Wed Apr 10 201321:21John Danks reaches 89 mph
John Danks (shoulder) topped out at 89 mph during his third extended spring training start on Tuesday.
"I think it was like 89 [mph]. He was sitting around 87 before, so he was up around 89, which is good," said White Sox manager Robin Ventura. "He threw well. He threw six innings. Got a little bit more on his velocity. Threw well, felt great." Danks sat in the 90-91 mph range consistently before shoulder surgery, so he's still got some work to do, but he's at least trending in the right direction. There's no timeable for his return to the White Sox' rotation.

John Danks (shoulder) allowed one run over five innings during an extended spring training game Thursday.
He threw 77 pitches. There's no word on how hard Danks was throwing or how his stuff looked, but the results were good, at least. The White Sox are hoping he'll be ready to rejoin the rotation by the end of April. Dylan Axelrod is keeping a rotation spot warm for him.

John Danks (shoulder) is scheduled to pitch in a minor league game Sunday.

Wed Mar 20 201319:05John Danks will begin season on disabled list
John Danks (shoulder) will begin the season on the disabled list.
It was expected, and now it's official. Danks insists that his surgically-repaired shoulder is fine, but he has a 16.36 spring ERA and a 2.91 spring WHIP, and he has displayed diminished velocity in recent outings. The White Sox will use either Hector Santiago or Dylan Axelrod as a placeholder in the rotation, with Axelrod looking like the early favorite to get the nod.

Wed Mar 20 201313:19Danks still slated to pitch Sunday
White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper said that John Danks is still slated to make his next start on Sunday.
Danks has really struggled this spring coming off shoulder surgery, posting a 16.36 ERA over 11 innings while showing diminished velocity, but the White Sox want him to get his work. Still, it's likely that he'll begin the season on the disabled list, with either Dylan Axelrod or Hector Santiago taking his place in the starting rotation.

Tue Mar 19 201318:12Danks blasted again, spring ERA now 16.36
John Danks was roughed up again Tuesday, surrendering 10 runs on 11 hits and two walks over 3 1/3 innings against the Reds.
Yikes. Danks, who is coming back from shoulder surgery, now sports a 16.36 ERA and 2.91 WHIP over 11 frames this spring, and he's allowed a whopping 27 hits. His fastball has also failed to crack 90 mph. The left-hander says he feels fine physically, but the White Sox could choose to place him on the disabled list to start the season while he works out his issues. Hector Santiago would be an option to fill his rotation spot.

Fri Mar 15 201323:07John Danks could begin season on DL
Despite the fact that John Danks says he feels well, the White Sox haven't been pleased with the way he's throwing the ball, and he could begin the season on the DL.
Danks was hammered for six runs in 3 1/3 innings against the Angels on Saturday, and hasn't completely regained his velocity coming back from shoulder surgery. The White Sox do have capable fill-ins in the event Danks isn't ready to begin the regular season, so they would be wise not to rush him. He remains an extremely risky proposition in fantasy leagues.

Thu Mar 14 201319:34Danks gives up six runs in loss to Angels
John Danks was tagged for six runs over 3 1/3 innings Thursday against the Angels.
Danks gave up seven hits -- including a solo homer to Mike Trout - while walking one and striking out a pair. He threw 38 out of 61 pitches for strikes. This was his second straight shaky outing, which isn't unexpected coming off shoulder surgery. That's exactly why he should be off the radar in mixed leagues for now.

Mon Mar 4 201319:07John Danks makes spring debut
John Danks allowed a run on two hits over two innings in his Cactus League debut Monday.
The left-hander didn't record any walks or strikeouts. Danks has been brought along slowly as he makes his way back from shoulder surgery, but he's not far behind the other pitchers in camp. He'll be ready to roll for the start of the season.

Fri Mar 1 201314:59John Danks slated for Cactus debut on Monday
John Danks (shoulder) is scheduled to make his Cactus League debut on Monday.
Recovering from August shoulder surgery, Danks has thrown multiple bullpen and live batting practice sessions without encountering any setbacks. He obviously still has plenty of time to get ready for the beginning of the season. The left-hander is a risky fantasy option, though, coming off of surgery and a sub-par 2012 campaign.

Tue Jan 15 201315:16John Danks (shoulder) throwing off mound
John Danks (shoulder) has begun throwing off a mound.
Danks has thrown 40 pitches three times per week since January 2, including 30 fastballs and 10 changeups. While he has felt good enough to increase his workload, the White Sox want him to take it easy for now. "My top priority is getting healthy, which is why on the same day I'm throwing and doing my shoulder program, I'm still doing my workout and conditioning," said Danks, who had arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder last August. "Right now, I feel like I'm as good as I can be. Coming off surgery and whatnot, I feel ready to go." The White Sox will likely be cautious with him in the early part of spring training, but he's expected to be ready for the regular season barring setbacks.

Thu Nov 1 201219:14Danks hopes to be ready for start of spring
John Danks (shoulder) has already had two throwing sessions.
Danks wasn't supposed to resume throwing until Thursday, but the White Sox decided to push up the timetable a bit. He made 20 throws from 45 feet and 15 tosses from 60 feet Monday before bumping up his reps a bit Wednesday. "We did it so my schedule is lined up to throw off a mound after Jan. 1," Danks said. "So far, so good. It feels like I haven't thrown in a while, but it's a positive step." The lefty added that he was checked out by doctors last week, and they were "very pleased" with his progress from arthroscopic shoulder surgery. Barring a setback, he should be on a pretty normal routine in spring training.

Tue Oct 30 201219:26John Danks to resume throwing Thursday
John Danks (shoulder) is scheduled to resume throwing on Thursday.
Danks is coming back from early August arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder. Dan Hayes of CSNChicago.com reports that the left-hander is "healthy and on track," though obviously more will be known about his status after he's throwing again. With Jake Peavy and Gavin Floyd returning and Dank hopefully coming back healthy, the Sox should have a formidable rotation in 2013.
