Mon Sep 2 201322:36Carlos Ruiz leads Phils past Nationals
Carlos Ruiz had two RBI singles, including one that put the Phillies ahead in the eighth, Monday in a 3-2 victory over the Nationals.
Where might Ruiz have found this extra pep in his step of late? He hit .333 with four homers in August after entering the month with a .248 average and one homer in 157 at-bats. That he's hitting in the middle of the order now should further boost his value during September.

Tue Aug 27 201320:49Carlos Ruiz red-hot at the plate
Carlos Ruiz entered Tuesday batting .329 (26-for-79) with six doubles and four home runs July 28.
The hot streak was preceded by a .581 OPS in his first 46 games. Ruiz will be a free agent this winter and should earn himself a nice payday if he can keep hitting through the end of the season. GM Ruben Amaro wouldn't dismiss re-signing the veteran. "Chooch is playing well," Amaro said. "We'll see how things play out through the end of the year. Obviously, we have some familiarity with Chooch. He's starting to play better overall baseball."

Fri May 17 201322:11Ruiz has sacrifice fly in win over Reds
Carlos Ruiz went 1-for-3 with a sacrifice fly in Friday's 5-3 win over the Reds.
The Reds tied things up on a solo homer by Joey Votto in the top of the eighth inning, but the Phillies stormed right back with two runs thanks to a bases-loaded error by Brandon Phillips and the sacrifice fly by Ruiz. "Chooch" has been slow to get going since returning from his 25-game Adderall suspension, batting just .240/.291/.280 through 15 games. There are better options at catcher right now in shallow mixed leagues.
