Sun May 1 201112:06Kevin Millwood expected to opt out of deal
The Yankees are expecting Kevin Millwood to opt out of his minor league contract Sunday.
No surprise here. Millwood had a clause inserted into the deal that allowed him to opt out on May 1, and he is not needed by the Yankees right now, nor is he pitching well enough to warrant a call-up.

Sun May 1 201109:29Millwood likely to opt out of deal with Yanks
The Yankees have yet to discuss with Kevin Millwood the possibility of staying in the organization if he isn't promoted Sunday.
Millwood has an opt out clause that he can exercise if he's not up by May 1, and at this point he seems as good as gone. He was knocked around in his last start at Triple-A, and with Freddy Garcia and Bartolo Colon pitching well, it doesn't appear the Yankees will need him anytime soon.

Sat Apr 30 201108:27Orioles monitoring Kevin Millwood
The Orioles are monitoring the status of Kevin Millwood, but there doesn't appear to be serious interest in bringing him back to Baltimore.
Millwood is likely to opt out of his deal by Sunday if he's not called up by the Yankees, which almost surely isn't going to happen. The O's are looking for some pitching depth, but it appears Millwood isn't really on their radar, as they've yet to send anyone to see him pitch.

Mon Apr 25 201112:13Millwood can opt out of deal after next start
Kevin Millwood can opt out of his deal with the Yankees if he's not promoted after his next start.
Millwood threw seven scoreless innings at Double-A Trenton in mid-April and fired seven innings of two-run ball on Saturday at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Those results are nice, but ESPN's Buster Olney is hearing from scouts that the veteran's stuff has not looked good. The Yanks really don't have a need for him right now.

Sat Apr 23 201115:34Millwood has another nice Triple-A start
Kevin Millwood allowed just two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out three over seven innings Saturday for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
He was mostly in the 85-86 mph range with his fastball, touching 89 mph once. But, Millwood was able to follow up his seven scoreless innings in his first Triple-A start well. He can opt out of his deal with the Yankees on May 1 if he's not called up, and if it comes to that, we wouldn't blame him for doing so with the start he's gotten off to.

Sun Apr 17 201115:42Kevin Millwood terrific in rehab outing
Kevin Millwood allowed just one hit while tossing seven scoreless innings in a start for Double-A Trenton Sunday.
He did walk four while striking out three, but it was quite a debut from a veteran that supposed looked "terrible" in extended spring training. Millwood still needs a few more minor league outings, and there's not a spot in the Yankees rotation open for the moment. He can opt out of his deal by May 1 if he's not up with the big club.

Sun Apr 17 201109:28Kevin Millwood to start at Double-A Sunday
Kevin Millwood will make a start for Double-A Trenton Sunday.
It will be his first outing, as he's been in extended spring training after being signed to a minor league contract late in late March. One scout recently told ESPN's Jayson Stark that Millwood looked "terrible" in extended spring, but we'll have a better idea how effective he might be once he pitches in some games that count.

Fri Apr 15 201114:36Kevin Millwood looks 'terrible'
One scout that recently saw Kevin Millwood told ESPN's Jayson Stark that the veteran looked "terrible."
"He looks terrible," the scout said. "Here's a guy who used to throw 94-95 [mph]. Now he's throwing 86." Millwood has been pitching in extended spring training in order to get his arm back in shape, so perhaps it will just take him a little more time. But, reportedly the main reason the Cardinals chose to pass on him after the Adam Wainwright injury was because they were worried about the lack of pep on his fastball. Millwood can opt out of his deal if he's not up by May 1, and it sounds like he's got a ways to go.

Wed Apr 13 201109:04Millwood makes second minor league start
Kevin Millwood threw 75 pitches over five-plus innings Tuesday in his second extended spring training start.
He gave up four runs -- three earned -- on seven hits against a lineup of Phillies' farmhands. The veteran right-hander felt good following the outing and said he could pitch for Double-A Trenton or Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Millwood can opt out of his minor league contract on May 1 if he is not added to the big league roster.

Sun Apr 3 201108:43Kevin Millwood struggles in minors game
Kevin Millwood struggled in a minor league spring training game Saturday, needing 48 pitches to get through two innings.
Millwood is trying to build up his pitch count after signing a minor league deal with the Yanks late in spring training. He's not expected to be ready for a call-up until sometime in May and will need an injury or someone in the rotation to struggle before he gets a shot.

Fri Mar 25 201113:14Millwood's contract carries $1.5M base
Kevin Millwood's new contract with the Yankees carries a $1.5 million base salary.
Millwood will only get a prorated amount of that, however, because he is not expected to reach the major leagues until May or later. The veteran right-hander agreed to the deal on Thursday night and will open at Triple-A.

