Wed Jul 25 201216:47Alfonso Soriano drawing bit of trade interest
According to FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi, at least one team has expressed interest in Alfonso Soriano.
Soriano has a .918 OPS and 19 home runs in 70 games since May 1 and there aren't many power-hitting outfielders being made available this summer. So it's feasible that the Cubs will be able to find a trade partner. But they'll probably have to eat most of the nearly $42 million remaining on the 36-year-old's current deal.

Mon Jul 23 201222:07Alfonso Soriano drives in a pair
Alfonso Soriano provided the offense for the Cubs Monday, notching a pair of RBI doubles in a win over the Pirates.
He drove in Starlin Castro both times in the 2-0 win. Soriano was terrible in April but has been terrific since then and is now batting .271/.322/.494 with 18 homers and 56 RBI this season. The Cubs might be willing to find a trade partner for him this month.

Fri Jul 13 201221:05Alfonso Soriano racks up two homers, five RBI
Alfonso Soriano homered twice, doubled twice and drove in five runs Friday in the Cubs' 8-1 defeat of the Diamondbacks.
Soriano is the eighth player this year to rack up at least 12 total bases in a game, but the first to do it in a game in which he batted just four times. Soriano had been hitting .185 with no homers in 27 at-bats this month, so it seems like the All-Star break did him some good.

Mon Jul 9 201209:50Cubs to monitor Soriano in second half
Cubs manager Dale Sveum said he plans on giving Alfonso Soriano scheduled days off in the second half.
"His presence in the lineup -- we know he's streaky -- but his presence brings a lot," Sveum said. "He's played pretty dang good defense out there. I've got to find a few more spots to give him days off."

Sat Jun 9 201217:13Soriano blasts 12th homer in loss to Twins
Alfonso Soriano went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Saturday's loss to the Twins.
The power assault continues. Soriano now has 12 home runs this season, all of them since May 15. Nobody has more during the same time span. The Cubs will still have to pay the freight, but he's certainly improving his trade value.

Sat Jun 9 201212:03Cubs willing to eat majority of Soriano deal
According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Cubs are willing to absorb a ''huge portion'' of Alfonso Soriano's contract if moved prior to July's trade deadline.
Whether they would get anything of value in return remains to be seen. Soriano is owed over $40 million through the 2014 season. He is expected to waive his no-trade clause if moved to a contender, though there's yet to be any confirmed interest around the league.

Fri Jun 8 201223:57Soriano homers twice in loss
Alfonso Soriano homered twice in Friday night's extra-innings loss to the Twins.
Soriano also had a single and finished the game with three total RBI. He's on a bit of an offensive tear and is now sporting a decent .809 OPS with 11 dingers and 37 RBI.

Wed Jun 6 201200:04Soriano's homer powers Cubs over Brewers
Alfonso Soriano smashed a three-run homer off of Yovani Gallardo, helping to lead the Cubs to a 10-0 rout over the Brewers on Tuesday.
The constant subject of ever-present trade speculation, Soriano finished the night 1-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and three RBI. While he's now a liability defensively and provides very little speed, there's no doubt that Soriano provides solid and consistent run production. He's now hitting .263 with nine homers and 34 RBI on the season, with all nine of his homers coming in his past 20 games.

Sun Jun 3 201223:58Soriano open to being traded to a contender
Alfonso Soriano is open to being traded to a contender.
"I'm 36 years old, so, yeah, I would like to have the opportunity to ... if they want to trade me, I hope it is to a team that's a contender because it's about trying to go for that ring," Soriano said Sunday. "You want to feel good, feel like maybe you got a chance for that if we don't have a chance here. But like I said, it depends on them. I don't control the situation." Soriano isn't entirely correct in that the Cubs have very little control over the situation. They would love to trade him, but the veteran outfielder is owed over $40 million through the end of the 2014 season. Chicago would have to eat a significant portion of that money and accept little value in return to move him.

Alfonso Soriano launched a three-run homer in the ninth inning Friday against the Giants.
Unfortunately, the Cubs were down by four at the time and still ended up losing. Still, it was another impressive blast for Soriano, his eighth in his last 16 games.

Mon May 28 201217:52Soriano helps Cubs snap 12-game skid
Alfonso Soriano went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and three RBI to lead the Cubs to an 11-7 win over the Padres on Monday.
It snapped the Cubs' 12-game losing streak. Darwin Barney, Ian Stewart and Starlin Castro also homered for the Cubs with the wind blowing out at Wrigley Field today. The Padres managed four homers as well, with Chase Headley hitting two. Soriano has six homers in his last 13 games after going his first 30 without one.

Sat May 19 201223:37Soriano still experiencing severe knee pain
Alfonso Soriano admitted Saturday that recurring pain in his left knee may ultimately force him to undergo a second surgery.
He went under the knife for the first time in 2009 and apparently the discomfort has yet to subside. "I have tremendous respect for what Soriano's doing out there in left field for us this year and the way he's worked and what he's put in knowing what his body's gone through," recently-retired Kerry Wood said. The Cubs medical staff doesn't view surgery in-season as an option at this point, but Soriano thinks it's coming eventually. "Maybe after the season," he said. "See how far I can go and after the season check it again, see what they can find in the knee. It's not fun being in pain." Soriano has heated up recently -- including a 3-for-4 night with a homer Saturday against the White Sox -- and is now batting .269/.301/.396 on the year. Soriano had zero home runs before Tuesday but has blasted three in his last five games.

Wed May 16 201223:32Soriano homers for second straight night
Alfonso Soriano homered for the second straight game in Wednesday's loss to the Phillies.
Soriano, of course, had zero home runs before Tuesday. He took Kyle Kendrick deep for a two-run shot in the fourth. Those would prove to be the Cubbies' only two runs of the night. Soriano will bring a Soriano-esque .260/.295/.366 triple slash into play on Thursday.

Wed May 9 201211:28Soriano getting day off with sore knee
Updating a previous item, Alfonso Soriano is getting the day off Wednesday due to a sore knee.
Cubs manager Dale Sveum isn't sure which knee it is, but it sounds like a day-to-day situation either way. Adrian Cardenas will make the start in left field Wednesday.

Fri May 4 201217:55Alfonso Soriano goes 3-for-3, doubles twice
Alfonso Soriano went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI against the Dodgers on Friday.
Soriano is still without a homer in 87 at-bats this season after hitting 26 a year ago. He does, however, have his average up to .276 now. The Cubs figure to give him most of the month of May to start producing before they think about reducing his role.

Tue Apr 10 201223:28Soriano drives in two in loss
Alfonso Soriano went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI as the Cubs loss to the Brewers on Tuesday.
Soriano had a two-run single to get the Cubs on the board in the third inning. He's hitting a blistering .353 on the young season and has the potential to drive in plenty of runs hitting cleanup in the Cubs batting order. He still strikes out too much and doesn't run any more, but can still be a valuable fantasy asset.

Sun Mar 25 201219:34Soriano blasts fifth home run of spring
Alfonso Soriano went 1-for-3 with a home run, run scored and three RBI in Sunday's game against the Indians.
The home run was Soriano's fifth of the spring, while he's now hitting .351 with five homers, 11 RBI, and a 1.245 OPS in 34 at-bats. He's likely to hit somewhere in the middle of the Cubs order this season.
