Tampa Bay Rays shortstop/third baseman Matt Duffy is expected to undergo season-ending surgery this week to repair his left Achilles' tendon. The Achilles' injury bothered Duffy most of the season, and with the Rays not in the race for a playoff berth, it made sense to have the procedure performed soon so that he will be ready for spring training,Duffy was acquired from the San Francisco Giants at the trade deadline. He hit .276 with one homer in 21 games for the Rays this season after going deep four times in 70 contests with the Giants.

Duffy went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, a steal and two runs scored in a 5-0 win over the Dodgers on Wednesday.
This performance brought Duffy's average to an even .300 and he continues to impress. With 12 homers, 28 doubles, 12 steals and 76 RBI, Duffy is becoming a must own in every format. The problem is that he showed no power in the minors or in college and it's tough to gauge if this is sustainable next season.

Duffy went 1-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in a 5-4 loss to Oakland on Friday.
The breakout season continues for Duffy, as he recorded his 11th homer and 73rd RBI on Friday. All the numbers across the board are great, as he has a .299 average and 11 steals to go along with hat nice RBI total. Duffy showed almost no power in college and in the minors and it remains to be seen if he can maintain this going into next season.

Duffy collected three hits Thursday, including a double and a pair of stolen bases in the loss to the Padres.
Duffy's 43 extra-base hits ties Buster Posey's rookie mark in 2010. Now we aren't saying that Duffy is going to develop into the caliber of player Posey has become, but it goes to show what a surprising rookie campaign he has put together. He is firmly entrenched in the Rookie of the Year conversation with a .299/.339/.429 slash line, 10 homers, and 11 stolen bases in 531 at-bats.

Duffy went 2-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and a run scored in a blowout win over the Padres.
Duffy continues to be a breakout player for the Giants this season as he seemingly produces night after night. The two-hit performance raised his average to an even .300 and he now has 68 RBI in 128 games played this season. For a player who showed no power in the minors or in college, a regression seems very likely.

Duffy had a great night at the plate Saturday, going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in as the Giants enjoyed a 7-3 win over the Rockies.
Duffy has been an unlikely catalyst of San Francisco's offense, batting third in 42 games this season. The 24-year-old's numbers are inflated by a .346 BABIP, but Duffy has still managed to post an impressive .340 wOBA. Duffy has exceeded expectations this season, but will likely need to provide more power and speed to become a highly-valued mixed league commodity.

Duffy (ankle) is in the lineup Thursday batting second, CSN Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic reports.
He sprained his right ankle early in Wednesday's game but was able to stay in for the rest of the contest. Post-game X-rays were negative so Duffy will not be forced to miss any time with the minor ankle injury.

Duffy continued his modest six-game hit streak Saturday, going 1-for-3 with a run and a stolen base in the loss to the Pirates.
The steal was just Duffy's sixth of the season, which seems low after swiping 20 or more bags in each of his last two minor league seasons. But his rookie campaign has been anything but orthodox, as Duffy had also never hit double-digit home runs in a season during his minor league career, but has already hit that mark in a little over two-thirds of the way through his rookie campaign, all while maintaining a batting average north of .300.

Duffy was fantastic yet again on Saturday, going 2-for-5 with two doubles, four RBI and two runs scored in a 12-6 win over the Nationals.
A player who failed to record a home run in his college career is one of the hottest players in baseball right now. Duffy has been amazing over his last two games, recording five hits including two doubles, a homer, and seven RBI. Look for him to continue this success, just not at this rate.

Duffy was fantastic Friday, going 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and a walk in an 8-5 win over the Nationals.
Duffy has been one of the surprises of the season and he has surpassed whatever Pablo Sandoval was giving them in previous years. Since the beginning of August, Duffy has five doubles to go along with a .302 average. The only thing he could work on is his low walk rate, as he's only walked 17 times in 376 at-bats.

Duffy went 4-for-5 with a double, a run, and RBI, and a stolen bag in Tuesday's win over the Braves.
Duffy stuffed the stat sheet Tuesday, extending his modest six-game hitting streak. He continues to show a great ability to make contact at the major league level, and it seems as though his first half success was not a fluke. Duffy doesn't offer a whole lot of power and speed, but he does just enough in those categories to supplement his high batting average and run creating categories.

Duffy went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored Saturday in Arlington.
Duffy's breakout season continues. The sophomore third baseman is showing no signs of slowing down, as he starts August with a bang following a month of July in which he hit .316. Duffy is getting plenty of protection hitting third in the lineup in front of Buster Posey, and he continues to give manager Bruce Bochy plenty of reasons to keep him right there.
Mon Jul 27 201512:06Duffy 2-4 with three-run home run Sunday against Athletics
Duffy went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run Sunday against the Athletics.
The 24-year-old has been a revelation for the Giants since being promoted this year and has boosted his average back over the .300 mark to go along with nine homers and 46 RBI. Duffy is the undisputed starter at the hot corner for the Giants and should continue to put up solid counting stats from the middle of the order.
Sun Jul 19 201517:47Duffy 3-5, scoring twice in win over Diamondbacks on Saturday
Duffy went 3-for-5, scoring twice in the win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday.
Duffy continues to thrive in the three hole for the Giants, delivering three hits or more in four of his last five games. He isn't walking a whole lot (4.4 BB%), but he is making solid contact (81.9%) with a line drive rate (21.2%) right around the league average. Duffy's .302/.341/.468 slash line has been useful as a third baseman, but he has been a real steal for those in leagues where he has middle infield eligibility.

Duffy went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, two RBI and a run scored against the Phillies on Saturday.
The 24-year-old third baseman finished a home run short of the cycle in another one of many outstanding performances from his breakout 2015 season. Duffy has preyed on the weak Philadelphia pitching to the tune of a 7-for-11 start to a three-game set that concludes on Sunday. The young slugger could stand to be a bit more patient at the plate (4.6 percent walk rate), but it's hard to argue with an approach that has Duffy slashing .298/.339/.469 with one game to go before the All-Star break.
Sun Jul 5 201516:37Duffy out of lineup Sunday against Nationals
Duffy is out of the lineup Sunday against the Nationals.
Duffy earned the primary third baseman role by producing consistently at the plate, but he's struggled over the past few games (1-for-12). The combination of that plus a long string of starts in a row likely led to his day off Sunday. Ehire Adrianza will receive the start in his place, batting eighth for the Giants.

Duffy batted third and went 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored, and his third stolen base of the season Wednesday.
With injuries to Hunter Pence (arm) and Nori Aoki (leg), Duffy has been batting in the middle of the Giants' lineup. The premier spot in the batting order shows manager Bruce Bochy's confidence in his rookie third baseman, and he has not disappointed with four multi-hit games over the Giants' last six games.
