Tue Mar 10 201514:03Cliff Lee: (Elbow) Has Tendon Tear, Will Attempt To Pitch Anyway
Lee (elbow) was diagnosed with a tear in the flexor tendon in his throwing elbow, Sports Illustrated reports.
The Phillies are apparently "not terribly optimistic" about the situation, but the 36-year-old Lee will attempt to pitch through the injury. Whether that's a realistic option remains to be seen, but if Lee is experiencing continue discomfort, he'll likely need to undergo surgery, which would entail a six-to-eight month recovery period. Lee speculated that if surgery is necessary, it could possibly end his career.

Lee said his elbow injury could end his career if he needs to undergo surgery, CSN Philadelphia reports.
Lee would miss the 2015 season if surgery is required on his left elbow. He is awaiting a review of his MRI by Dr. James Andrews. More news regarding Lee should be coming soon as he was planning to test out his arm by throwing Monday or Tuesday.

Lee (elbow) had a MRI which team doctor Michael Ciccotti said revealed very mild inflammation, the Philadelphia Daily News reports. "According to Dr. Ciccotti, there's a 1-to-2-millimeter area in length that was of some issue," GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said. "And then the width is 1 centimeter or something like that. It's very, very small, a very pinpointed area. And, again, there's very little edema or swelling or fluid in that area. But any time it's the elbow, you've got to be concerned about it."
Lee's MRI will be sent to orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews for review as well. The soreness Lee is feeling is in the flexor pronator, which is the same area that bothered him last season. He is expected to start throwing again early this week to test the elbow. If Lee is sidelined into the regular season it creates an opportunity for Kevin Slowey or Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez to earn a rotation spot this spring.
Sun Mar 8 201511:41Cliff Lee: Suffers Sore Elbow
Lee has a flexor pronator injury and will be tested in the next few days, Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports.
Lee suffered a flexor pronator injury in 2014 where he opted to rest rather than go under the knife, so a surgery and lengthy recovery time could be very possible this time around. The risk with Lee was already off the charts after the 36-year-old showed depressed fastball velocity earlier this spring. It's not like this will stop the Phillies from contending, but there was a good chance they were planning to trade him this season to rebuild their youth pipeline.
Thu Mar 5 201520:32Lee (elbow) two innings in spring training debut Thursday
Lee (elbow) went two innings in his spring training debut Thursday. He allowed a couple of singles and threw 16 of his 22 pitches for strikes.
Lee was making his first start since July 31 when he left that game with pain in his left elbow. He was working around 87-88 mph with his fastball Thursday, which is down from his typical velocity, but it is early in camp. He needs time to build up arm strength. The good news is that Lee said his elbow has felt normal thus far this spring. The Phillies are hoping to trade him at some point this season.

Lee (elbow) is scheduled to make his first start of spring training on Thursday against the Astros, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Lee, who will throw his second live batting practice of the spring on Saturday, is on schedule with the rest of the Phillies' starters. He is expected to pitch two innings Thursday.

Lee (elbow) threw to hitters Wednesday for the first time since July 31, CSN Philly reports. "It felt good, felt normal, no complaints," Lee said.
Lee threw mostly fastballs during eight minutes of live batting practice. He will likely throw to hitters again this weekend. While Grapefruit League games begin next week, Lee isn't expected to make his first start until the second week as the Phillies do not want to push him too hard early on.

Lee (elbow) is on a slightly different schedule than the other pitchers this spring, CSN Philly reports.
Lee will throw every third day and not every other day like the rest of the pitchers during the early part of camp. Lee said he feels fine and that the modified schedule is just to play it safe. He was limited to just 13 starts last season due to a strained left elbow.

Lee was able to take part in a full bullpen session Thursday and said his elbow feels good, CSN Philly reports. "I feel good," he said. "It feels like a normal spring so far. I started throwing a lot earlier this year so I feel like I'm ahead of where I'd normally be this time of year, but it's different for me since I missed the last two months of the season."
Lee, who was limited to just 13 starts last season because of a strained flexor pronator tendon in his left elbow, has thrown off a mound about 15 times already this offseason. He said he did feel a sensation in his elbow when he started throwing, but it gradually faded away. He is a high risk, high reward pick in drafts this spring because the elbow injury could resurface. He's also a candidate to be traded if he proves he is healthy in the early part of the season.
Wed Feb 18 201515:41Lee (elbow) had recent bout with bronchitis
Lee (elbow) had a recent bout with bronchitis, which briefly set back his throwing program, Ryan Lawrence of Philadelphia Daily News reports.
Lee was plagued by injuries throughout the 2014 season, starting just 13 games in total. He enters 2015 as the Phillies' no. 2 starter, but the veteran will need to play some catch up heading into the campaign.

GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said Lee (elbow) has thrown off a mound three or four times this month and is on track to be ready for spring training, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Amaro said the Phillies will send a staff member to Arkansas to watch Lee throw in the coming days. The Phillies are hoping Lee will prove he is healthy early next season in order to move him prior to the trade deadline. Lee made just 13 starts last season due to a flexor-pronator tendon strain in his elbow.

Lee (elbow) is expected to throw off a mound for the first time in the next two weeks, the Philadelphia Daily News reports.
The move to throwing off a mound is a big step because of the extra stress it places on the elbow. Lee is rehabbing a flexor-pronator tendon strain in his elbow that limited him to just 13 starts last season.
Mon Dec 8 201421:06Cliff Lee: (Elbow) Throwing Program In Progress
Lee (elbow) has begun a throwing program, MLB.com's Todd Zolecki reports.
GM Ruben Amaro said Lee is progressing well in his throwing program, and he expects him to throw from a mound sometime in January. Assuming that happens, Lee should be ready for the beginning of spring training. The Phillies would be open to trading Lee, but he is owed at least $37.5 million and is coming off the elbow injury, so the Phillies will almost certainly hold onto him at least until July.

Lee (elbow) has received clearance to begin his offseason throwing program, CSN Philly reports.
Lee was examined by the Phillies' team doctor last week. He will begin throwing next week and expects to be ready for the start of spring training.
Tue Nov 11 201414:45Cliff Lee: (Elbow) Close To Beginning Throwing Program
Lee (elbow) is close to beginning a throwing program, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
November had been the target for Lee to resume throwing for some time, but his agent, Darek Braunecker, indicated that the lefty is still on track to start up his program this month. An MRI in October showed that the flexor tendon in Lee's elbow is healing well, and so long as he doesn't have any hiccups in the coming months, Lee should be ready for spring training. The 36-year-old Lee posted a 8.0 K/9 in 13 starts in 2014, his lowest mark since 2010, while his swinging-strike rate (7.8%) was his lowest since 2007.

The Phillies activated Lee (elbow) from the 60-day disabled list on Thursday.
It is a procedural move to put Lee back on the 40-man roster. The Phillies hope Lee, who missed time with a flexor-pronator tendon strain this season, will be ready for the start of spring training.

Lee's (elbow) flexor tendon was shown to be healing well in an MRI and he is expected to be ready for spring training, MLB.con's Todd Zolecki reports.
You can never be quite comfortable when an older pitcher like Lee has elbow issues, yet the Phillies are confident enough in his recovery to begin his throwing program in November. The 35-year-old Lee had a weak year by his standards, with his highest ERA and WHIP since 2007. His 2.96 FIP from 2014 implies he was a little unlucky, but he still carries a large risk of being in decline.

Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. expressed confidence that Lee (elbow) will be ready to contribute at the start of next season, CSNPhilly.com reports.
Lee was examined by a team doctor Monday, and while Amaro did not go into detail, he said that the left-hander's condition is "improved." A flexor-pronator tendon strain forced Lee out of action in May and a recurrence of the injury in late July in turn ended his 2014 campaign, but several top orthopedists have examined Lee and determined he will not need surgery. He's expected to resume a throwing program in November, and the expectation is that he'll be ready for Day 1 of spring training if all goes well.
Mon Sep 1 201418:35Lee (elbow) transferred to 60-day DL on Monday
Lee (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day DL on Monday, Stephen Gross of The Morning Call reports.
The move to the 60-day DL will open up space on the 40-man roster for the Phillies, who are expected to promote a slew of players Tuesday. Though the Phillies haven't explicitly said so, Lee can almost certainly be ruled out for a return this season due to a recurrence of a left flexor pronator strain.
Thu Aug 7 201406:13Lee will not require surgery on strained left elbow
Lee will not require surgery on his strained left elbow, the Phillies' official site reports.
Lee visited orthopedist David Altchek in New York on Wednesday who said surgery is not required. Lee then went to the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia for a platelet-rich plasma injection in his elbow. The Phillies hope to have him start a throwing program in October or November. GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said he is hopeful Lee will be ready to pitch by the start of spring training.
