Sat May 31 201400:21Oberholtzer stifles Orioles to net second win
Brett Oberholtzer stifled the Orioles offensive attack in Friday's victory, surrendering just one run on four hits over seven strong frames.
Oberholtzer struck out just one without walking a batter on the evening. The only run that they could muster came on an RBI single off the bat of J.J. Hardy in the second inning. Even with the nice effort though, Oberholtzer still owns a 4.76 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 40/12 K/BB ratio through 51 innings on the season and should probably be avoided for Thursday's matchup against the Angels.

Wed May 28 201410:35Brett Oberholtzer to remain in rotation
The Astros will go with a six-man rotation for at least one more turn.
That means Brett Oberholtzer, who pitched well in a spot start Saturday, will get another start rather than go to the bullpen. Even if he pitches well his next time out, the southpaw could be bound for relief or Triple-A.

Sun May 25 201401:50Brett Oberholtzer strikes out eight Mariners
Brett Oberholtzer finally notched his first win of the year after allowing three runs -- two earned -- in six innings against the Mariners on Saturday.
He struck out a season-high eight. Oberholtzer was 0-6 with a 5.68 ERA in seven starts for the Astros before being sent down on May 9. This was supposed to be just a spot start for him, but perhaps he's earned his way back into Houston's rotation. We'll see.

Sat May 24 201402:36Astros call up Oberholtzer to start Saturday
Astros recalled LHP Brett Oberholtzer from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Oberholtzer, who was demoted on May 9, will make a spot start Saturday against the Mariners. He had a 3.75 ERA in two starts for the RedHawks after going 0-6 with a 5.68 ERA in seven starts for Houston.

Fri May 9 201413:57Brett Oberholtzer optioned to Triple-A
Astros optioned LHP Brett Oberholtzer to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Oberholtzer is the odd man out with Scott Feldman returning from the disabled list. The left-hander certainly can't make a case that he was given the boot unfairly, as he held a 5.68 ERA over seven starts. He should get another shot later this summer.

Tue May 6 201423:16Oberholtzer falls to 0-6 with loss to Tigers
Brett Oberholtzer fell to 0-6, allowing four runs in six innings in Tuesday's start against the Tigers.
Oberholtzer's six losses lead baseball, ignominiously so. While Oberholtzer hasn't pitched well -- he has a 5.68 ERA -- the Astros scored just one run while he was the pitcher of record Tuesday, and had scored eight runs total for him in his six starts entering the night. Overall, Overholtzer allowed nine hits, including a solo home run to Miguel Cabrera, and issued one walk while striking out four. If Oberholtzer wants to grab his first win in his next start, he'll have to do it on the road against the Orioles.

Wed Apr 30 201423:30Brett Oberholtzer gives up six runs in loss
Brett Oberholtzer gave up six runs and 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Nationals.
Oberholtzer might be due for a Triple-A stint after his latest loss. It's hardly entirely his fault that he's 0-5, but his 5.62 ERA and 1.56 WHIP are less than impressive. The Astros could send him down with Scott Feldman coming back.

Thu Apr 24 201423:58Oberholtzer struggles vs. A's, falls to 0-4
Brett Oberholtzer took his fourth loss of the season after allowing six runs in 3 2/3 innings in Thursday's start against the Athletics.
Oberholtzer had been on a roll for the Astros, but the A's put the kibosh on that. The lefty surrendered eight hits -- including two home runs -- and walked two while striking out four. Home runs hadn't been much of a problem for him entering the start. He'll try to turn things around against the Nationals next.

Sat Apr 19 201419:20Brett Oberholtzer pitches well in no-decision
Brett Oberholtzer held the A's to one run in 5 2/3 innings Saturday in a no-decision.
Chad Qualls blew the save and took the loss as the A's rallied in the bottom of the ninth. Oberholtzer surrendered eight hits and two walks, but did well in damage control. The 24-year-old left-hander is 0-3 but owns a nice 3.04 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 23 2/3 innings this season. He'll hope for better luck next week when he faces the A's again at home.

Tue Apr 8 201422:14Oberholtzer gets the loss against the Jays
Brett Oberholtzer allowed three runs in 5 1/3 innings and took home the loss in Tuesday's start against the Blue Jays.
Oberholtzer wasn't awful, allowing only three hits, but he walked three and served up Jose Bautista's fourth homer of the year in the first inning. The lefty also struck out three. Oberholtzer had decent results in a small sample of innings last season, but a mediocre ability to generate swings and misses may hamper his ability to enjoy success in the long term.

