Hughes' immune system has taken a beating lately, as he previously fell ill last week, forcing him to skip a scheduled start. With the Twins eliminated from postseason contention earlier this weekend, the team will allow the right-hander to recover from the illness and get an early start on his offseason.

Hughes (illness) will be available out of the bullpen Wednesday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Hughes was scratched from a scheduled start Monday due to an illness, but it appears the issue is now behind him. However, it seems as though he will now pitch out of the bullpen instead of being a member of the rotation.

Hughes (illness) played catch Tuesday afternoon, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. He could be available out of the bullpen Wednesday and may start one of the final two games of the season.

It's not clear when he'll pitch next, but if healthy he'll likely start Saturday or Sunday against Kansas City. Minnesota's rotation is in flux after Tuesday's rainout.
