Sun Apr 10 201604:29RHP Rubby De La Rosa made first relief since Sept
RHP Rubby De La Rosa made his first relief since Sept. 27, 2014, when he pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning on Saturday, striking out the last two batters on 94 mph and 97 mph fastballs. It was his between-starts work day, and manager Chip Hale said it also enabled the Diamondbacks to save a bullpen inning from another reliever. "We were going to use him for an inning and let him throw after the game," Hale said. "It was a positive experience for him out there. Tempo was better. He just threw his pitches with conviction, which is important. De La Rosa, the Diamondbacks' No. 4 starter, will make his next scheduled start on Wednesday. He gave up six hits and seven runs (six earned) in his first start on Thursday, a 14-6 loss to the Cubs, and spoke to family friend Pedro Martinez on Friday night.

RHP Rubby De La Rosa could not hold leads of 3-0, 4-2 and 6-4 in his first start of the season, leaving in the fourth inning after giving up seven runs (six earned), six hits and three walks. He threw strikes on 40 of 70 pitches. "The command wasn't there," Arizona manager Chip Hale said. "It is the same story we have had with our starters. Getting the ball up to good hitters. It is just not going to work, in this ballpark especially. There is not a whole lot of forgiveness."

RHP Rubby De La Rosa signed a one-year, $2.35 million contract with the Diamondbacks on Friday to avoid arbitration. De La Rosa was 14-9 with a 4.67 ERA.

De La Rosa (14-9) struggled on Friday, allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits and four walks across three innings in a loss to the Astros.
Considering the Astros scored 21 runs, the four earned doesn't look too bad. The weaknesses for De La Rosa have been homers and walks this year and that bit him again on Friday. In 32 starts this season, De La Rosa has allowed 32 home runs and 63 walks. He'll be an interesting pitcher going into next seasons and if he can clean up his control and the homers, De La Rosa would become must own in nearly every format.

De La Rosa (14-8) allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks across 5.2 innings in a win over the Padres on Friday. He struck out just two.
What made De La Rosa so appealing early in the season were his impressive strikeout totals, but that's disappeared as of late. Since the beginning of July, De La Rosa has 49 strikeouts in 15 starts. Before that, he recorded 94 strikeouts in his first 16 starts. It's tough to see why this is the case, but results have not changed much despite the strange strikeout trends. If he can find some consistency with the strikeout form he had in the first three months, De La Rosa could become must own next season.

De La Rosa will have his next start pushed back to Friday against the Padres, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
De La Rosa was scheduled to take the hill Wednesday against the Dodgers, but because of his immense struggles against his former team this season (0-3, 11.21 ERA, 1.86 WHIP in four starts), Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale will tinker the rotation. Chase Anderson is now in line to make Wednesday's start.

De La Rosa (13-8) outdueled Madison Bumgarner on Friday, as he allowed one hit and four walks while striking out five across 5.2 scoreless innings in a 2-0 win over the Giants.
De La Rosa has been struggling as of late, as he allowed 17 runs over his four previous starts. It's been a strange season for De La Rosa, as he mixes gems with duds seemingly week-by-week. His 56 walks and 31 homers allowed are likely the main contributions to his struggles and if he cleans that up, he could be a nice fantasy asset going forward. He'll look to continue this form against the dodgers and Zack Greinke next Wednesday in his next scheduled start.
Sun Sep 13 201514:57De La Rosa may have next scheduled start skipped
De La Rosa may have his next scheduled start skipped, Jack Magruder of the Diamondbacks' official site reports.
De La Rosa was rocked for six earned runs in his last outing, but has otherwise been a staple in the rotation for most of the season. The 26-year-old has already thrown 174.1 innings this year, which is by far the most in his Major League career. If he does get skipped, it will likely be for maintenance reasons rather than performance.

De La Rosa (12-8) was rocked for six runs on nine hits while lasting just two innings in Saturday's 9-5 loss to the Dodgers.
As has been the case in most of De La Rosa's stinkers this season, the home-run ball once again proved problematic, as the righty surrendered solo shots to Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez before getting the early yank. The hitter-friendly confines of Chase Field have been particularly troublesome this season for De La Rosa, who has a 4.99 ERA at home compared to a 4.53 mark on the road. He could be in line for a bounce back in his next scheduled start Friday in San Francisco, a park that generally plays friendlier for pitchers.

De La Rosa fell to 12-7 Sunday despite a decent performance against the Cubs in which he allowed three runs on five hits and two walks in five innings, while striking out six.
De La Rosa left two on base only to see the bullpen allow them both to score on a grand slam two batters later. He has posted a decent 3.48 ERA in the second half, but a FIP and xFIP over 4.50 suggest there is some luck involved. De La Rosa's biggest problem all season has been allowing home runs, which he did again on Sunday. His 29 home runs allowed is the second highest in baseball and his 1.51 HR/9 is the ninth worst mark among qualified pitchers. He will need to learn to keep the ball in the park more effectively to succeed long-term for the D-backs.

