Thu Nov 3 201108:45Dodgers, Juan Rivera agree on new contract
According to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com, the Dodgers and Juan Rivera have agreed to a one-year, $4.5 million contract.
The contract is pending a physical. We learned earlier this week that the two sides were closing in on a new deal. Rivera, 33, batted .273/.333/.406 with five homers, 46 RBI and a .740 OPS over 246 plate appearances after being acquired by the Dodgers in July. He should see most of his playing time in left field next season, but could also be an option at first base depending upon what the Dodgers do with James Loney this winter.

Tue Nov 1 201121:00Dodgers, Juan Rivera closing in on new deal
According to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times, the Dodgers are closing in on a new contract with Juan Rivera.
The two sides are discussing a one-year deal with a club option for 2013. Rivera, 33, played well after being acquired by the Dodgers in July, batting .273/.333/.406 with five homers, 46 RBI and a .740 OPS over 246 plate appearances. He would likely be the favorite to play left field in 2012 if he returns, but he could also be a possibility for first base if the Dodgers non-tender James Loney.

Mon Sep 19 201106:45Juan Rivera: 3-for-4 with four RBI
Juan Rivera had a monster night at the plate on Sunday, finishing 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI.
The change of scenery certainly has paid off for Rivera, whose .785 OPS while playing for L.A. is 119 points higher than during his tenure with Toronto. His 32/19 K/BB mark also is much improved.

Thu Sep 8 201116:57Juan Rivera knocks in four runs for Dodgers
Juan Rivera knocked in four runs with a pair of doubles in the Dodgers' 7-4 win over the Nationals on Thursday.
Rivera supplied all of the offense in the first eight innings, but it was Tony Gwynn Jr. who broke a tie with a two-run double in the ninth, giving the Dodgers a 6-4 lead. Rivera figured to be staring at less playing time down the stretch with Jerry Sands up, but now that Andre Ethier has been ruled out for the rest of the month, it's a good bet that Rivera will be in there most days.

Sat Sep 3 201122:42Rivera hits game-winning sac fly
Juan Rivera hit a game-winning sacrifice fly in the 10th inning of Saturday's 2-1 win over the Braves.
Rivera's sac fly scored Dee Gordon, who reached base on an inning-opening double. The Dodgers also got a solo home run from catcher A.J. Ellis earlier in the game. Rivera, 33, is batting .286 with 28 runs batted in.

Wed Aug 24 201117:26Juan Rivera homers, knocks in three runs
Juan Rivera contributed a two-run homer and an RBI double in the Dodgers' 9-4 defeat of the Cardinals on Wednesday.
Rivera is hitting .322 with three homers and 22 RBI in 115 at-bats for the Dodgers. James Loney has heated up as well, so Rivera probably won't start adding a bunch of starts at first base against right-handers. Still, the Dodgers will likely find room for him at least half of the time going forward.

Wed Aug 10 201118:55Juan Rivera knocks in four for Dodgers
Juan Rivera went 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBI in a losing cause Wewdnesday against the Phillies.
Playing primarily against lefties, Rivera has hit .338 with two homers and 13 RBI in 71 at-bats for the Dodgers. There's still not much reason for Don Mattingly to begin penciling him in against righties, but it might happen if Rivera can stay hot.

Sat Jul 16 201101:00Juan Rivera homers for in Dodgers debut
Juan Rivera went 2-for-4 and homered Friday in his debut for the Dodgers.
Rivera will be a fixture against left-handers for the Dodgers, though whether he starts in left field or first base may be determined on a day-to-day basis. He doesn't stand to play against righties unless Tony Gwynn Jr. goes into an extended slump.

