RHP Tyler Clippard was added to the Yankees' 25-man roster Monday, and he struck out two and allowed a hit during a scoreless seventh inning against the Mets. Clippard was acquired from the Diamondbacks on Sunday in exchange for RHP Vicente Campos. This is the second tour of duty with the Yankees for Clippard, who was drafted by the Yankees in 2003 and made his major league debut with the club in 2007. Clippard, who was 2-3 with a 4.30 ERA and one save in 40 games this season for the Diamondbacks, is expected to serve as a setup man in a revamped Yankees bullpen that lost RHO Aroldis Chapman and LHP Andrew Miller in trades to the Cubs and Indians, respectively. In parts of 10 big league seasons, Clippard is 44-32 with a 2.97 ERA and 54 saves in 529 games.

RHP Tyler Clippard gave up his third homer to Marlins 1B Justin Bour in four career plate appearances Friday, when Bour's seventh-inning grand slam tied the game at 5, helping the Marlins to an 8-6 victory. "Just a really bad outing, one of the worse of my career as far as execution," Clippard said. "I threw only one strike and it got hit for a home run. I tried to go with a good changeup, down and away. It certainly wasn't down and away enough." Bour has hit two Clippard changeups and one fastball for his homers.

RHP Tyler Clippard continued struggling at the worst possible time for the Mets on Saturday, when he took the loss in Game 4 of the World Series by giving up two runs, no hits and two walks while striking out none in one-third of an inning in a 5-3 loss to the Royals. The Mets led 3-2 when Clippard was called upon to open the eighth inning. He began by retiring shortstop Alcides Escobar on a comebacker but then issued walks to 2B Ben Zobrist and CF Lorenzo Cain. RHP Jeurys Familia entered and allowed Zobrist to score when 1B Eric Hosmer reached on an error by Mets 2B Daniel Murphy. Royals 3B Mike Moustakas and C Salvador Perez followed with RBI singles. Clippard now has a 6.98 ERA in his last 20 appearances dating to Sept. 6.
Sun Sep 13 201501:34Clippard will get day off Sunday
Clippard, who allowed three runs in the eighth to tie the game but picked up the win when the Mets scored twice in the ninth Saturday, will get the day off Sunday, ESPN New York reports.
Clippard has been used heavily by the Mets, pitching in four of the past five and seven of the past 11 games. Manager Terry Collins believes Clippard is tired which is why he will not be used Sunday.
Thu Sep 10 201519:10Clippard will not be available Thursday against Braves
Clippard, who pitched the last two games against the Nationals and has seen action in four of the past five contests, will not be available Thursday against the Braves, ESPN New York reports.
Jeurys Familia is also unavailable, meaning that Addison Reed might close if a save opportunity arises. Clippard should be ready to go Friday.

Clippard tossed another scoreless eighth inning, striking out two, Saturday against the Rockies.
Clippard has allowed three earned runs in 13.1 innings in 14 appearances since coming to the Mets. His 8:5 K:BB ratio leave a love to be desired, but he and Jeurys Familia have been the only two consistent performers in the Mets' bullpen. Look for manager Terry Collins to use Clippard heavily down the stretch.

Clippard picked up his first save with the Mets, pitching a scoreless ninth inning in a 5-2 victory over the Nationals.
Jeurys Familia was unavailable after throwing 44 pitches over a span of three straight days, leaving Clippard to man the ninth inning. He allowed just one hit, a single by Jason Werth, before getting Clint Robinson and Jose Lobaton to fly out to end the game. While Familia has blown three consecutive save chances, it still appears as if it's his job to lose, but Clippard could be the first in line for the closer role if Familia continues to falter.

Clippard could be a candidate to pick up a save Sunday if Jeurys Familia is unavailable, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.
Clippard hasn't pitched since Friday, whereas Familia has been used on three straight days, throwing 44 pitches over that span. The 30-year-old Clippard collected 17 saves with the Athletics before being shipped to New York, so he's certainly no stranger to the closer's role. The status would only be temporary, however, as Familia is expected to retain that job despite blowing three save chances in a row before Saturday.

Clippard, who was acquired by the Mets on Monday, will work in a setup role in front of closer Jeurys Familia, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.
Clippard proved dependable as the ninth-inning man for the Athletics in the first half of the season, producing a 2.79 ERA and 1.19 WHIP while notching 17 saves, but his ratios pale in comparison to those of Familia, who also possesses more heat on his fastball. The arrival of Clippard may put some more pressure on Familia to perform well, but the Mets don't seem particularly motivated to create a closer controversy, given that Clippard has been at his best while working the eighth inning during his last several seasons with the Nationals. For now, he'll simply be tasked with preserve leads for the Mets' stellar starting pitching staff.
