Medina might have been in line for the save in the ninth anyway, given that Oliver Perez was used to pitch a scoreless seventh with the Mariners up 2-1. Tom Wilhelmsen let that lead get away in the eighth, but the Mariners reclaimed it in the 10th after Erick Aybar couldn't quite get a handle on Kendrys Morales' sharp liner over his head. Medina went on to retire Albert Pujols, Mark Trumbo and Howie Kendrick in order for the save. He's now a candidate for more saves, though he has the same sort of control troubles as Wilhelmsen. Even after tonight, he's walked 11 in his last 13 1/3 innings of work. |
