Sat Feb 22 201410:51Soto (foot) will undergo surgery on Saturday
Anthony Andro on FOX Sports Southwest reports that Geovany Soto (foot) will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left foot on Saturday.
The veteran backstop is expected to miss three weeks before resuming baseball activities, and is still expected to be ready for Opening Day. His draft stock shouldn't be impacted by the injury, and he still represents a nice late-round power option in two-catcher formats.

Fri Feb 21 201411:31Geovany Soto (Achilles) to see specialist
Geovany Soto (Achilles) will fly back to Dallas to visit a specialist.
Soto isn't worried, though, as he said he'd be able to play if it were the regular season. Assuming the specialist doesn't find anything with Soto's Achilles to be concerned about, the catcher figures to resume regular workouts sometime next week.

Thu Feb 20 201417:53Soto limited due to Achilles soreness
Geovany Soto is limited with his running due to soreness in his left Achilles tendon.
Soto said he can do everything else, including catch pitchers and squat behind the plate, so it's not a major concern. "If this was the regular season, it would be nothing," said Soto. The 31-year-old isn't expected to catch in the team's instrasquad game on Monday, but he should be ready to go soon enough.

Wed Nov 6 201312:04Rangers say Soto will be primary catcher
The Rangers announced on Tuesday that Geovany Soto would be the club's primary catcher in 2014.
Texas re-signed Soto to a one-year, $3.05 million contract on Tuesday afternoon. "We signed him with the expectation that he will be our regular, our primary catcher in 2014," general manager Jon Daniels said. "I think we've got a lot of Rangers pitchers who are going to be very happy about that." Daniels hedged his comments a bit, saying Texas was still looking for catching help. The Rangers are known to be in pursuit of free agent catcher Brian McCann.

Tue Nov 5 201315:51Rangers re-up Soto to one-year, $3.05MM deal
Rangers re-signed C Geovany Soto to a one-year, $3.05 million contract.
The deal, which includes incentives, guarantees Soto $300,000 more in base pay than he accepted to re-sign last winter. Soto played sporadically as A.J. Pierzynski's backup in 2013, batting .245 with a .794 OPS against primarily left-handed pitching. NBC Sports' Matthew Pouliot tabbed Soto as the 91st-best free agent on the market.

Mon Jul 29 201323:23Geovany Soto hits walkoff homer for Rangers
Geovany Soto hit a walkoff homer off Ernesto Frieri in the ninth as the Angels topped the Rangers 4-3 on Monday.
Soto's homer came after A.J. Pierzynski tied the game with his own solo blast earlier in the frame. Pierzynski was the DH tonight as Soto got his fourth start since the All-Star break. He's homered in three of his last 10 starts, but that's almost a six-week span from June 20 until tonight. He's batting .210 with five homers and 11 RBI for the season.

Thu Jun 20 201318:13Geovany Soto goes deep Thursday
Geovany Soto belted a solo homer in Thursday's win over the Athletics.
Soto was giving A.J. Pierzynski a breather during the day game, and he responded by getting the Rangers on the board with a solo shot in the fifth. Pierzynski pinch-hit for him later in the game and singled. Soto has gone deep three times over 76 at-bats this season but is hitting just .197.

Fri May 17 201323:20Geovany Soto homers for second straight game
Geovany Soto homered for the second consecutive game, but that was the entirety of the Rangers offensive attack in Friday's loss to the Tigers.
Soto finished the evening 1-for-3. He's still hitting a horrifying .185/.267/.333 through his first 54 at-bats on the season, but has at least picked up the production some in recent days while being counted on to fill in for the injured A.J. Pierzynski. He remains a non-factor in fantasy leagues.

Sun Dec 9 201213:42Rangers still want a catcher
Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said the team is still interested in adding a catcher.
The Rangers would be OK with Geovany Soto as their starter next season, but they wouldn't mind adding an upgrade. They've previously been linked to the Blue Jays and their catching surplus, though there's been no indication that they've had trade talks with them.

Mon Dec 3 201219:04Geovany Soto signing becomes official
Rangers re-signed C Geovany Soto to a one-year, $2.75 million contract.
If he hits all of his incentives, the deal could be worth $3 million. Soto hit a disappointing .198/.270/.343 in 2012, but the Rangers were pleased with his work behind the plate down the stretch. He could start for them in 2013 if they don't sign another catcher.

According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, Geovany Soto's new one-year contract is worth around $3 million.
The Rangers non-tendered Soto late last month but were able to work out a new agreement rather quickly. He could start at catcher in 2013 for Texas if free agent slugger Mike Napoli signs on with a new organization.

Fri Nov 30 201223:57Rangers non-tender Geovany Soto
Rangers non-tendered C Geovany Soto.
Soto and the Rangers tried to work out a deal before the deadline, but were unable to get it done. He hit a disappointing .198/.270/.343 in 2012, but shouldn't have a problem generating interest on the open market.

Fri Nov 30 201217:06Rangers now trying to sign C Soto
T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports that the Rangers are now trying to work out a contract with Geovany Soto before Friday's 11:59 p.m. ET non-tender deadline.
Soto earned $4.3 million this past season while hitting just .198/.270/.343 and is arbitration-eligible for the final time this winter. He'll be non-tendered if the two sides can't work out a new deal in the next few hours.

Mon Nov 12 201213:37Rangers expected to non-tender Geovany Soto
Rival executives told Buster Olney of ESPN.com that they don't expect the Rangers to tender Geovany Soto a contract.
It's no surprise, as Soto will get a raise in his final year of arbitration after making $4.3 million this season. The 29-year-old hit 11 homers but batted a paltry .198/.270/.343 this season for the Cubs and Rangers. It's not a given that he'll find a team willing to give him a starting job.

Sun Sep 16 201213:07Geovany Soto to catch Darvish
Rangers manager Ron Washington said Geovany Soto will be Yu Darvish's personal catcher for the rest of the season.
Darvish has a 2.32 ERA in his last six starts with Soto behind the dish. "They've been on the same page," Washington said. "I just want to keep that mojo working." Soto is expected to share the catching duties down the stretch with Mike Napoli, though Washington said he hasn't decided on anything other than the Soto/Darvish pairing.

Tue Jul 31 201210:34Rangers finalize trade for C Geovany Soto
Rangers acquired C Geovany Soto and cash considerations from the Cubs for RHP Jacob Brigham and a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Soto will push Yorvit Torrealba aside as the backup catcher in Texas. While the 29-year-old has really struggled at the plate this season, he has the reputation as a strong defender and knows how to draw a walk. Soto is under team control for 2013, so he offers an interesting alternative if Mike Napoli tests the free agent waters and winds up elsewhere. His fantasy value will be pretty limited outside of deeper AL-only leagues for now, though.

The Mets have spoken with the Cubs recently about Geovany Soto, but a deal is not likely, according to the New York Daily News.
New York wants a veteran compliment to add to Josh Thole, but they don't appear eager to give up much to acquire one. The 29-year-old Soto is batting just .195 this year.

Sat Jun 23 201201:26Geovany Soto homers in loss
Geovany Soto went 2-for-4 and homered for the Cubs' lone run Friday against the Diamondbacks.
Soto was struggling mightily before getting hurt last month, but he's 4-for-12 with two homers in three games since returning. It'd provide the Cubs with a nice little lift if he could hit .250 or so with his usual power.