Fri Mar 25 201109:13Yanks sign Kevin Millwood to minors contract
Yankees signed RHP Kevin Millwood to a minor league contract.
Jon Heyman of SI.com first reported the agreement Thursday night. Millwood is going to head to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre initially to get stretched out and probably won't climb his way to the majors unless Freddy Garcia, Ivan Nova and Bartolo Colon all struggle mightily. If the veteran righty does eventually make his way to the big leagues, his contract will carry performance-based incentives worth around $1 million. He posted a 5.01 ERA in 31 starts last season for the Orioles.

Thu Mar 24 201123:38Yanks close to signing righty Kevin Millwood
According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Yankees are close to signing Kevin Millwood to a minor league deal.
Heyman calls said deal "incentive-laden," meaning it will carry a couple million in performance-based bonuses if he makes it to the major league level and hits certain innings marks. The Yankees will probably ask Millwood to open the season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and attempt to work his way up. He had a 5.10 ERA in 31 starts last year for Baltimore.

Wed Mar 16 201120:51Millwood still holding out for big lg. offer
Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that Kevin Millwood is still holding out for a major league deal.
Millwood threw Wednesday in front of a couple of teams. The Yankees were in attendance but are still only willing to offer the veteran right-hander a minor league contract. Perhaps he will find his major league offer as the regular season draws closer and teams become more desperate for rotation depth.

Wed Feb 23 201118:45Millwood working out at Boras' facility
Kevin Millwood is working out currently at Scott Boras' training facility in Southern California.
"I am just kind of keeping going," Millwood said Wednesday, "staying in shape and getting my arm ready to go when something does happen." The 36-year-old free agent is expected to draw heavy interest from the Cardinals now that they've lost ace Adam Wainwright for the duration of the 2011 season. Millwood might be able to post decent numbers under the guidance of St. Louis pitching coach Dave Duncan.

Wed Feb 23 201109:46Cardinals to go after Kevin Millwood?
According to Buster Olney of ESPN.com, early speculation among rival executives has the Cardinals going after Kevin Millwood.
And with Adam Wainwright possibly headed for Tommy John surgery due to a "significant injury" to his right elbow, this appears to be a pretty good fit. Millwood, 36, posted a 5.10 ERA over 31 starts with the Orioles last season, but would likely benefit with a move to the National League and the pitcher-friendly Busch Stadium. He's no Wainwright, but would at least chew up some innings.

Sun Feb 20 201108:12Report: Kevin Millwood rejects Yankees' offer
The New York Post's Joel Sherman reports that free agent Kevin Millwood recently rejected a minor league offer from the Yankees that was similar to the one given to Freddy Garcia.
Garcia will make $1.5 million if he makes the team, with an additional $3.6 available in incentives. It's not a bad deal, really, but Millwood, of course, wants a guaranteed major league offer. According to Sherman, the Yanks are "adamant" they will not give him one, but the two sides are still talking. Millwood has also drawn interest from the Indians, but they've also balked at his asking price. The 36-year-old might be forced to suck up his pride and take an offer less than what he feels he's worth.

Thu Feb 17 201112:02Report: Yankees still interested in Millwood
The New York Post's Joel Sherman writes that the Yankees retain interest in free agent Kevin Millwood but "remain adamant that they will not pay a significant amount for him."
They won't have to at this point, as Millwood clearly isn't drawing a ton of interest in the open market. The Indians have some interest, as well, but are balking at his $4 million asking price. The 36-year-old went 4-16 while compiling a 5.10 ERA and 1.51 WHIP over 31 starts for the Orioles last season.

Sun Feb 13 201108:16Report: Yanks still after Millwood
SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Yankees are still talking to free agent Kevin Millwood.
Heyman says the two sides still have a ways to go, though. Millwood is reportedly wanting somewhere in the vicinity of $4 million on a one-year deal -- a figure that the Yankees are probably more likely to pay than anyone else. The 36-year-old is coming off a poor season in which he went 4-16 while putting up a 5.10 ERA and 1.51 WHIP over 31 starts.

Fri Feb 11 201116:23Report: Yanks still interested in Millwood
SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Yankees are still interested in free agent Kevin Millwood.
Millwood was reportedly close to a deal with the Indians a week ago, but that proved to be false, as he's still weighing his options. The veteran right-hander is coming off a poor 2010 season where he went 4-16 while posting a 5.10 ERA and 1.51 WHIP over 31 starts, but the Yankees are looking for an innings eater at the back end of their rotation, something Millwood probably has a better chance of providing than Sergio Mitre, Bartolo Colon or Freddy Garcia.
