Sun Sep 4 201123:26Andy Dirks homers off bench
Andy Dirks had a two-run homer and a two-run single off the bench in Sunday's rout of the White Sox.
Dirks didn't start against left-hander Mark Buehrle, but he pounded the ball when he got his chance. He'll compete with Magglio Ordonez for at-bats against right-handers for the rest of the month. Ordonez figures to play against every lefty.

Thu Sep 1 201109:26Tigers recall OF Dirks from minors
Tigers recalled OF Andy Dirks from Triple-A Toledo.
Dirks was booted to the minors after Delmon Young was acquired last month, but we figured he wouldn't be gone for long. The 25-year-old rookie is batting .257/.301/.411 with six homers, 21 RBI and four stolen bases over 188 plate appearances with the Tigers this season. He is useful outfield depth to have around, especially in light of Brennan Boesch's thumb injury.

Fri Aug 19 201122:01Tigers demote OF Dirks
Tigers optioned outfielder Andy Dirks to Triple-A Toledo.
It was pretty much a given that this was coming after the Delmon Young acquisition. Dirks looks like a pretty useful player, and with a .257/.301/.411 line, six homers and 21 RBI in 175 at-bats, he wasn't doing a bad job as a rookie. Still, there just isn't any playing time available for him at the moment.

Thu Jul 28 201117:09Andy Dirks knocks in two runs
Andy Dirks had two hits, two RBI and an outfield assist Thursday versus the Angels.
The Tigers should be finding more at-bats for Dirks, who was starting just his second game in 10 days. He hasn't been a star with his .258 average to date, but he is showing more than either Magglio Ordonez or Ryan Raburn at the plate and he's an asset on defense.

Thu Jun 30 201116:44Andy Dirks homers in 3rd straight for Tigers
Andy Dirks went 2-for-3 with his sixth homer and his third steal Thursday against the Mets.
Dirks was expected to see a reduced role with Magglio Ordonez back, but now he has homered in three straight games. It's not going to be easy for the Tigers to keep all of their outfielders busy, but Dirks has been quite impressive in his limited role.

Andy Dirks hit the first home run of his major-league career on Monday evening, tagging Tampa Bay's Jeremy Hellickson for a solo shot in the fifth inning of a Tigers victory.
Dirks is batting a solid .278 over his first 18 at-bats, and is well worth a flier in AL-only leagues after posting a .328/.375/.527 slash in 145 plate appearances for Triple-A Toledo this season.

Fri May 13 201114:58Andy Dirks called up
Tigers purchased the contract of OF Andy Dirks from Triple-A Toledo.
Dirks impressed the Tigers with a strong spring training and was off to a terrific start with Toledo, batting .328/.375/.527 with six home runs. He should get a chance at some playing time with Magglio Ordonez going on the DL. Dirks, 25, has never appeared in a major league game.

Mon Mar 7 201116:09Tigers' Dirks triples, doubles in victory
Andy Dirks tripled and doubled to knock in both Tigers runs in a 2-1 victory over the Mets on Monday.
The 25-year-old Dirks put himself on the radar by hitting .375/.398/.648 with four homers in 88 at-bats in Triple-A at the end of last season, and he's continued to improve his stock by opening the spring 11-for-23 with four doubles and two triples. He's in the mix for a spot on Detroit's bench.

Fri Feb 25 201109:04Dirks has shot at backup outfield gig
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Thursday that Andy Dirks is in the running for a backup outfield gig.
Dirks was rated the Tigers' 11th-best prospect by Baseball America earlier this winter. He slugged 15 home runs and tallied 63 RBI in 120 games between Double-A and Triple-A in 2010. "Very impressive," is how Leyland described the 25-year-old in camp Thursday.