De La Rosa earned his 12th win with a quality start Tuesday against Colorado, as he allowed three runs on six hits and no walks over six innings. He struck out three.
De La Rosa has gotten five runs of support or more in 12 of his 27 starts now, and that's how he's compiled a 12-6 record with his 4.46 ERA. But don't ignore him because of his run support -- De La Rosa has a 3.38 ERA and 64 strikeouts against 31 walks over his last 15 starts, and he looks much more acclimated to the show in the second half this year.

De La Rosa (11-6) struggled on Thursday, striking out four batters while allowing five runs on five hits and four walks over five innings in a loss to the Cardinals.
De La Rosa was very good over his previous seven starts, but took a step back here with this loss. The big problem are the home runs, as he has allowed 27 in 25 starts. The walks have also been an issue, as he has walked 21 batters over his last eight starts. He'll probably allow a couple more home runs and walks in his next start at Coors Field on Tuesday.

De La Rosa (11-5) went seven innings while striking out six and surrendering two runs on seven hits and a walk in a win over the Reds.
De La Rosa has been a completely different pitcher of late. After averaging a solid 8.08 K/9 in his first 18 starts, De La Rosa has seen a huge decrease in his past seven starts, where he has dropped down to 5.09 K/9. Curiously, he's seen a similarly large drop in his ERA. After posting a 5.06 ERA in his first 18 starts, he's had a 2.54 ERA over his last seven starts. Surprisingly, De La Rosa has gone from a player potential owners picked up for the strikeouts, knowing that his ERA could blow up at any moment, to a dependable ERA man with unsavory strikeout totals.

De La Rosa allowed one run on seven hits and four walks while striking out three over seven innings, but received no decision Sunday against the Braves.
De La Rosa was pitching well before getting into trouble in the fifth inning, as he loaded the bases with one out, before allowing his lone run of the contest. This was the first quality start he's thrown over his last four road starts. He'll make his next start Friday at the Reds.

De La Rosa improved to 10-5 with a quality start Monday against Philadelphia, as he allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk. He struck out three.
De La Rosa had hitters off balance all night and induced 12 swinging strikes in just 92 pitches. De La Rosa has now won four straight decisions over five starts. Over that span, he has just 17 strikeouts against 12 walks in 33 innings -- hardly pristine, but with just 27 hits and three home runs allowed, he's doing enough to keep runs off the board (2.81 ERA).

De La Rosa (9-5) picked up the win, giving up two runs on two hits and three walks in five innings of work as the D-backs beat the Nationals 11-4.
After a rocky first inning which saw two runners score on sacrifice flies, De La Rosa settled down, at one point sitting down seven straight batters before exiting to start the sixth inning. Home runs have plagued the 26-year-old all year, but the righty managed to limit the Nationals to just one extra base hit, a double by Yunel Escobar in the first inning. Even with Wednesday's solid performance, De La Rosa is still sporting a 4.56 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with a 113:40 K:BB ratio.

De La Rosa lasted six innings Friday in a no-decision, striking out four while allowing four runs on eight hits in a 6-4 win over Houston.
De La Rosa was cruising through five scoreless innings, but conceded a three-run homer to Jason Castro and a solo home run to Carlos Correa in the sixth to knock him out of the game. Home runs have been the weakness for De La Rosa, as he has allowed 24 dingers in his 21 starts. He'll look to keep the ball in the yard in his next start against Washington on Wednesday.

De La Rosa (8-5) gave up just four hits and two walks in eight shutout innings Saturday, striking out six Brewers in the win.
De La Rosa has strung together two excellent starts coming out of the All-Star break, with just one run allowed in 15 innings. The 26-year-old is a bit lucky to have eight wins considering his 4.52 ERA, but he unquestionably deserved his last two victories. De La Rosa set a career high with 161.2 innings pitched at all levels in 2014, but he's showing no signs of slowing down at 125.1 major league innings this season. The righty will try to stay hot when he next takes the mound Friday in Houston.

De La Rosa won his seventh game Monday against Miami, allowing one run on five hits and walks, while striking out one over seven innings.
De La Rosa benefitted from four double plays in the contest on a night when he didn't have his best command. The lone run allowed by De La Rosa came on a solo home run, the 22nd he has allowed on the season. His 1.69 HR/9 mark ranks as the third worst among qualified pitchers.

De La Rosa improved to 7-5 despite five walks Monday against the Marlins, as he allowed one run on five hits and struck out one.
De La Rosa needed four double plays to scatter those 10 baserunners, as De La Rosa somehow turned a season high in walks in to one of his best starts of the year. He also served up his 22nd home run of the year, a solo shot by Derek Dietrich, and until he can figure out how to keep the ball in the ballpark, his ERA is going to keep fluctuating around 5.00 -- it's now down to 4.83 despite Monday's shaky control.
