BOSTON (AP) — Cleveland Indians outfielder Leonys Martin will sit out the rest of the season because of a bacterial infection.Manager Terry Francona revealed the news Wednesday before Cleveland's game against the Boston Red Sox.The 30-year-old Cuban player became ill following a game Aug. 8. Doctors determined he had the life-threatening bacterial infection that entered his bloodstream and created toxins that damaged his internal organs, compromising their function."The news is really good, he is doing fantastic, but he not going to play baseball this year," Francona said, adding that the players updated about his health during a brief meeting. CINCINNATI (AP) — Cleveland Indians outfielder Leonys Martin is recovering from a bacterial infection that team president Chris Antonetti described as "life-threatening."Martin is in stable condition at the Cleveland Clinic. Antonetti provided an update on Martin's status when he addressed the team prior to Monday's series opener against the Reds.Doctors determined Martin had a bacterial infection that entered his bloodstream and created toxins that damaged his internal organs, compromising their function."It was very serious," Antonetti said. CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland Indians president Chris Antonetti isn't sure how long Leonys Martin will be sidelined after the outfielder was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a non-baseball related condition Thursday.Antonetti said Martin, who became sick Tuesday night and didn't play Wednesday night against the Minnesota Twins, could be out for longer than 10 days."He's got an illness that he's working through," Antonetti said. "It happened really quickly. After the game the other night, he just didn't feel well. We're now in the process of getting him assessed and working through the best way to get him healthy."Antonetti wouldn't say if Martin has been hospitalized. CLEVELAND (AP) — The Indians have activated starting first baseman Yonder Alonso from the family medical emergency list.Alonso returned Monday after missing a weekend series against Minnesota. Alonso is batting .248 with 11 homers and 37 RBIs in 65 games for Cleveland, which signed him as a free agent in December.To make room for Alonso, the team optioned outfielder Greg Allen to Triple-A Columbus.The Indians also signed reliever Marc Rzepczynski to a minor league contract and assigned him to the Clippers. The left-hander previously pitched for the Indians from 2013-15, appearing in 145 games. NEW YORK (AP) — With banged-up center fielder Bradley Zimmer out of the lineup, the Cleveland Indians have recalled outfielder Greg Allen from Triple-A Columbus.Allen was set to start in center and bat ninth Sunday against the streaking New York Yankees. To make room for him on the roster, Cleveland optioned right-handed reliever Ben Taylor to Columbus.Zimmer exited Saturday's loss at Yankee Stadium after crashing hard into the fence trying to catch Austin Romine's double. He has a bruised left shoulder and hip but no concussion, manager Terry Francona says.After a day off Monday, the team hopes Zimmer can return to the lineup Tuesday night in Milwaukee. SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Cleveland and Minnesota are both carrying a 26th player on their rosters for their two-game series in Puerto Rico.The Indians recalled outfielder Greg Allen from Triple-A Columbus, a move made official on Tuesday. Allen was on the team's flight to San Juan. He batted .229 in 25 games for Cleveland late last season.For the Twins, the extra player is outfielder Ryan LaMarre, brought up from Triple-A Rochester.
