Tue Dec 7 2010 | 17:48 | Report: Dodgers sign Tony Gwynn Jr |
According to Tom Krasovic of AOL Fanhouse, the Dodgers have signed outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. |
No word on the exact terms, but it is a one-year major league deal. Gwynn, 28, was non-tendered by the Padres last week after batting .204/.304/.287 with three home runs, 20 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 21 attempts this past season. He isn't a good enough hitter to play everyday, but his solid defense and baserunning ability makes him an ideal fourth outfielder. |

Wed Dec 1 2010 | 14:57 | Rays non-tender outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. |
Padres non-tendered OF Tony Gwynn Jr. |
Gwynn posted poor offensive numbers in 2010 and the Padres already have a crowded outfield depth chart heading into 2011. He's only 28 and does boast some speed, so perhaps he'll find a new job quickly. |

Wed Dec 1 2010 | 13:13 | Padres likely to non-tender Gwynn Jr. |
The Padres are expected to non-tender Tony Gwynn Jr. |
Gwynn hit just .204/.304/.287 this past season and the Padres don't want to cough up the $800,000 or so that it will take to keep him around. Only 28, he should draw some interest on the free agent market. |

Sun Nov 14 2010 | 09:57 | Padres likely to non-tender two outfielders |
With the acquisition of Cameron Maybin, the San Diego Union-Tribune's Bill Center expects the Padres to non-tender at least two of their arbitration-eligible outfielders. |
The list includes Ryan Ludwick, Tony Gwynn, Chris Denorfia and Scott Hairston. Ludwick is almost certainly safe, so it will come down to the other three. Gwynn would seem to be the most likely of the three to be let go, as his primary value lies in his defense in center, which won't really be needed now with Maybin around. Gwynn had a woeful batting line of .204/.304/.287 in 2010. |

Thu Sep 23 2010 | 20:37 | Gwynn in starting lineup Thursday |
Tony Gwynn Jr. is in the starting lineup Thursday for the first time since he injured the hamate bone in his right hand on August 18. |
Gwynn has been limited to pinch-hitting, pinch-running and defensive replacement duties since being activated from the disabled list on September 13. It's an incredible turnaround, considering that he just underwent surgery on August 20. |