Tue Jul 12 201114:13Dodgers acquire OF Rivera from the Blue Jays
Dodgers acquired OF Juan Rivera from the Blue Jays for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
The Dodgers also acquired cash in the deal. The Jays took on Rivera's $5.25 million salary this offseason in order to unload Vernon Wells' bloated contract on the Angels. Toronto DFA'd Rivera last week. The 33-year-old outfielder has batted just .176 since June 16 and is hitting only .243 on the year with a .666 OPS. It also doesn't help that he's been a butcher in the outfield. He could use a change of scenery. With the Dodgers, expect him to be used against left-handed pitchers, a platoon role he should acclimate well to.

Sun Jul 3 201116:40Jays planning on trading DFA's OF Rivera
John Lott of the National Post reports that the Blue Jays plan to trade DFA'd OF Juan Rivera.
Lott adds that the Jays have already received several inquires, so it sounds like Rivera will get dealt in the coming days. The 33-year-old outfielder has batted just .176 since June 16, and could do for a change of scenery. Look for an outfielder needy team like Boston to be among those interested.

Sat Jun 25 201122:06Rivera hits three-run shot, Jays beat Cards
Juan Rivera clubbed a three-run homer in Saturday's 6-3 victory over the Cardinals.
The Jays have now won two straight in St. Louis and will try for a three-game sweep on Sunday afternoon. Rivera has struggled this season and hasn't been getting the most consistent playing time, but his three-run shot on Saturday was plenty meaningful. The veteran has a .685 OPS on the year.

Wed Jun 15 201122:11Juan Rivera leads Jays past Orioles
Juan Rivera went 3-for-4 with a double and solo home run in Toronto's 4-1 victory over the Orioles on Wednesday.
Rivera's fifth home run of the season came off of Jake Arrieta in the sixth inning. Now batting .254 with 24 RBI on the season, Rivera should remain a great AL-only league option going forward.

Thu May 19 201121:33Juan Rivera hits one over the boards
Juan Rivera was one of the Blue Jays' offensive stars Thursday, hitting a solo blast and scoring on J.P. Arencibia's bomb in a win over the Rays.
He also drew a walk. Rivera entered the night on a 0-for-12 skid at the plate, and he's upped his average to a still-ugly .214 after tonight's showing. He remains a sketchy play, even in single-league formats.

Wed Apr 27 201123:20Rivera homers in loss to Texas
Juan Rivera went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Toronto's loss to the Rangers on Wednesday.
Both the home run and multi-RBI effort were his second in three games. Still hitting just .210 after a very rough start to the season, Rivera has quietly hit safely in six straight games, and finally looks ready to contribute in his new home north of the border.

Wed Apr 20 201120:10Rivera will continue to see diminished PT
The struggling Juan Rivera will continue to see limited action until he can snap out of his slump.
"The expectation of playing every day coming out of spring training was there and he was our DH," Blue Jays manager John Farrell said. "Yet every player knows that there is going to be opportunity, but production and performance begin to factor in." Rivera, who is batting only .103, will see some starts in the outfield when Travis Snider and Jose Bautista need a day off and also see the occasional start at DH.

Wed Apr 13 201113:54Rivera back in Wednesday's lineup
Juan Rivera is back in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners.
The struggling Rivera was held out of the lineup over the past two days in order to work on his timing at the plate. He's batting .133 (4-for-30) over his first nine games this season.

Mon Apr 11 201121:43Rivera out of Monday's lineup
Juan Rivera is out of Monday's lineup against the Mariners.
Rivera, who is off to a dreadful 4-for-30 (.133) start, took some early batting practice to work on his timing at the plate. He'll likely return to the lineup Tuesday. Edwin Encarnacion is the designated hitter Monday while Jayson Nix plays third base.

Sun Apr 10 201118:45Jays' Rivera now 4-for-30
Juan Rivera went 0-for-4 on Sunday, leaving him 4-for-30 with no RBI this season.
Besides the poor hitting, what also doesn't bode well for Rivera is that Edwin Encarnacion has been a mess defensively at third. If the Jays decide they can't use Encarnacion at the hot corner, Rivera could lose most of his playing time.
