Chris Stewart went 1-for-3 with an RBI double in Friday's loss to the Red Sox.
Stewart continues to serve as the primary backstop for the Yankees, and is now hitting .243/.316/.312 with 15 RBI on the season. With the lack of offensive production that they've gotten from the position, Gary Sanchez could become an option for a call-up during the second half of the season.

It sounds like the Yankees will probably keep Francisco Cervelli and Stewart as their catchers, with Austin Romine off to Triple-A for a while. The light-hitting Stewart finished at .241/.292/.319 with no homers in 141 at-bats as Russell Martin's backup last year.

Wed Apr 4 201215:38Yankees acquire C Stewart from Giants
Yankees acquired C Chris Stewart from the Giants for RHP George Kontos.
Here's a surprise. Stewart will begin the season on the Yankees' Opening Day roster while Francisco Cervelli will head down to Triple-A. The 30-year batted just 204/.283/.309 over 183 plate appearances with the Giants last season, so it's a little surprising to see the Yankees give up something of value for him.

Thu May 26 201114:23Giants call up Chris Stewart from Triple-A
Giants purchased the contract of C Chris Stewart from Triple-A Fresno.
Sadly, this is the best they can do. Stewart, 29, owns an underwhelming .256/.328/.360 batting line over parts of 10 seasons in the minor leagues and has appeared in 26 major league games between the White Sox, Yankees, Rangers and Padres. Hopefully he'll just be a placeholder until the Giants can acquire a catcher.
