The thought had been that Ruiz would return early this week, but apparently the Phillies want to keep the catcher on his rehab assignment a bit longer. Ruiz went 1-for-4 at the plate while catching seven innings Saturday in his third rehab game for High-A Clearwater.

Carlos Ruiz (concussion) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Clearwater on Thursday.
He'll play with Clearwater through the weekend before rejoining the Phillies early next week if all goes well. Ruiz has been out since late June with concussion issues, but he's been symptom-free for a while now and is ready to tests things out in game action.

Carlos Ruiz (concussion) has been cleared to resume baseball activities after his second positive IMPACT test in three days.
Ruiz hasn't played since he was hit in the helmet by a pitch on June 26. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro had previously said Ruiz will start baseball activities this weekend if Wednesay's test went well. If things continue to progress, the catcher will likely be ready to go shortly after the All-Star break.

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro said Monday that Carlos Ruiz (concussion) could return in mid-July.
Ruiz had another IMPACT test Monday, and Amaro said the test "went very good. Much improved from his last test. The plan is for him to do some more exertion exercises and then another test probably on Wednesday, and if he's cleared to go at about 100 percent then we'll start with baseball activities sometime this weekend." Amaro added that Ruiz would need to get in some rehab at-bats before returning.

Chooch will take another IMPACT test on Monday to see if he's ready to resume baseball activities. He'll be activated quickly once the symptoms subside, but until that happens there's no timetable for his return.

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro said Tuesday that Carlos Ruiz's concussion "is maybe a little more serious than we originally thought, unfortunately."
"He's had concussion issues in the past, so we have to be careful with him," the GM added. Ruiz was placed on the disabled list following a concussion suffered last Thursday, and he's yet to make any progress. The catcher has been administered IMPACT tests but hasn't passed them. "He's failing those tests," manager Ryne Sandberg said. "He still gets the dizziness and the eye sensation to brightness." There's no timetable for Ruiz's return.

In a corresponding move, Koyie Hill was recalled from Triple-A to take his place on the active roster. As long as he's able to pass his concussion protocol, he should be able to return to the Phillies at some point next week.

Carlos Ruiz went 2-for-2 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch in Tuesday's loss to the Rockies.
Ruiz continues to be an on-base machine, reaching base in all four of his plate appearances on Tuesday. His .396 on-base percentage leaves him in a tie with Victor Martinez for 10th-best in baseball. The power, though, is still absent as he has a meager .381 slugging percentage.

Carlos Ruiz closed out a great four-game series against the Dodgers by reaching base all five times up and cracking a game-winning, two-run double in the ninth off Brian Wilson in a 7-3 Thursday win.
Ruiz finished 3-for-3 with two walks, two doubles and two runs scored. The 35-year-old entered this series with an ugly .204/.328/.286 slash line, but went 7-for-14 with four walks, four doubles, one triple, one homer, five runs scored and four RBI as Philly took three of four in Los Angeles. By the way, it only took four games for Ruiz's slash line to blow up to .270/.395/.476.

Carlos Ruiz went 0-for-3 with a run scored Friday against the Rockies.
Ruiz reached base on an error by Nolan Arenado in the fifth inning and scored the only run of the evening for Philadelphia. The 35-year-old backstop owns a healthy .345 on-base percentage through 13 games, but he's hitting just .217 and has yet to drive in a run. Those in two-catcher mixed leagues can likely do better these days.

Carlos Ruiz doubled twice and scored twice in five at-bats as the Phillies lost 9-4 to the Brewers on Wednesday.
Ruiz represented a good portion of the Phillies' offense, which was quieted after a three-run first inning against Matt Garza. Ruiz pushed his average up to .231, which isn't terribly impressive, but he also pushed his on-base percentage close to .400.
