Walters (ribs) was able to stretch prior to Wednesday's game but remained out of the lineup, MLB.com reports.
Consider Walters day-to-day for now but this could develop into something that sidelines him for the bulk of the remainder of the season.

Walters (ribs) is day-to-day with rib soreness after an MRI revealed no structural damage, MLB.com reports. "Structurally, he's good, so we know it's a soft tissue issue," manager Terry Francona said. "We just have to see how he responds. The trainers think this might be pretty quick."
Walters exited Monday's game early but has apparently been dealing with the injury for a few days now. He's stuck in a 3-for-35 skid at the plate which has really cut into his playing time lately as well.
Tue Sep 16 201418:40Walters out of Indians' lineup Tuesday against Astros
Walters is out of the Indians' lineup Tuesday against the Astros.
Tuesday's absence will mark Walters' eighth in the team's last 10 games. The 25-year-old got off to a great start with Cleveland after being shipped from Washington at the deadline, with six homers in his first 13 games with the club, but he's just 3-for-his-last-35 and will likely only play sporadically over the remainder of the season.
Wed Sep 10 201415:29Walters out of lineup against Twins
Walters is out of the lineup against the Twins.
Walters has been losing playing time lately, as this will mark the fourth time since the start of September that he won't be in the starting lineup. He's struggled for much of the year, slashing just .163/.221/.400 since joining the team, and he's just 2-for-17 this month, so he may continue to lose more starts going forward.
Sun Sep 7 201410:31Walters out of lineup Sunday against White Sox
Walters is out of the lineup Sunday against the White Sox, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports.
Walters' issues with making contact have loosened his grip on a regular role with the Tribe, as he'll sit for the second consecutive day. The rookie possesses as much power potential as any player on the team, but it'll be hard for him to get on base with any regularity if he continues to strikeout in 35.2 percent of his plate appearances.
Sat Sep 6 201415:21Walters not in lineup for Saturday's game against White Sox
Walters is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox, according to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian.
Walters started the last three games, but he will get a day off Saturday. Walters has nine home runs in 115 at-bats, but he owns just a .183 batting average and .248 OBP on the season.
Mon Sep 1 201413:33Walters out of lineup Monday against Tigers
Walters is out of the lineup Monday against the Tigers, Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Walters was out of the lineup Sunday as well. He has lived up to the reputation of the home run hitter he is since joining the Indians, hitting six in just 63 at-bats. He also has struck out 23 times in 63 at-bats, and is hitting just .175 with the club. He may lose playing time in September with the new call-ups and expanded roster, with Jesus Aguilar getting the start as the designated hitter Monday and batting eighth for the Indians.

Walters provided the heroics in Tuesday's victory over the White Sox, going 2-for-4 with a game-winning two-run homer.
With nine homers in just 94 plate appearance in the majors this season, Walters has more than lived up to his billing as a power threat. While he'll continue to enjoy regular at-bats as the team's DH the rest of the way, Walters' long-term potential as an everyday player remains in question due to a lack of contact skills that could make him prone to slumps. He's currently carrying a 33 percent strikeout rate.

Walters went 1-for-3 with a solo homer Friday -- his third in as many days -- as the Indians fell to the Astros.
Serving as the Tribe's DH, Walters hit a solo shot against Houston starter Brad Peacock. As long as he continues to swing a hot bat, Walters should benefit from the absence of Nick Swisher during the final five-plus weeks of the season.
Thu Aug 21 201422:27Walters homered for second consecutive game Thursday
Walters homered for the second consecutive game Thursday.
Walters has four homers in his last eight games and figures to see ample playing time in the final six weeks with Nick Swisher sidelined for the rest of the season. He's likely middle infield eligible in many formats and provides some power upside.

Walters was 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Cleveland's win over the Orioles on Friday night.
He's now got five long ones and has displayed a flair for the dramatic. An infielder by trade, the Indians have used him in the outfield, and he was the designated hitter in this one so his versatility is expanding. The Indians will continue to find a spot for him in the lineup as long as he keeps coming up with key hits.

Walters started both games of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Diamondbacks, going a collective 2-for-8 with a homer, two runs, and a walk.
Walters' homer came in the ninth-inning of the first game of the doubleheader, giving the Indians a walk-off, 3-2 victory. Though an infielder by trade, Walters saw both of his starts Wednesday in left field, where he could continue to see regular duty while the Indians have all of Michael Bourn, Nick Swisher and David Murphy on the disabled list.
Sun Aug 10 201419:42Walter 0-3 with walk in Sunday's win over Yankees
Walter went 0-for-3 with a walk in Sunday's win over the Yankees.
Walters left the game late for a pinch-runner in Tyler Holt. With the Indians losing two outfielders to the DL on Sunday, Walters will probably continue to play out of position during this callup.

Walters was recalled from Triple-A on Sunday and will start in left field for the Indians, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports.
Walters was one of two recalled Sunday to replace David Murphy and Nick Swisher on the active roster, who went on the disabled list. The 24-year-old utility player was acquired from the Nationals on July 31 and will get a chance to see some big league action with the Indians. He struggled his first go around in the majors this season, batting just .205, but hit three home runs in 39 at-bats and shows promise for the future.
Thu Jul 31 201418:20Walters optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Thursday
Walters was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Thursday.
Walters was acquired Thursday as part of the Asdrubal Cabrera deal, but as expected, he won't be given a chance to compete immediately for a starting spot with the Major League club. He'll likely see an opportunity to compete for a more prominent role next spring.

Walters was traded to the Indians on Thursday in exchange for Asdrubal Cabrera, Nick Camino of Newsradio WTAM 1100 reports.
Walters is capable of playing multiple positions across the infield, but it doesn't appear he'll be given the opportunity to fill the immediate void at shortstop, with Francisco Lindor or Jose Ramirez the likely top options to replace Cabrera. As a result, utility duty or a move to Triple-A Columbus could be in store for Walters. The 24-year-old has fully proved himself in the minors with a .965 OPS at the Triple-A level earlier this year, but has slashed just .234/.308/.489 over 47 career at-bats in the majors.