Thu Apr 3 201423:41Brett Oberholtzer loses to Yankees
Brett Oberholtzer took a loss to the Yankees after allowing three runs in 5 2/3 innings on Thursday.
That's still quite an improvement over the 11.00 ERA he posted this spring. Oberholtzer allowed five hits, walked one and struck out five tonight. While the performance tonight was a step forward, he doesn't come recommended in AL-only leagues.

Sat Mar 22 201416:09Brett Oberholtzer gives up five runs to Cards
Brett Oberholtzer, named the Astros' No. 3 starter earlier this week, struggled again Saturday, giving up five runs in five innings against the Cardinals.
Oberholtzer was able to bounce back from a four-run first, but he did give up a homer to Matt Adams in the third. He has an 11.00 ERA through three spring starts, and he's not recommended in AL-only leagues this year.

Fri Mar 7 201416:51Brett Oberholtzer gives up six runs to Nats
Brett Oberholtzer was pounded for six runs -- five earned -- in two innings by the Nationals on Friday.
A rotation spot is Oberholtzer's to lose this spring after he went 4-5 with a 2.76 ERA in 10 starts and three relief appearances as a rookie, but we're not particularly optimistic that an encore performance is on the way. He gave up homers to Bryce Harper and Wilson Ramos today.

Fri Sep 27 201323:20Oberholtzer pitches well in loss to Yankees
Brett Oberholtzer pitched well in a losing effort against the Yankees on Friday, allowing two runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings.
Oberholtzer walked just one and fanned four on the evening. All of the damage against him came in a three-run rally in the fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run double by David Adams. The 24-year-old southpaw has burst onto the scene with an impressive rookie campaign, posting a 4-5 record, 2.76 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 45/13 K/BB ratio over 71 2/3 innings. The advanced metrics suggest that he may be pitching over his head a bit, and the strikeout totals don't jump off the page, but Oberholtzer will certainly be worth a late-round flyer next year if he secures a spot in the Astros rotation.

Fri Sep 20 201322:51Oberholtzer goes six innings in loss to CLE
Brett Oberholtzer gave up two unearned runs over six innings Friday in a loss to the Indians.
Oberholtzer didn't get much help from his defense, as they committed three errors behind him. The southpaw allowed four hits and three walks while striking out a pair. His ERA sits at a surprising 2.71 through nine starts and three relief appearances. Meanwhile, he has walked just 12 batters in 66 1/3 innings. There might not be much fantasy upside here, but he has made a favorable impression for a rotation spot in 2014.

Sat Sep 14 201322:39Oberholtzer yields four runs in loss to Halos
Brett Oberholtzer was pounded for four runs in six innings Saturday as the Astros lost to the Angels.
It was a night of regression for the 24-year-old lefty. He had rattled off two straight dominant outings and also put together some good pitching lines in August, but it never seemed meant to last. Oberholtzer shouldn't be trusted in standard fantasy leagues for his next turn in the Astros' rotation next week in Cleveland.

Sat Sep 7 201319:09Oberholtzer goes six strong but Astros lose
Brett Oberholtzer held the A's to one run in six innings Saturday but the Astros lost.
It was another impressive performance for the 24-year-old left-hander, who threw his first career shutout last Sunday against the Mariners. Oberholtzer has a stellar 2.65 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 35/7 K/BB ratio in his first 54 1/3 major league innings. He's worth a try in standard mixed leagues for his start next week versus the Angels.

Sun Sep 1 201318:40Oberholtzer deals 1st shutout, beats Mariners
Brett Oberholtzer tossed a four-hitter -- his first career complete game and first career shutout -- against the Mariners on Sunday.
Oberholtzer punched out five and issued one free pass. The sheer dominance of this outing was unexpected, to say the least. First off, no Astros starter had pitched a complete game all season. Secondly, Oberholtzer had surrendered eight runs on 15 hits over his last two starts. And lastly, the southpaw had never pitched more than seven innings prior to today. The 24-year-old improves to 4-1 with a 2.79 ERA, numbers he'll attempt to defend on Saturday in Oakland.

Fri Aug 2 201318:22Oberholtzer to start Monday against Red Sox
Brett Oberholtzer will start Monday against the Red Sox.
As expected, Lucas Harrell will head back to the bullpen. Oberholtzer is worthy of the opportunity, as he tossed seven shutout innings in Wednesday's win over the Orioles. It will be tough to trust him against Boston, but the southpaw is worth a flier in some AL-only leagues.

Fri Aug 2 201317:25Astros list Oberholtzer as starting pitcher
The Astros have listed Brett Oberholtzer as a starting pitcher.
Meanwhile, Lucas Harrell is listed as a reliever. While there's nothing official yet, this would seem to indicate that Oberholtzer will get an extended chance in the rotation. It's worth a shot, as the 24-year-old southpaw tossed seven scoreless innings in Wednesday's win over the Orioles.
