Tue Nov 20 201209:11Braves add C Bethancourt to 40-man roster
Braves purchased the contract of C Christian Bethancourt from Double-A Mississippi.
Bethancourt, 21, batted .243/.275/.291 with two home runs, 26 RBI and a .566 OPS in 71 games at the Double-A level this year. With Brian McCann expected to miss the start of the season following shoulder surgery, he could be an option to begin the season as Gerald Laird's backup.

Sun Aug 12 201208:46Bethancourt suffers season-ending injury
Braves catching prospect Christian Bethancourt broke the fifth metacarpal in his left hand when he was struck by a pitch in Thursday's game with Double-A Mississippi.
It's an injury that will prematurely end what has been a disappointing season. One of the top catcher prospects in the game, Bethancourt also missed more than a month with a hamstring injury earlier this season and wound up hitting just .243/.275/.291 with two homers for Mississippi. He'll likely return there in 2013.

Fri Apr 13 201211:25Rays following Bethancourt 'diligently'
According to ESPN.com's Jayson Stark, the Rays have followed Braves catching prospect Christian Bethancourt "diligently."
The Rays have perhaps the league's worst catching duo in Jose Molina and Jose Lobaton, but Bethancourt would be a long-term answer at backstop, not a short-term solution. He's taken just 29 at-bats above High-A, all of which have come this season. There have been no indications the Braves are actively shopping their possible heir apparent to Brian McCann.

Fri Oct 28 201121:37Braves prospect Bethancourt impresses in AFL
Braves catching prospect Christian Bethancourt hit a three-run home run and caught a would-be base-stealer in a loss to the Phoenix Desert Dogs of the Arizona Fall League on Friday.
Bethancourt was cleared to play after X-rays came back negative on his right hand when he was struck by a pitch on Wednesday. In 99 games between Class A Rome and High-A Lynchburg, he batted .289 with five home runs and 53 RBI. He's currently rated as the Braves No. 4 prospect and is highly-regarded defensively.

Thu Oct 27 201114:19Bethancourt (hand) day-to-day in AFL
Braves prospect catcher Christian Bethancourt is day-to-day after being hit in the hand by a pitch Wednesday while playing in the Arizona Fall League.
X-rays on the hand came back negative, so it shouldn't be a lingering issue. Bethancourt, 20, batted .289/.304/.385 with five home runs, 53 RBI and a .689 OPS over 410 plate appearances this season between Class A Rome and High-A Lynchburg. He has garnered plenty of hype as a prospect and is highly-regarded defensively, but his plate discipline obviously needs some work.
