor tendon, and he will likely miss the remainder of the season, James Wagner of the Washington Post reports.

Given that he needs surgery to repair the flexor tendon, Stammen will almost certainly miss the rest of the season. He got off to a solid start this year, but the Nationals shouldn't have much trouble finding another middle reliever.

The Nationals placed Stammen on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with right forearm stiffness.

Stammen pitched four of the last five days, but his sore forearm will sideline him at least until the last day of April, and possibly beyond. Taylor Jordan was called up from Triple-A Syracuse to replace Stammen in the Nationals' bullpen.

Stammen has an 8.68 ERA and 7:1 K:BB ratio through 9.1 spring innings.

The ERA is ugly, but is fueled by a high BABIP in a small sample size, and Stammen's other numbers don't seem to indicate there's anything wrong with him. He should once again be the jack-of-all-trades in the Nationals' bullpen, but he'll need to turn around last season's decline in his strikeout rate to regain even a little fantasy value.

Stammen agreed to a one-year, $2.25 million deal with the Nationals on Thursday, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.

Stammen struggled in 2014 compared to his three previous seasons, but finished with descent numbers (3.84 ERA, 1.27 WHIP). He figures to continue in a middle-relief role for the Nats, with the ability to go multiple innings if needed.

Stammen was tendered a contract prior to Tuesday's deadline.

The normally reliable long man struggled at times in 2014 and saw a big dip in his K/9 rate, but Stammen will return and supply a middle inning bridge to Tyler Clippard, Matt Thornton and Drew Storen.

Stammen gave up five runs on six hits without recording an out in the second game of Friday's double-header.

Ouch. The outing sent his ERA soaring from 3.22 to 3.84, and put a capper on a disappointing season that saw his strikeout rate fall from last year's 8.71 K/9 to 6.94 in 2014.

Stammen was battered out of the bullpen Monday, allowing two runs in a frame of work.

Stammen also allowed six hits in his inning. The 30 year old hurler may have hit a wall this season, allowing 12 runs in his last 11.2 innings out of the bullpen. As a result of his slump, Stammen's ERA has risen to 4.07 for the season.

Craig Stammen was hit hard in relief of Stephen Strasburg during Tuesday's loss to the Nationals, allowing five runs in an inning of work.

Stammen allowed six hits and a walk while recording only one strikeout. The right-hander had been solid for the Nationals in his first four appearances, but the Marlins weren't fooled by anything he threw. Stammen's ERA ballooned from 1.23 to 6.48 with the outing.

Craig Stammen threw four scoreless innings in relief of injured starter Stephen Strasburg to earn the win on Friday.

Strasburg lasted only two innings before being lifted due to a muscle issue in his back, forcing Stammen into action. All the reliever did was throw four perfect innings, striking out three. The win was his third of the year, and the Nationals' long reliever now has a 2.60 ERA.

Craig Stammen was knocked around the park by the Giants Monday, allowing two runs on seven hits over 2 2/3 innings.

Washington didn't have much of a chance after Zach Duke spotted the Giants an early lead, but Stammen's poor performance sealed their fate. Stammen stranded a handful of runners to limit the damage this game had on his ERA, which jumped from 2.25 to 2.78. As a long reliever, Stammen has fulfilled expectations, adding a 1.19 WHIP and 23/5 K/BB rate over 22 2/3 innings.

The financials of the deal aren't known. Stammen, who was arbitration-eligible for the first time as a Super 2 qualifier, held a 2.34 ERA while striking out a batter per inning for the Nats last season.

Stammen actually has a 2.38 ERA with a 20/9 K/BB ratio over his last four starts, but the Nats simply don't have room for him in the rotation with the return of Strasburg and Jason Marquis, as well as the impending arrivals of Yunesky Maya and Jordan Zimmermann.
