Tue May 21 201322:20Dirks picks up two hits as Tigers top Indians
Andy Dirks went 2-for-5 with a home run as the Tigers beat the Indians on Tuesday.
The homer was Dirks' fifth, and he drove in two runs on the night. What's more, the outfielder batted leadoff ahead of Torii Hunter and Miguel Cabrera. It's likely temporary until Austin Jackson returns, but if Dirks can continue to get on base he should be in line to score plenty of runs in his new lineup spot.

Mon May 13 201322:23Andy Dirks hits first career grand slam
Andy Dirks went 3-for-4 and hit his first career grand slam Monday versus the Tigers.
If Avisail Garcia stays half as hot in the majors as he was in the minors, then a left field controversy could bloom when Austin Jackson is ready to return. Dirks, though, deserves to keep his spot against right-handers. He's hitting .317 with three homers and seven RBI in May after his rough April.

Andy Dirks went 4-for-4 with a home run in Sunday's win over the Astros.
Dirks got off to a slow start, but it's looking like he's finally healthy after dealing with a lingering knee injury for most of the season. He'll need to continue to produce at a high level with Nick Castellanos waiting in the minors.

Mon Apr 29 201322:30Andy Dirks hits first homer for Tigers
Back in the starting lineup, Andy Dirks went 2-for-3 with a homer and a walk Monday against the Twins.
Dirks hadn't played in five days because of a sore right knee. Some have called for the Tigers to promote Nick Castellanos to play left field, but Dirks is going to produce as long as the team doesn't jerk him around. He should be back in there Tuesday against Vance Worley.

Andy Dirks is currently dealing with a sore right knee.
It's the same knee that Dirks injured during spring training. While it caused him to miss Thursday's game, Tigers manager Jim Leyland isn't sure whether he'll be ready to play Friday. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Tue Mar 19 201315:03Andy Dirks day-to-day with knee contusion
Andy Dirks left Tuesday's Grapefruit League game with a right knee contusion after he banged into the left field wall.
Dirks is considered day-to-day, so he shouldn't be out of action for long. The 27-year-old is expected to get the bulk of at-bats in left field for the Tigers this season, making him an interesting flier in deeper mixed fantasy leagues.

Fri Mar 1 201321:47Dirks (intercostal strain) returns to lineup
Andy Dirks (intercostal strain) returned to the Tigers lineup on Friday, after missing almost a week of action.
The issue wasn't believed to be serious, but the Tigers opted to play it safe, rather than risk further injury. While there have been rumblings that the Tigers could use a platoon situation in left field, Dirks should at a minimum start against most right-handers, and makes for an attractive flier as a fifth outfielder in deeper mixed leagues.

Thu Feb 21 201312:44Dirks likely to start in LF for opener
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Thursday that Andy Dirks will likely start in left field on Opening Day against the Twins.
Dirks will bat sixth, assuming the Twins don't start a left-hander. The 27-year-old batted .322/.370/.487 with eight home runs, 35 RBI and an .857 OPS last season and should be worth owning in deeper mixed leagues, even if he ends up in a platoon.

Fri Nov 16 201223:36Tigers looking for left field platoon option
During Torii Hunter's introductory press conference on Friday, Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski hinted that they may still be looking for a right-handed hitting outfielder to platoon with Andy Dirks in left field.
The Tigers aren't sure whether or not Dirks is an everyday player, and would like to find an option to platoon against left-handed hitting. While they have Avisail Garcia and Nick Castellanos waiting on the farm, they view both as future everyday players, not platoon options in 2013.

Sun Oct 28 201214:56Tigers using regular lineup
Andy Dirks is starting in right field and batting sixth in Sunday's World Series Game 4.
Quintin Berry is playing left field and hitting second, while Delmon Young is in the DH spot and Omar Infante is at the bottom of the order. It's manager Jim Leyland's regular lineup versus right-handed pitching. The Tigers will square off against Matt Cain as they try to stay alive.

Fri Aug 3 201214:32Andy Dirks activated from disabled list
Tigers activated OF Andy Dirks from the 15-day disabled list.
It will be interesting to see how much playing time Dirks receives, as Quintin Berry has provided an occasional spark for the Tigers but is batting just .246/.310/.308 in the second half. Dirks was hitting .328/.379/.515 with four homers in 37 games before going on the DL back in late May, so he certainly deserves to see plenty of starts.

Tue Jul 3 201210:56Dirks (Achilles) still wearing walking boot
Andy Dirks (Achilles) is still wearing a walking boot.
Dirks is currently in shut-down mode as he waits for his right Achilles tendon to heal. "You strain a muscle is one thing; it heals faster because of the blood flow," said Dirks. "In a tendon, especially a big tendon -- tendons take longer to heal. It's tough to put a time frame on it. I'm not doing anything now. It's healing in there and it's going to be all right." The 26-year-old outfielder has already been sidelined for a month and it's now likely that his absence will stretch well into the second half.
